The night has fallen. The gloomy sky was without a star. The storm refused to stop roaring and with sand covering the sky. The black clouds looked like they covered the entire world.
A shadow of a person staggering along bursts into the border of a primitive forest in Yunnan.
Suddenly, the figure appears to be hindered by something for a moment before it slips and falls down to the ground in a sorry figure.
A silver-colored lightning streaks across the horizon illuminating the pale color of the figure's face. The man was about a little over thirty years old, his long scarlet hair was now covered in dirt and grass. He had thick and long eyebrows and a long scar from the outer corner of his eye with an inclined slash all the way to his chin. These features added a look of brutality and cruelty to his visage.
He struggled to crawl back up as blood dripped down from the wound on his chest, drop by drop. This caused his clothes to be dyed in a dark red color.
"Just come out, you bitches! Do you think I can't find you all with those trash skills of yours?"
The figure powerlessly leaned against the side of the big tree as he ridiculed them in a voice that sounded like a sonorous and powerful bell.
He had barely finished his sentence when several shadows, without any words or communication, suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the vicinity to safely surround him, effectively blocking any possible escape routes.
"You're as obnoxious as ever." The one at the front snickered at the figure. He was a middle-aged man in his forties and had a massive build. His eyes were sharp and currently filled with malice and hatred.
Hawk traced his left shoulder which was missing an arm as he barked.
"Do you remember how you cut off my arm?"
The young man shrugged his shoulder and smiled mockingly. "Am I supposed to? I'd squeezed thousands of bugs to death, do you expect me to remember everyone? You should have lived your life peacefully since God had given you a chance."
"Hmph! And forget my revenge?! Do you think I'm an idiot?" Hawk barked, glaring at him in hatred.
He was once a very famous and powerful mercenary, among the top five but... his battle with the young man in front of him caused him massive damage.
All of his subordinates were killed and he lost one of his hands.
And because of what?...
Because the young man found him and his group unpleasant in his eyes.
Hawk gritted his teeth in hatred, wanting to tear him in pieces.
The young man shook his head in pity. "Well, you're lucky last time. Let me help you reunite with your dead friends."
*Bang!*
"Why y-Agh!" Hawk's words got stuck in his throat as a bloody hole appeared over his skull. He fell down lifelessly on the ground with his eyes filled with shock and regret.
Six of the other guys were startled and saw the young man pointing a mini pistol at Hawk.
"Bastard!" They shouted in unison and took out their guns, aiming at him.
*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*...
The young man ducked to the left and rolled on the ground before he dashed forward at them.
'Hehe... I will pull you all down with me to the bottom of hell!'
His devilish grin was reflected in their shivering pupils.
It was already a done deal for the young man since he knew he couldn't escape alive so he wanted to at least take all of them down.
The six of them were startled again by their actions and retreated to put some distance but it was a fatal mistake on their part since it became the reason for their doom.
If six of them had charged together then at least half of them would have escaped alive but alas... there were no second chances.
The young man was called Seph. He didn't have a backstory like a protagonist of a story or anything resembling that. His mother died when he was born. His father raised him all alone. He had no siblings or any family since his parents had eloped together from their country, leaving their families so they could live together.
His father was an army guy even before he turned to the path of a mercenary.
When he was around twelve, his father also passed away during a mission. Since then, he had lived between mercenaries his whole life, his path was pretty much already fixed.
He joined a team of his father's friends at the age of fifteen and gained experience until the age of 20.
Until one day, during a mission, they were ambushed by their rival groups.
Seph was able to escape into the dark forest where he came across a cave. Since he had nowhere to go, he explored it and came across something that changed his life for the good.
It was a diary of a dead researcher who had somehow got stuck in it and died in that place. It had the information of a breathing method that could raise the abilities of a person for a minute, making him almost superhuman.
The dead guy had deciphered it from an ancient script somehow.
Seph decided to lay low and mastered that technique.
Despite the great benefits of the technique, it had a huge downside. Using it continuously without break would pose a serious burden on the body and could possibly destroy it.
Yet, Seph spent two years to master it before he returned to the Mercenary world.
After another year of gaining experience, he raged hell on all those groups who had ambushed his group three years ago.
Hawk was one of them and in their confrontation, the guy lost his everything but was able to escape with his life.
After that, Seph's fame soared and he was referred to as 'Ghost' because of his peculiar skills.
He was even deemed as the Mercenary King by everyone.
Despite getting his revenge, Seph was feeling empty. Nothing he did after that filled the large gap in his heart.
But luckily, he was able to decipher more symbols after studying all those notes for so many years.
After he was done, it led him to the depth of the Amazon Forest, a place which was yet to be explored.
It was one of a hellish journey and he came face to face with death on several occasions.
But he persisted and came across some ancient ruins.
Just looking at them gave him chills down his spine.
Seph explored the ruins and tried to decipher them, spending a few years in them.
The thunderclap crackled from afar. The accumulation of the rainwater has finally flown down to the earth in torrents...
Seph was having flashbacks of every little detail of his life.
His vision started to blur slightly and the fatigue had finally caught up with him.
Even though he had a cheat-like ability but it's not without any consequences.
He plopped down on the ground and stared at the sky which was sparkling with bolts of thunder.
'So, this is it, huh? You have finally caught up to me too...'
He put his hand into his jacket and took out a small object.
It was a pitch-black translucent orb that had weird engravings covering it.
All of the chase and life-and-death battles were for this object. Seph discovered it inside a tomb which he found in those ruins, buried underground in the middle of the Amazon forest.
After facing dozens of life threatning challenges was he able to secure this thing.
Seph had no idea what it was but he was sure of one thing that it was definitely something extraordinary.
'Hehe... I wonder what it is... but it seems I can never learn that, huh? Now what should I do with this thing... I do not want it to fall into someone else hands so...'
A crazy expression appeared on his face and he opened his mouth before gulping it down. Just as he did, an extremely cold energy appeared in his stomach and rushed into his body.
*Puff*
Seph instantly vomited a mouthful of blood as the coldness covered his body, rendering his limbs unable to move.
It was at this moment that he had a hallucination of seeing a giant figure covered in darkness as it swallowed millions of lives, destroying everything in its path.
The figure raised its head and its massive eyes bore down at him, piercing his soul as he felt himself disintegrating into dust.
A deep fear arose in his heart, swallowing him completely and when his vision was restored, he was able to witness an otherworldly scene.
Up in the sky, a massive whirlpool of clouds had gathered above his head with lightning flashing in it like dragons and sea monsters, gathering at the center.
*Crackle!!*
Suddenly, a giant lightning, that is as thick as an elephant, comes down striking from the dense black clouds above. With his body frozen in its place unable to move, Seph's body is broken apart into particles by the lightning, and even his rags don't remain.
The entire world was amazed and shaken by the might of heaven as the lightning chared the ground up to 100 meters, turning everything to dust.
