Chương 7: 7

"I never thought I'd wear a dress again," I mumbled, letting my hair fall free as Lucifer finished buttoning up the back of the sundress we had bought. I glanced at myself in the mirror. The beautiful sky-blue garment was just about the only thing I could wear anymore that would hide the baby bump. Another thing I never thought I would see.

"I like you in them," Lucifer said, moving over to our dresser to find a shirt to put on. "You ready?"

"I'm so tired of looking at houses, Luci." I sighed. "We're never going to find 'the one'."

He came back while he buttoned up his shirt and kissed my head. "We can't keep living with your mother." He said quietly. "She already hates me."

"Why do you care what she thinks of you?" I asked, laughing lightly.

"Have you seen her? She's terrifying." Lucifer replied with a smile. "I would be tempted to make her my right hand if there was a Hell here to rule."

I rolled my eyes and took his hand as we walked from our bedroom. We walked down the stairs, my mother helping me down the last step before placing a kiss on my cheek.

"Eat something before you go out." My mother instructed.

I laughed, "I'm not a little girl, mom."

Her gaze narrowed as she looked over Lucifer. She hadn't cared for him much, no matter how long we had been here. But she didn't have much of a choice anymore. I had more or less proven that he wasn't going anywhere without me.

I picked up an apple from a fruit basket on the kitchen counter, smiled at my mother, and left the house with Lucifer.

"What do you think?" Lucifer asked as we parked my old GTO in front of the last house on our list for the day.

I sighed and rubbed my belly as the baby kicked. "I think I need to pee."

Lucifer laughed, "This is the last house. I promise. I'll build one if that will make you happier."

"Yeah?" I asked.

"And I'll rub your feet when we get home." He smiled at me.

I smiled back. "I'm holding you to that."

He laughed and got out of the car, coming to the passenger side to help me out. I looked over the decent-sized house as he did.

It was two stories. A beautiful hand-made wrap-around porch guarded the old pastel green house. Just from looking in the windows, you could see the spacious front room and some of the kitchen that peeked out of an archway beyond. The windows would need to be cleaned and the porch swept, but those were the only problems with the outside.

Lucifer unlocked the white front door and let me walk inside before he stepped in after me and closed it again. I looked around the great space. The whole downstairs felt so white and open. The windows let in a great warm light that slipped along the hard wood floors. I slipped my hand into Lucifer's as he walked up next to me, tears suddenly in my eyes.

"You ok?" He asked, worry in his voice.

"Ya. I'm just very pregnant and emotional and I kinda love this house." I answered, wiping tears from my cheeks. I smiled softly. "I can see us here, Luci."

Lucifer chuckled, "You wanna see the rest of it before making that decision?"
