Chương 25: Award night

Ray

The seminal came to an end by 6:30 pm and we went back to the hotel together. She left me in the lobby and order her dinner, which she took up to her room. I was so surprised when she did this, could it be that she was avoiding me. The thought that she was hurt me and I wonder why. Maybe it is because even if I acted like that is what I wanted, deep down in my heart I knew I wanted so badly to talk to her.

I sat on my bed trying very hard not to call her room line. After a while, I convinced myself it was best that way. I called the reception and order my dinner. Then I took my bath eat and slept.

The next day was the second and last day of the seminar. We would have an interactive section from 8 am to 2 pm. Then we will go for a lunch break. And return in the evening around 6 pm for an award night. Which will last for only three hours as many participants will be returning the next day.

After the morning section, we returned to the hotel to rest and change for the award and Dinner night. I was set by 5:35 pm and I walked down to the parking slot. She was already there. God, she looked beautiful and I could not stop myself from saying wow. She was putting on a red long gown that brought out every of her curve. Her heir was parked up ponytail. And for the first time, I notice she had makeup on. It was simple but very beautiful. The drive to the award night was quiet as usual. When we arrived a lot of the other participants were already there. The waiters were serving drinks and everyone present was engaged with side talks and pleasantries. She walks over to meet with Miss Bright student. I could tell that the other student must be her friend as they look very close to each other.

While we were still waiting for the award night to beginning, I noticed another lady walked toward her and somehow the lady pours her drink over her beautiful dress. It looked like an accident but since I was looking at them when the whole scene took place I could tell that the lady had done it on purpose.

I am so sorry Bella I was not paying much attention to where I was going. The lady who poured her the drink quickly apologized. She looked at the lady and I could see a hint of surprise on her face.

Lisa, you should watch where you are going her friend said to the lady who just apologizes. Why are you the one talking? This has nothing to do with you. The lady talked back at her friend. Besides her dress is red and the drink is not visible.

Lisa, I am sure you have gone out of your mind. You sound as if anybody will feel comfortable walking about in a dress wet with wine, her friend replied the lady sounding very angry.

I was wondering why she was quiet and not saying anything. Was she usually this... My thoughts were caught hanging with the cold voice that I heard next.

Elizabeth why waste your time with someone who should be in a mental asylum. Can't you see she is not normal? Tell me will anyone in their right senses walk absent-mindedly in a hall filled with people? She asked facing her friend as if the other lady was invisible. I was so surprised at her response and even her friend and the lady seemed surprised.

Why don't you follow me to the restroom to get cleaned up instead of standing here and having meaningless arguments, she said and as she finished speaking she began to walk towards the restroom. Her friend recover from her surprise rolled her eyes at the lady and hurried after her.

Hey Ray, I heard my name behind me and turned around to see who was calling. Unique I turned with a surprise smile. Hey is that how you greet an old friend she said pulling me into a hug before I could refuse her.

Unique has always been a pain in my neck. She had a major crush on me back then as students. She is beautiful and intelligent but she is too full of herself and she was anything but nice. What are you doing here? I asked.

What kind of questions is that, I am also a writer remember she said. I looked at her not knowing what to say. Anyway, how have you been? She asked looking straight into my eyes. I am fine and you? I asked. She smiled happily at me. I am doing fine. Since you are in town why don't we hang out for a bit after the event. You know to celebrate your award, she said.

There is no guaranty that I will win, it just a nomination I answered. She opened her mouth like she was going to tell me she was certain I will win but she closed it back and after a short pause. She asked if we can go out to celebrate if I win.

I pause for a second as if I was thinking about it. I did not want to turn her down outrightly. So after the pause, I apologise and told her I have an early morning flight. Who was I kidding I was going on a private jet and I could leave anytime I want.

She looked sad but she smiled and accepted my excuse. At least you did not turn me down immediately this time, she said before walking away. I knew she felt disappointed.

The program started and I looked around for her. I mean my student but could not find her anywhere in the hall. She should be sitting next to me. I waited for another five minutes but I still could not find her. I remember she headed to the restroom the last time I saw her. So I decided to go check on her, as it has been a long time since she left.

I stood up from my chair and walked toward the restroom but stop on my track when I heard voices. It was very familiar. She was standing with her friend and the lady that had pour her the drink.

Lisa move I don't have time to waste I heard her voice. Why are you acting high and might? it only a coincidence that you were paired with Ray. I am sure he just treated you like a student and nothing more. Imagine how you took extra time to look good the lady said. Did she take that extra time to look good because of me? I thought.

How does this have to do with anything here? If you had not poured your drink on her, then we would not waste thirty minutes of our time trying to get it off her dress her friend answered.

She just burst intfist of laughing, I was surprised. What was so funny or did I miss something? Lisa is this all about Ray. You want to sit next to him because if that what you want I can do you the honor and change sit with you she said. That statement hurt me. Was she avoiding me so much that she was ready to change places with her enemies just to be far from me? And here I am worried about her. I turn and left as I did not feel like listening any longer.

I won a booker's award that night and I was not sure if I was happy or not. Hearing what she said to the lady called Lisa hurts me and I was not sure why. The drive back to the hotel was quiet and I was holding myself with all I am to stop myself from asking her why she is avoiding me. How on earth can I even ask that, when I have not opened my mouth to respond to her greetings.

We got back to the hostel at about 9:39 pm. I lay on my bed and tried to sleep but I could not. In the end, I gave up and called her room number. I could not hold back anymore I have to talk to her.

It me Ray I said,as soon as she pick the call. I was wondering if you would like to go out for a late-night ride? I asked. ..
