When you pray to dragons, if they have a little bit of pity on you, then they might grant you either their hatchling, or a quick death under their scorching flames. But in Vinn's case, she hadn't been given an option of a choice as two dragon trainers intercepted her and Lady Brienda on their way to Astrid's Commemoration.

The Dragon Trainers were bearing a dark wooden crate, each of them carrying one side of the fine wood.

"Heir Lenklock asks that you accept this." One of the men gruffly announced.

And when Vinn opened the crate, to her horror and prediction, inside it was one of the two eggs that Astrid protected with her last breath. It steamed like it was cooking with the very fire that their mamma used to fight for them for hot smoke steamed out of the crate, surrounding the egg in a fog-like state.
