Cyrus was momentarily at a loss for how to answer the question.
Fortunately, a few police officers arrived just in time. They stepped in front of the reporters, and the leader of the group, holding a file, said, "The details of this matter are classified. You're not authorized to know them. If you have other questions, please ask about something else."
With the police intervening, the reporters had no choice but to change the subject.
"We've heard that your swordsmanship is exceptional. The students at West High call you the 'Legendary Sword Saint of the Swift Reaper.' Furthermore, there was a long sword left at the scene of the attack. Did you defeat the intruders with your sword?" one of the reporters asked eagerly.
"To be honest, I'm impressed that you managed to recite my nickname with such sincerity," Cyrus replied.
Seeing that Cyrus did not deny using his sword to defeat the intruders, the reporters' eyes lit up. This was a major story, and they quickly began probing for more information, much to Cyrus's annoyance.
"Sorry, I need to rest now," Cyrus said, clearly dismissing them.
"Are you sure you don't want to say more? We can offer a fee for your story."
The reporters were persistent, but when Cyrus remained silent, they had no choice but to leave. As they departed, each reporter handed Cyrus a business card. One of them whispered, "Mr. Cyrus, if you have any exclusive news, please consider us. Don't worry about the price."
Once the reporters had left, a police officer immediately locked the door behind them.
The lead officer sat in front of Cyrus, opening a file folder and taking out a stack of photos. "The person you killed was Masashi Makino, originally a construction worker from Osaka. According to his family, they lost contact with him after he moved to Tokyo. These photos show the damage left from your fight."
Cyrus took the photos, which depicted the aftermath of the battle with Parasite Beast A.
"It's clear that this level of destruction is beyond human capability. We also have autopsy photos that reveal his abnormal cranial structure. He was no longer human but had been possessed by a creature we've named a Parasite Beast. We came to ask how much you know about these creatures."
From the officer's words, it was clear that Parasite Beasts were now on the police's radar, and they had gathered substantial information.
"Sorry, I don't know much about them. Killing him was more luck than skill," Cyrus admitted, shaking his head.
"Actually, during your unconsciousness, we reviewed your X-rays and confirmed you're human. The wounds on the corpse match those from your sword. We're just curious, can humans really fight these creatures?" the officer inquired.
Cyrus smiled at the police's curiosity. "Although they're troublesome, Parasite Beasts are still parasites. Once their host's body is damaged, they die instantly."
"Alright, that's all we need to know. This card contains 1.3 million yen from official rewards and public donations. Take care of yourself. And remember, our conversation is confidential." With that, the officers left the room.
As they exited the hospital, a younger officer couldn't help but say, "Captain Fujita, there were clear signs of a third person at the scene. And I get the sense that this individual knows a lot about Parasite Beasts. Why don't we press him further?"
"Since he doesn't want to talk, we can't force him. Besides, with the media focused on him, mishandling the situation could lead to public controversy," Captain Fujita said as he opened the police car door and got in. "The priority now is to quickly distinguish between ordinary people and Parasite Beasts. I heard that a biology Ph.D. has been sent from headquarters. Hopefully, he can help with this issue."
...
Not long after the police left, the principal of West High, along with a group of teachers and students, came to visit Cyrus.
Cyrus handled the situation with ease, smiling as he accepted the gifts from the principal and expressed his gratitude.
"The school might be closed for a while due to these events. If classes resume, I'll have Ms. Taniyama inform you."
The principal didn't stay long; with the school's crisis, he was extremely busy.
"I'm relieved you're alright, Cyrus," Shinichi said after everyone else had left, staying behind.
"Other than having low blood sugar, everything else is normal," Cyrus replied, opening the gift package and eating the high-quality snacks. He could tell they were truly delicious, and the sugar made him feel revitalized.
"Would you like some?"
Cyrus offered the snack box to Shinichi.
Seeing Cyrus devouring the food, Shinichi swallowed hard and quickly declined, instead handing Cyrus a bottle of water he had fetched.
"I should be able to handle discharge procedures by tomorrow."
"By the way, why did you leave me to handle the media alone? You know how annoying those reporters can be," Cyrus said, finishing the bottle of water and leaning back with a satisfied look.
Shinichi felt a bit awkward, but Migi, who had emerged from Shinichi's hand, spoke up. "Shinichi and I aren't suited for media appearances at the moment. After all, Shinichi can't disguise himself as well as you, blending in with ordinary people."
"I'll take that as a compliment," Cyrus said, peeling an orange and enjoying the fruit. "What's the deal with Ryoji Taniyama? Why isn't she here with you today?"
"She must have had something come up unexpectedly. But she asked me to tell you that the remaining materials will be given to you at the usual place after you're discharged, as compensation for the trouble," Shinichi explained.
They chatted for a while longer.
Migi was curious about Cyrus's remarkable self-healing abilities, wondering if the Parasite Beast inside him had somehow assimilated his entire body. Otherwise, it was hard to explain how Cyrus managed to reattach his severed arm.
"Maybe it's just a unique talent. Who knows?" Cyrus shrugged, preferring to keep quiet rather than fabricate a story full of holes.
"Well, I'll take my leave now. Cyrus, take care of yourself."
