Chapter: The Proposal
John felt the weight of the moment as he faced Lord Charles Rothschild and Lady Isabella Rothschild. This meeting could change everything.
"Lord Charles, Lady Isabella, it's a great honor to meet you both," John began, his tone respectful but confident. "I have a proposition that I believe will benefit both of us immensely. I'm interested in acquiring a significant stake in the Rothschild Bank."
Lord Charles raised an eyebrow. "Acquiring a stake in our bank, Mr. John? That's quite a bold proposition. May I ask what sort of capital you are offering?"
John took a deep breath. "I can offer half of my liquid assets, which amounts to nearly half of your family's total liquid cash flow combined."
Lady Isabella's eyes widened slightly, but Lord Charles remained composed. "That is indeed a substantial amount, Mr. John. However, our family's assets are not just about liquid cash flow. Our investments, influence, and legacy are far-reaching and deeply rooted. Your offer, while impressive, does not match the full value of what you seek."
John expected this response. "I understand, Lord Charles. But perhaps we could discuss this further in private."
Lord Charles frowned slightly. "Our discussions are already quite private, Mr. John. What more do you need to discuss?"
John looked around at the other members in the room and lowered his voice. "It involves matters beyond mere finance. Matters that touch upon the mystical arts."
At this, there was a noticeable shift in the atmosphere. The security personnel and aides exchanged curious glances. Lady Isabella narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing John more intently. Lord Charles seemed momentarily taken aback but quickly regained his composure.
"Mr. John," Lord Charles said, his voice measured, "while we respect all matters of interest, our family's affairs are complex. If you have no further financial proposals, I must ask you to kindly leave."
The security personnel moved closer, ready to escort John out. John remained calm and raised his hand slightly. "Before I go, allow me to show you something extraordinary."
Lord Charles hesitated but then nodded to the security personnel to step back. "You have one minute, Mr. John."
John took a deep breath, concentrating. He closed his eyes and murmured an incantation. His hands began to glow with a soft, ethereal light, and an intricate pattern of magical symbols appeared in the air before him, shimmering with energy. As he continued, the symbols formed a floating, radiant orb that emitted a gentle hum.
Lady Isabella and Lord Charles watched in astonishment as the orb pulsed gently in the room. John moved his hands in a fluid motion, directing the orb's light towards them.
"This is merely a demonstration of my abilities," John said softly. "There is more to what I can offer."
He allowed the orb to dissipate and stood calmly, waiting for their reaction. Lady Isabella touched her arm, a look of surprise crossing her face. "I feel... different," she murmured.
Lord Charles looked at her, concern mingling with curiosity. "What do you mean, Isabella?"
"I had been feeling unwell, a constant fatigue. But now, I feel rejuvenated," she explained, her eyes widening as she realized the extent of the change.
Lord Charles turned to John, his expression serious. "What exactly did you do?"
John smiled slightly. "As I said, this is just a demonstration. The full extent of my abilities is far more profound. I am a practitioner of magic, and what I have shown you is a fraction of what I can do."
Lady Isabella looked at John with newfound respect. "This is extraordinary. We have never encountered magic like this before."
Lord Charles nodded slowly. "Very well, Mr. John. You have certainly piqued our interest. We shall continue this discussion in private."
With the security personnel dismissed, the three sat down to have a more private and detailed conversation.
