THE WHISPERS IN HER EAR BECOMES LOUDER.
"I said be quiet! I had to, so they wouldn't spot you." The voice whispers in her ear again and she feels like it is coming from all directions so Aubrey can't trace where the woman in located. "And if you don't shut up now, my efforts to hide you from them will be in vain."
Aubrey's ears turn red from anger and she opens her mouth to yell louder but once her eyes land on Kai, she stops herself.
All tension in her body dies down when she sees the young boy with black colored hair kneeling at the other side of the river, crying. Her heart aches at the sight as it reminds her of all the times when she would catch Brady in his room crying on his knees, but that was always about issues with how he misses home and his parents— what would a powerful god like Kai cry about?
