Eddie jumped down from his bed as soon as the alarm clock came alove. It was Saturday and a spring cleaning day. He quickly brushed his teeth and dressed up before rushing downstairs.
"Good morning mom" He greeted before giving her a warm hung from behind.
"Morning Eddie" Katherine answered. A woman in her early fourties but her age didn't speak of her looks. She was younger than she looked and her beauty made her look even younger.
Jade, his half sister soon came running down almost immediately barely avoiding a fall from the stairs out of her rush.
Katherine was already doing part of the house cleaning but most of the house still remained unattended to.
Jade walked straight to the kitchen without saying a word to anyone hoping to find her breakfast and return to her room but there wasn't any.
"Mom, what are we having for breakfast?" She asked a hint of hunger and disappointment in her voice.
Katherine let out a small laughter, not looking up to her daughter as she still continued her cleaning.
"No one eats until the house is cleaned up" Katherine finally declared making the two humans beside her groan.
Eddie zoomed off, rushing upwards before anyone could blin and returned after ten minutes.
"Done! I've finished with upstairs" He made known. Being a werewolf in a witches home was rather very odd giving the type of world they lived in. But after his parents had abandoned him during the wolf massacre, Katherine had found him and regardless of the war between the three factions, had taken him in without complaint.
He had grown up in this house all his memories both good and bad were all tied to this house and these two witches. He was now also partly a wizard now. He had picked up one or two spells over the course of the eighteen years he had lived with them.
Jade rolled her eyes, clearly not impressed with Eddie's show off.
She was seventeen, only being born after a year that her mother had taken Eddie in. Already well acquainted with almost all the magic her clan had to offer, she was already a powerful witch at her age and her brilliance and intellect shone above all other of her features.
Katherine sighed before flicking her finger lifting the cloaking spell she had casted over the already prepared breakfast.
A knock came to the door almost immediately they finished their breakfast and with a swing of her hand, the door flung open giving access to whomever that knocked.
"You should check before you let someone in" Eddie advised.
A figure they both recognized walked in, and almost like magic, Jade was smiling all over and adjusting herself.
"Hey," she greeted twirling her hair while making room for him to sit on the couch.
The visitor greeted back, a smile on face making the once gloomy girl explode with joy and brightness.
"Dude" Eddie acknowledged, the two of them exchanged handshakes while Jade still sat batting her eyes and hoping she gets noticed.
Scott was Eddie's best friend, Jade's crush and every girls dream man and for good reason. His looks were above the charts for a normal human. He was a mere human but he already knew of their identity.
"Its Saturday and all you want to do is watch TV?" Scott asked clearly disappointed at the lack of youth spirit in his friend. "The carnival is in town" He reminded already pulling Eddie out of his seat. He wasn't visiting to just sit around and watch television. As an only child, the only people he could play with were his parents and even though he had many female friends, he didn't have many male friends. Most of the were either jealous or angry that their girl left them because of him.
"You wanna come Jade?" Scott asked.
"Are you asking me out?" She blurted out before finally regaining herself "sure, yes. I mean who watches TV on a Saturday?" Jade promptly bounced off her seat and got on her feet immediately. How could she possibly refuse Scott.
The three of them strolled out of the house and made their way towards the city park where the carnival was supposed to be. Outside their homes, nobody was safe any longer, everyone had to be on alert. Vampires, witches and very little of the werewolves roamed around. Everyone was prone to attack even though they weren't meant to openly fire at each other when amongst the humans. Harming humans without an appropriate reason was a huge crime and this one of the reasons the war amongst the factions was on.
The vampires were against this rule, humans were their food and they'd die if they didn't feed. It was true, and very understandable so it was decided that they could feed but not kill. But the vampires were never good listeners. They didn't kill, but they took the opportunity to turn humans into vampires drastically increasing their number.
And an increase in the vampire headcount meant more humans to be fed on. The werewolves had immediately reacted to this outrageous act and had ordered the vampire council to control their faction but they never listened, instead they ambushed the werewolf clan and almost cleared out the clan. This was termed the moon massacre. Their reason for this being that they won't take orders from animals cloaked as human beings.
The witches being the closest to the human faction, had gone on an all out war against the vampires but the undead creatures were faster, stronger and had the numbers while the witches were really regular humans who happened to have magic in their veins. They weren't really supernaturally strong or fast.
The witches had lost and had retreated from the war. But they had managed to reduce the undead creatures down in numbers by a long shot. But after everything, the vampires were victorious which meant that many of them were amongst them posing as casual humans. These were obviously powerful vampires who have ranked enough to obtain a sunlight ring which meant that every vampire that walked the streets during the day was a force to reckon with.
They walked towards the park with Jade constantly scaring off girls that stared at Scott for too long and the same time watching out for those blood sucking demons that their scent lingered around. She was mainly stalking out for them because she knew Scott was human and most vulnerable and with his looks she could already tell he tasted good. His slightly tanned skin, those red glowing lips and... She snapped herself out of her fantasy and focused on what she was doing.
She was already skilled enough to go against an above average vampire and win. But the ones that walked under the sun would be a lot difficult to take on. They were strong and well above average.
Eddie was also on the look out for vampires and he could already smell about eight of them around but he acted natural not wanting to send off any suspicious signal. Since he barely transforms to his wolf form, his scent was barely traceable. Giving off wolf signals in this environment was definitely suicidal. Ever since the moon massacre, the surviving wolves had gone into hiding probably planning on surfacing when they were strong enough to take on their enemies, and that made seeing wolves around almost impossible.
They reached the park safely without any strange encounters. The carnival was brimming with life, majority of the individuals present being kids and teenagers.
They moved forward to a table that people had crowded around. Apparently, a magician was putting on a performance but they were already aware of the fact that this was no ordinary magician and he was casually putting a target on his back without worry by displaying magic randomly in a place that overflowed with vampires.
The trio left the stall casually walking from stall to stall wining games with ease. Everything seemed fun when you had a witch and a wolf around you. But nevertheless, Scott was also being aware of his surrounding. Sometimes, he wished he never knew about the supernatural existence. He would be free and lived his life without constantly trying to make out which of the people around him were vampires, witches or wolves. A normal human stood no chance against creatures that could put a whole in a brick building with their fist without feeling pain or even receiving fractures.
He glanced around over his shoulder only to notice a stare glued on him. It was natural for him, both girls and boys always stared at him but things had gotten awkward when he turned twenty minutes later and still met the same eyes. He instantly knew that this girl wasn't human but he pretended not to notice her.
She had taken the bull by the horns and approached him. She looked their age, and was definitely in a league of her own when it came to beauty. She leaned in on him, took his hands in hers before making a sad face and finally speaking.
"I want that one" she said in a sad yet excited tone making a teary face as she did so.
Her hands were dead cold and he could notice the streak of red in her pupils, she was definitely a vampire but he acted like he hadn't noticed and slid a dollar note towards the owner of the counter who in return armed him with three darts.
Jade was startled by the sudden intrusion in between her and Scott and the instant this presence made it's appearance she immediately knew this was a vampire. Her scent was everywhere and most of all, this vampire looked prettier than her. She immediately snatched Scott's hand away from the vampire's, and warmed it up with hers before pulling herself closer to Scott.
"He's here with me" she informed batting her lashes at the vampire with a smile on her face. She was aware that this girl or possibly grandma already knew she was a witch and she wasn't planning on hiding it. For her to have a sunlight ring meant that she must be a powerful vampire and have possibly lived for a century or longer.
"I'm Nicole" The girl introduced instead not wanting to pay attention to the rudeness of the young witch in front of her.
Eddie had also noticed the presence of a vampire close to them and had turned towards the direction the scent was strongest only to see the creature already holding onto Scott. He wanted to intervene but Jade had gotten to her first. He was already aware that some powerful vampires were capable of compulsion and he only hope Scott hadn't been compelled.
"I don't really want to know" Jade sassed, the two constantly smiling while wishing death for the other in their head.
"I think we should go" Eddie suggested. If anything was to happen they were certain to lose, this place was overflowing with vampire and attacking one meant summoning a horde upon yourself.
He pulled his friend who stood watching the two girls without saying a word, before pulling Jade away with him also before biding Nicole good bye.
"See you soon handsome" she waved at Scott just before the three of them disappeared amongst the crowd.
