Max levitated above his mattress, in a lotus position. Just last week, his family's messenger bird delivered something to him. On it was ancient information. It was similar to what his father Merlin, once told him. It is about a mysterious force called mental power or simply mana.
It was like ki, in some ways. But it was not at the same time. 'No wonder not many practices this! I can barely manage despite my innate abilities!' said Max, in fascination at the experience. Mental power is from the mind, and qi is in the body.
One is contained (qi), and one is created and destroyed (mana). Constantly using mana will slowly increase the amount they produce. What Max received was a bunch of instructions. It was on how to use mana in the most effective way possible, 1024 spell blueprints, information about beings and realms, and locked away information, he was not yet able to view.
What Max was trying to do right now, was to create a model of a mana blast. The basics of most spells, as it was the easiest way to get mana out of the body. "This has been my 1200 simulation and my 40th try."
Max tries to create another, by cupping his hands. Slowly, a transparent ball of energy appeared in the middle of his hands. Just as Max was excited at his progress, the ball then exploded, blasting him toward a wall. "Another failed trial," said Max, as he removed himself from the wall and dusted his robes.
This has been his life since Rojins' death, constantly experimenting with his new powerset with the war going on against the empire and the undead…. Which he was supposed to prepare for.
'Shit, I have to change to adventuring clothes!' said Max as he rushed to get his weapons in place, and his expenses ready.
After he picked up all those things, he jumped off the window and landed on the ground. Then floated above the city and flew to where his team was supposed to meet up.
'Why are you late again? You are infuriating! And annoying,' said Enora as she threw a rock at Max which he dodged at the last second.
'A cat blocked me!' said Max defensively as he swerved through the projectiles.
'Why you?' said Enora, gritting her teeth angrily, wanting to give him a piece of her mind.
'Alright you two Jesus! We have to get going, the adventurer guild didn't give us our task directly, so we have to go to a town, on the outskirts,' said Krista, stopping the quarrel from escalating even more as the citizens were giving their team weird looks.
'Fun team! Why did I agree to join again? I am a one-man team if I do say so myself,' said Garrett, regretful he didn't just outright say no now.
"Shut up!" The three of them said at the same time. Getting into the carriage prepared for them by the guild. Upon entering the ride slowly became transparent and disappeared.
Undead battlefield…
Troops of undead marched on this empty land. Their coordination was uncanny. They moved not like living creatures, but like robots. Led by a scrawny skeleton, that hid in the back of the tide and delivered instructions.
'Is this all they have? If so, then why did we worry about them, so much?' Said a woman. 'We could have just sent, 200000 of the imperial army?'
'Don't underestimate them Lriki, for they are not as simple as you think!" said Rex to Lriki while watching the army Infront and trying to find the leader. Well, the true leader and not this puppet leader.
Rex then rode forward, and on the undead side, a short skeleton on top of a huge ghoul walked out. When they got close, Rex's eyes flashed with… lightning.
'Wait, wait, wait. Let's not fight yet! Ok, ok, if all of you calmly surrender and join our undead lord! You won't have to fight,' said the scrawny skeleton, panicking at Rex's ferociousness, hiding behind the ghoul he was riding more so.
Rex said nothing, but snorted and rode back. "Ranged troops fire, infantry charge!'
Rex commanded as he turned back with his mount growing wings and soaring through the air. The sky glowed brightly as the warriors used their innate abilities, on the undead.
Priests of the church of light held a holy book, and sang praises to their god, causing runes to appear on the air, blocking most attacks of the undead tide.
Rex in the sky charged his spear with lightning from his body, throwing it with his full force. It tore apart hundreds of undead in seconds, scorching them to ashes.
Rex jumped off his Pegasus, his lighting increasing his speed as he descended to the ground, killing more of undead foes. Rex at this moment, did not look like a mortal, but a god of lighting and war.
He threw blows, each emitting a surge of destructive lightning. Mowing down the undead tide.
With his hand stretched. The spear flew back to him and after Rex caught it, he jumped to the sky, landing like a bolt of lightning as he dug the spear into the ground, laying judgment on the unholy beings that opposed him.
Rex raised his head, looking toward a figure far away in the back. With a dash, he ran toward it, clearing his obstacles as he danced forward with his spear and lightning.
'I am the 15th regiment leader, and I will stop your descent,' said a giant four-handed skeleton, moving towards Rex in fast strides.
Lightning surged more in Rex's body as he dashed. Upon collision, the skeleton's body was burnt to ashes, spreading dust that covered Rex's figure, but did not stop him from going after his target.
With one last surge, Rex charged his body with full power, using his momentum to throw the spear in his hand.
The spear laid waste on its path. It was one of the strongest moves in Rex's arsenal. The figure it flew tried to catch the projectile, but the force blew it back, embedding itself into its chest. Rex smiled, excited at finally stopping this nightmare once and for all, but things were not so easy.
The black figure slowly revealed itself, with black armor decorated with purple lines and a huge sword that emitted undead qi.
