When Fu Jie opened his eyes to look around, he was greeted with the sight of a ceiling, but it wasn't long before he closed his eyes again and fell asleep. The next time he opened his eyes, the rays of the sun that peeked from the window were glaring at him and it took him a whole minute to adjust to the light.
He sat up straight and looked around to analyze his surroundings.
He had clearly fallen asleep on the battlefield so where was he right now?
Was this heaven?
He shook the idea out of his mind since there was no way this would be heaven.
Someone sent Fu Jie to heaven? There was just no way.
If anything, he'd be sent to hell after his death, or at least, that was what Fu Jie believed in.
If he wasn't in heaven, and the area wasn't hot enough to be hell, there was only one answer: he wasn't dead yet.
He didn't know anything about how the battle ended or who emerged as the winner but since he was still alive, he didn't care about who the winner was.
It wasn't like he was fighting on behalf of the sky sect anyways. He was fighting to keep his head intact to his body.
When Fu Jie was completely conscious, his hand reached up to touch his face that didn't have the mask on.
"..."
Someone had taken the mask off.
The mask...
The mask that was supposed to hide his identity...
He was in deep trouble if they figured out who he was but why...
Why was everything so peaceful?
He was their enemy so why was he sleeping on a comfortable bed and not back in jail?
He stood up and searched the room for his mask, but he couldn't find it. The room was rather empty with not much furniture lying around. There was a bed, a table, and a chair. There was a single cabinet that was completely empty and that was it. The room was small and it was clear that it was made only for one person to temporarily come and sleep.
"Where the hell is it?!" Fu Jie felt the urge to find his mask and run away as soon as possible. He didn't know why, but his gut told him that staying here was going to be trouble and so he decided to listen to his gut and run away but how could anything he wanted ever happen?
"Ah!" He yelped as he felt something hit his head.
He snapped his head as he looked at the man who was standing in the doorway, staring at him.
At first, he wanted to curse at the person who had thrown something at his head, but when he saw the face of this man, he couldn't say anything.
Xiao Jingyi looked as cold as ever as he spoke, "Useless."
"..."
Has nobody ever told this man that it was bad manners to call a person useless out of the blue every now and then?
This man was asking to get cursed!
Fu Jie hid his hostility behind a warm smile as he asked, "What are you doing here, brother?"
Xiao Jingyi didn't say anything as he looked down at the object he had thrown at Fu Jie.
It was the mask Fu Jie had been desperately trying to find.
When Fu Jie followed his line of sight and saw the mask, his hand immediately reacted as he picked it up and heaved a sigh of relief.
He still couldn't understand what had happened but since it was Xiao Jingyi standing in front of him, he knew he was safe for now.
No matter how much he disliked this man, he still couldn't deny the fact that this man had helped him a lot, and although he looked completely unwilling to help Fu Jie, he still did it nonetheless so he had to be given credit for it.
"How come I'm here?" Fu Jie asked as he stood up straight and looked at the man who was slightly taller than him.
Xiao Jingyi shook his head and turned around instead of giving him a reply.
"Eh? Brother, wait up!" Fu Jie immediately wore his mask and followed after the man as he asked the same question once again, "Why am I here?"
When Fu Jie got out of the room, he found that this place was familiar yet not familiar to him. It looked a lot like Xiao Jingyi's house but that was not it. The infrastructure was different while the style of building was the same. It had the same feeling but it was clearly different.
Xiao Jingyi seemed to be ignoring his existence as he kept on walking without caring if Fu Jie was following him or not.
Fu Jie thought that the third time might be a charm so he decided to ask the question again but before the words could roll out of his tongue, he had to gulp it back down as he felt someone holding his arm. He turned his head to look at the girl who was pulling his sleeve.
"Hmm? Who are-" He was about to ask her identity but his question was cut-off in the middle as the girl pulled harder and dragged him away.
"Wait! Where are you taking me?" Fu Jie was pulled away from Xiao Jingyi who disappeared from his sight.
"Young man, don't annoy Elder Dayu." The girl spoke as she pulled him away with her, "You are now an inner core disciple. Why don't I help you get accustomed to this place?"
"Huh? Inner core what now?!"
"Are you hungry? If we don't hurry, you won't be able to get your meal."
When Fu Jie heard this, he remembered the last time he had eaten the steamed dumplings and puked it all out on innocent people. Just by thinking back to that scene, he no longer had any appetite left to eat but his stomach was still empty and it was already killing him.
"I'll tell you everything when we get there." The girl spoke and Fu Jie nodded as he followed her.
The only thing that kept him calm at this moment was the thought of running away. If there was any danger, he could always run away. He had a way out so he wasn't too worried about trusting this girl who was wearing light blue-colored robes.
When they reached a certain place, just like the girl had said, there was food being served to the people. It was like a canteen but Fu Jie was sure that it wasn't called a canteen.
Before they arrived, the place was noisy and lively but as soon as the others saw Fu Jie, they stopped talking and looked at him cautiously.
There weren't any tables left, but a pair of disciples stood up and vacated a seat for Fu Jie who suddenly felt as if he was a really important man here.
All eyes were on him as he took a seat and waited for the girl to bring him some food but the girl also sat down on the chair facing opposite to him and waited for the food that was soon brought to them by a man who looked to be shaking just by standing near Fu Jie.
Fu Jie knew the mask was a bit weird but there was no way it was enough reason for him to receive such reactions.
Why were all these people so wary of him? It wasn't like he had ever done anything wrong to them.
`The girl looked at Fu Jie and spoke, "Don't mind them. They are just surprised to see you."
"Surprised?"
The girl nodded her head as she picked up the spoon kept on the right side of her bowl of soup, "It isn't every day, we get to see a person directly entering as an inner-core disciple."
"What does that mean?"
"Huh? You don't know what an inner-core disciple means?"
Fu Jie shook his head and it shocked the girl who couldn't believe such a person existed in this world.
How could he not know this? Wasn't it common knowledge among everyone?
"Inner-core disciples are selected personally by the elders and are directly trained under them."
"Then why do you keep calling me one?" Fu Jie asked in confusion.
The girl tilted her head as she pointed her empty spoon at Fu Jie and responded, "Because you were personally selected by Elder Dayu and entered the sect as an inner-core disciple."
"Eh?" Fu Jie was dumbfounded as he reacted to the news, "Since when?!"
What in the duck was going on?!
The last thing he remembered before waking up was being in the middle of a battle. He fell asleep and thought he'd end up dead, instead, he woke up here, a place he had never been before and now he got to know that he was an inner-core disciple here? When did all of this happen and why was he unaware of it?!
The other sect disciples: Wha~ This man must be extremely talented! To get trained under Elder Dayu, what are the chances of such luck befalling upon you?
Cherry: Lmao
Cherry: Are you sure it's luck?
Fu Jie: Eh?
Cherry: He might just want to torture you.
Fu Jie:...
Fu Jie: Is it too late to run away?
Cherry: It was always too late to run away.
Cherry: But it's never too late to vote for this book and add it to your library!
Fu Jie: Shameless piece of cherry!
Cherry: hehehe
