Third person POV
A motivation common to all gambling types is the desire to win money. But, people with gambling problems often place more importance on winning money than people without gambling problems.
In popular culture, winning is associated with success, happiness, and a better life. Some games, such as lotteries, offer the fantasy of winning big with a small wager.
Thus, while lotteries are considered quite harmless for the most part, people experiencing financial hardship may spend more than they can afford on lotteries, with the unrealistic hope of winning big.
The social context of gambling can be important. People may gamble to socialize and spend time with friends and family members. Evidence on how the social motivation is related to harmful gambling is mixed.
On the one hand, people may want to socialize with others and, therefore, spend more time and money on gambling than they want to; on the other hand, gambling with other people may act as a form of social control.
In other words, people may stop themselves from gambling to excess to avoid the disapproval of others.
Gambling for excitement and gambling to cope with or escape from stress and life troubles are two other common motives. Gambling for excitement, also known as the enhancement motive, has been associated with harmful gambling.
Some games, including high stakes casino games, are set up to satisfy the desire for excitement. Gambling to cope with or escape from stress and life troubles is very common among people with gambling problems.
Some games, including EGMs, may bring about a state of dissociation. In that state, gamblers become so immersed in the game that they lose track of time and their surroundings. As a consequence, they spend more time and money gambling than they realize.

The tension in the room could be cut with a knife.
It was dead silent, no one speaking a word. All was heard was the cards and chips on the table. The dealers have moved swiftly, their eyes were filled with excitement and curiosity.
Colt looked at his hand and back to the person in front of him. The guy in front of him was clearly nervous. His leg was bouncing non-stop and he looked at colt one to many times. '𝐇𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝' is what colt thought.
Colt smirked as he and the guy locked eyes. Colt raised is eyebrows as if asking '𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐝𝐨'. The guy clenched his jaw and cleared his throat before focusing back on his cards. The choice was near.
As the guy looked at colt again he frowned as he looked at the card. Colt raised his eyes back to the guy to find him smirking in which colt smirked in return.
It was obvious what his ploy was, and it was working like a charm, and just like that the choice was decided.
"I call"
And just like that they both put their hands out in the open, one card significantly better than the other. The mans faced turned from cocky to horrored in a second. Colt smiled down at his hand proudly.
Four of a kind.
The guy slumped in his chair defeated as colt stood up in victory. He gathered all his chips and went to cash out, he was done for the night. He wasn't gonna risk losing all his money on a sudden loss.
He walked out of the side door in the casino happily. He flicked his pink lucky chip up like a coin before catching it with a laugh. But his happiness was soon set aside by the sudden cloth put over his mouth.
He tried to scream but his voice was muffled by the cloth in his mouth. He struggled, clawing at the guys hand but he wouldn't budge. As he inhaled he started to lose consciousness until he everything went black and he went limp in the mans arm.
