*Beep— Beep—*
The rhythmic beeping of the machine and the pungent smell of disinfectant in the air roused Fuyumi from his groggy state.
Opening his eyes, he stared at the unfamiliar white ceiling, unable to recall why he was here.
Before he could voice his confusion, a nurse in a pink uniform, who had been standing nearby, suddenly turned her gaze toward him.
Without giving him a chance to speak, the nurse, after locking eyes with him for a brief moment, blinked and then bolted out of the room as if she had seen a ghost. As she ran, she shouted:
"Dr. Fujitsuki... Dr. Fujitsuki, the patient is awake! Come quick!"
Listening to her voice fading into the distance, Fuyumi opened his mouth to say something, but his bandaged head suddenly felt heavy, as if something had been stuffed into it.
Then, a flood of unfamiliar memories rushed into his mind.
The owner of these memories was a student named Sasaki Fuyumi, 18 years old, a second-year at Eiko Private Academy, living in Tokyo's Taya Ward. He had no girlfriend and was an average student.
At first glance, he seemed like an ordinary high school student, nothing special.
But a few months ago, his parents had died in a car accident, and he, unable to cope with the loss, had begun to contemplate suicide.
Although people around him tried to comfort him, it did little to ease his despair.
Then, not long ago, as he was pondering how to end his life,
a girl about to be hit by an out-of-control truck on a crosswalk gave him the answer.
Thinking that even in death he could do something meaningful, Sasaki Fuyumi pushed aside his fear and ran to save the stranger.
The result was obvious.
He died... and then he lived...
After digesting these unfamiliar memories, before he could even process the fact that he had somehow transmigrated, the sound of hurried high heels clicking against the floor outside the room interrupted his thoughts.

"Did he show any strange reactions after waking up?"
A woman's voice, serious but with a hint of... disappointment, echoed from outside the room.
Then came the nurse's reply:
"No... As soon as he woke up, I came to notify you."
"I see."
*Click—*
The door to the room was pushed open.
Entering the room was a doctor who looked nothing like a doctor.
The reason she didn't look like a doctor was that her appearance was far from the typical image of one.
Her messy, unkempt golden shoulder-length hair looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks.
Her ordinary face was pale, like a vampire who hadn't seen sunlight in ages.
The dark red lipstick on her lips only reinforced Sasaki Fuyumi's impression of her as a "vampire."
According to Western folklore about vampires, female vampires usually had incredibly hot and seductive bodies.
Although Sasaki Fuyumi didn't know how accurate that description was, he felt that this doctor's figure could rival that of any vampire.
Tall, with a curvaceous and alluring figure, she exuded the unique charm of a mature woman.
More importantly, what she wore under her white coat was extremely provocative.
Black hot pants that reached her thighs revealed her long, snow-white legs.
The red tank top that barely contained her ample chest created an eye-catching silhouette.
Her outfit, combined with her messy hair, made it seem like she had just rushed out of her house, still half-asleep, like a party girl.
But the white coat she wore and the doctor's badge pinned to it silently confirmed her identity.
Suppressing his surprise and confusion,
Sasaki Fuyumi leaned back against the headboard and met her gaze through her half-rimmed purple glasses.
Her eyes were lifeless and dull, like those of a dead fish.
Just as he thought this strikingly attractive doctor was about to ask him how he was feeling, she said something that made him doubt whether his ears were working.
"Congratulations, you've successfully missed your chance to become a girl."
Her tone was flat and emotionless, not at all like someone offering congratulations.
Sasaki Fuyumi, confused, rubbed his ear and tilted his head: "Huh?"
Without any explanation, the doctor expressionlessly extended her slender, pale right hand, which had been tucked inside her white coat, and adjusted the glasses that were slipping down her nose:
"Do you remember why you're lying here?"
"A car accident..."
Not understanding why the doctor was asking him, the patient, this question, Sasaki Fuyumi answered anyway.
"Do you know how severe your injuries were?"
Thinking for a moment but having no memory of the incident, Sasaki Fuyumi shook his head: "No, how bad was it?"
Walking around the bed, the doctor, whose name was Fujitsuki Mi, checked the instruments on the bedside table and then turned to him:
"Under normal circumstances, you shouldn't have woken up."
"Things like this happen every year, though..."
Glancing at the doctor's badge on her chest, Sasaki Fuyumi smiled faintly.
"Well, you're not wrong." She nodded slightly, her dead-fish eyes and icy expression unchanging, and picked up a small circular patch from the instrument, attaching it to Sasaki Fuyumi's neck:
"Even though I'm sure you're fine, we still have to follow hospital procedures."
"You can tell I'm fine just by looking at me?"
Muttering softly, Sasaki Fuyumi then asked about the first thing she had said when they met:
"You said I missed my chance to become a girl... What did you mean by that?"
Hearing this sensitive topic, Fujitsuki Mi didn't react, but the nurse who had been standing nearby suddenly left the room.
Now, only the two of them remained.
"Exactly what it sounds like. According to this hospital's policy, in cases where the family doesn't object, we can offer special treatments to patients in unique situations."
"This treatment would have guaranteed your recovery, but it comes with side effects."
Taking the small patch she handed him and placing it on his chest as instructed, Sasaki Fuyumi asked about the side effects:
"The side effect is a sex change?"
"Correct."
"And you're sure I would have woken up? That's impressive."
"It's decent. But the result we were aiming for in the research wasn't this. This was more of an accidental byproduct."
Seeing that the instruments weren't showing any abnormal reactions, Fujitsuki Mi nodded. As she spoke, there was no trace of pride or satisfaction in her expression.
"Is it okay for you to tell me this?"
Although he wasn't keen on the side effect, for patients in certain critical conditions, this could be a lifeline.
So naturally, Sasaki Fuyumi assumed that this groundbreaking technology wasn't something to be casually discussed.
"If you knew what the original goal of this research was, you wouldn't be so surprised."
"Can I know?"
"Doesn't matter... After all, until you woke up, you were part of this research too."
"The research was about how to extend human lifespan."
