Junko floated in the ocean waters while staring at her status. Each notification took a while to comb through as the meanings behind some words had yet to be fully comprehended but it went faster than the previous times as she had already seen most Skill-related notifications quite a few times beforehand.
The water she was floating in was hot, boiling even. Yet the amount of heat she felt was minimal. The same could definitely not be said for the few crewmembers unlucky enough to still be alive and swimming in the water.
Some few-and-far-between screams echoed through the sickening silence of the boiling ocean spot.
Little Junko didn't quite have time to worry about the loud sounds though as her interest was pointed towards two of the General Skills she had obtained through her little kidnapping activity.
Up until now, she had yet to read the actual description of any of her General Skills as the names gave away their function already.
For Junko, it went the same with her Innate Skills. She understood, though partly, what they did through their names. Maybe her Talent of [Knowledgeable Adaptability] helped with that in some way.
Nevertheless, her curiosity was pointed at the General Skills called [Fae Star] and [Aquatic Blessing]. She naturally understood what they meant and what they did, to some degree.
[Fae Star] slightly increased the amount of change she could bring to the star inside of a fairy, their Core. It also slightly increased the general understanding of her Limits when it comes to the pure manipulation of said stars.
[Aquatic Blessing] lessened the crushing effects of the deep depths, it made her less noticeable to creatures of the depths and increased her mobility and lung capacity by a small amount.
The information on these two General Skills for Junko, who solely relied on the name and her own 'gut feeling' when it came to General and Innate Skills, was 'incomplete' to say it lightly. More than half the information clearly couldn't be taken from Skill's name alone so Junko only knew the basics of these two Skills.
Interestingly enough, it was partly the same for every other General Skill in her arsenal. Junko knew the 'General', 'Clear' Effects but not the fine-tuned details.
Yet for her Innate Skills, it was messy. Little Junko here knew some of the Innate Skills and their effects like the back of her hand, while others were like simple fancy words whose potential was being completely ignored.
Even so, this was not currently of importance for the Little Terror who was enjoying her boil.
After all, she was trying to learn how to 'swim'.
Back on the ship, there were pained groans, hisses of pain, hot steam (not the nice kind), and suffering individuals.
During Little Junko's Great Escape, there were a large number of pursuers, thus there were many a man and woman who ended up on the main deck.
A familiar party of five were situated below deck, sitting together in silence. Well, now it would be more appropriate to say the party of four.
Samaton the knight had removed nearly all his armour as the heat was simply horrendous yet he still kept some light chain mail and all his clothes on. He had a serious yet mostly unbothered expression.
Elaryn the mage was sweating buckets and taking deep breaths even with her light mage wear. Her lower-than-average Endurance and lack of resistance most likely contributed to the severe reaction to the heat.
"I don't know whether to say it's like a sauna or it's like a f*cking desert here now..."
Marcello, one of the older adventurers, commented after emptying a half-litre mug of water. He had removed most of his equipment and only his casual clothes loosely hung around his shoulders.
Bobby, the young adventurer lad, smiled bitterly as he watched Marcello down the remainder of the water he had just brought to the group a few moments prior. He was dressed just as Marcello, all gear removed and clothes loose to let in as much air as possible.
"It's actually colder here than both out there and further below deck."
"That doesn't excuse this damn heat."
As Marcello and Samaton spoke, a figure walked up to them.
An adventurer.
"Sorry Marcello, can't seem to find old Johnathan. He was probably knocked overboard at some point. There's no chance to live through those scalding waves without a really high f*cking Heat Resistance."
Marcello looked over at the adventurer in silence.
"I'm sorry."
The adventurer then left towards another small group. Most likely to deliver some similar news.
"... So Johnny bit the dust, huh."
Samaton comforted him with a pat on the shoulder. Bobby was staring at the ground, not knowing what exactly to say. Elaryn simply looked away, she couldn't quite comfort him in any positive way as they hadn't been acquaintances for long.
"Guess it was just his time. 'Tis' the life of an adventurer, to live in adventure til adventure endeth.' A quote by... Kishin I think."
Marcello muttered to himself.
"Oi Bobby get this old man some more water."
"..okay."
Bobby left to get more water after a short pause.
This was the moment Elaryn looked straight at Marcello.
"Don't use your grief to get the kid to do chores for you now."
"Hah! Figured me out, ey Ellie?".
Marcello laughed it off.
"It's fine, old Johnny A. had a will pre-written and everything. He could have retired at any time actually but stuck around since the thrill of adventure was the only thing to get his heart really pumping. There's not much to grieve with him.
And never mind his old ass, I'm more worried about the kid."
"Well, she didn't drown I don't think. I saw her getting dragged around by his highness' fairy during the storm."
"In a water bubble yeah, sir Knight here said he caught a glance at that too. A bit before the random explosion."
"mhm"
Samaton nodded, letting Elaryn and Marcello continue on talking without directly butting in.
"Yeah, so since she was being dragged around by the fairy, I doubt the two caused this."
"You think it was a freak coincidence, Ellie?"
"His Highness might just have overreacted to the fairy chase situation. The two weren't in sight when the storm started. The two returned during the storm and that freaky volcano eruption or whatever it was came some time after them when both of them were already on deck. The timing of it all is way too mismatched for them two to be the cause."
"Well, sure. That explanation does make sense. Still, the thing is this all did happen during the whole fairy kidnapping incident. It all being a coincidence is a difficult thing to accept."
"Yes, it might be. And when looking for someone to blame for the mess would a human turn to the involved child who barely understands how to speak, would they blame their luck and name it coincidence or would they blame the water element fairy companion of his Highness?"
"I don't f*cking know. I guess I'll just call it coincidence."
"Because doing otherwise would either be treason or a grown-ass man blaming a kid for a f*cking subaquatic explosion."
"Yeah... Exactly that."
Bobby returned with four mugs filled with semi-cold water.
