Chapter 53: The Fall of a Rival
Lydia Moore quickly pulled her hand back, her face slightly flushed as she awkwardly explained, "Uh... I bumped into something while cleaning the room. It's nothing serious, hehe." In truth, the injury was from a few days ago when she saved a little boy, but she didn't dare admit it. She knew all too well that if Aaron King found out she had risked her life to save someone from under the wheels of a car, he would loudly berate her for being a reckless idiot with no regard for her safety.
Aaron King, assuming her discomfort was due to him grabbing her arm, didn't think much of it. But he couldn't help reminding her in his own unique way, "You need to get better soon. I don't want an assistant with only one arm." With that, he casually handed her a small, elegantly green box, his tone slightly smug as he said, "This was a gift from the brand. I have no use for it, so I'm giving it to you. After all, you're pretty pitiful." At that moment, he seemed like a boy whose every emotion was written on his face, completely different from his usual cold and domineering self.
The box's light silvery-green packaging was adorned with delicate, unique floral patterns. The fresh and soft design was instantly captivating, and the "delarbreeze" logo on top highlighted its high-end nature. Was this the "Breeze" perfume that Aaron King was about to endorse? Such an expensive item—how could he just give it to her like that? Lydia Moore was stunned.
Though it was a gift from the brand, it hadn't yet hit the market, and its price was well over ten thousand dollars. No matter how tempting it was, she couldn't possibly accept it. "I'm sorry, but this is too expensive. I can't accept it," she instinctively tried to return it.
From the beginning, Bella Rose had found it odd. When the brand initially presented the perfume to Aaron King, he had declined without a second thought. So why had he turned around and taken it? As it turned out, it was for her. And Aaron King had ignored her presence because of this woman. Bella Rose's anger simmered beneath her composed exterior. But, ever the master at hiding her true feelings in public, she maintained her smile and softly encouraged, "This is Aaron King's gift to you. If you don't accept it, he'll be upset." Her jet-black eyes exuded a gentle charm, but deep within, there was a barely perceptible shadow.
For the first time in his life, he had been rejected by a girl, and not just any girl—a plain one at that! Aaron King felt utterly humiliated. His face darkened as he shoved the perfume back into her hands, saying with a stern tone, "What I give is never taken back. If you don't want it, just throw it away. I'm going to change now, you idiot!"
Feeling as though he had been rejected again, Aaron King turned and walked away, muttering angrily to himself, "Stupid idiot who knows nothing, so annoying!" He shouldn't have been so kind as to give her the perfume. Not only had he been inconvenienced by carrying it around, but she had also rejected him in front of so many people—how embarrassing! The more he thought about it, the more unjustly he felt, leading him to angrily kick the chair in front of him.
"Bang!" The sound of the chair toppling over drew curious glances from others around them.
"What are you looking at? The chair was in my way!" Aaron King barked, his face a mask of fury. The innocent staff quickly lowered their heads, not daring to meet his gaze.
Could his violent outburst be because he was angry? He really was quite domineering! Lydia Moore sighed, frowning. To prevent him from doing anything else irrational, she reluctantly tucked the perfume into her bag. As she turned, she met the icy gaze of deep black eyes. Lydia Moore froze, realizing that the previously sweet and gentle Bella Rose was now glaring at her coldly.
Before she could react, Bella Rose lifted her chin haughtily and strode toward her. As she passed by, she intentionally bumped into Lydia's injured left arm. Lydia staggered back a step, staring in disbelief at Bella's delicate, retreating figure. She must be upset because of Aaron King, Lydia Moore sighed inwardly. It seemed that making friends with the women around him would be nearly impossible.
Seeing that the male and female leads of the promotional shoot were both on set, the crew members dispersed to their respective stations, making the final preparations for the shoot. The photographer, with medium-length hair tied back, meticulously adjusted his camera, while Aaron King, now dressed in his costume, casually flipped through some documents as a stylist worked on his hair. Bella Rose, looking stunning, sat in a chair getting her makeup done. Everything was proceeding smoothly.
It wasn't long before the studio door swung open, and a middle-aged man with a calm demeanor and upright posture strode in, followed closely by a young assistant. The staff on set quickly greeted him with respect, "Mr. Taylor—" James Taylor nodded slightly, his demeanor reserved but courteous.
Wasn't that the speeding driver? So he's the one in charge of Delar's advertising? Lydia Moore furrowed her brows lightly, surprised by the coincidence, though it didn't leave a significant impression on her.
Bella Rose had heard before the shoot that Delar had spent a fortune to bring in the company's chief producer, James Taylor, to oversee the entire process. Thinking that building a good relationship with him might lead to more opportunities to shoot Delar ads in the future, Bella Rose quickly stood up, smoothing out her lace dress, and walked toward James Taylor with the grace of a princess. "Mr. Taylor, it's an honor to finally meet you," she said, deliberately flattering him. "I've always looked forward to meeting you, and I'm so fortunate to have the opportunity today." Her gem-like black eyes sparkled, her smile flawlessly charming, drawing people into her beauty.
However, to James Taylor, while Bella Rose was indeed beautiful, her pure demeanor was clearly the result of careful crafting, lacking the natural freshness that "Breeze" sought to convey. With his keen insight into people, he easily saw through her not-so-innocent intentions, so he merely responded curtly, "Hmm, just focus on the shoot."
As he turned his face away, he caught sight of the girl he had encountered on the road the other day. Though he didn't know why she was here, he couldn't help but think of her words, "Life only happens once," and found himself smiling at her.
To Bella Rose, however, that smile was glaringly offensive. She clenched her fists tightly, suppressing the urge to strangle Lydia Moore. She couldn't understand why this utterly ordinary ugly duckling would receive James Taylor's smile, while her own warm greeting had been met with indifference.
Noticing that James Taylor was smiling at her, Lydia Moore quickly returned a polite smile appropriate for someone her senior. But as soon as she met Bella Rose's envious and resentful gaze, her smile froze, and she quickly looked away, coughing lightly and silently lamenting her fate of always being disliked by beautiful women.
Ten minutes later, the shoot officially began. The flashlights illuminated the strikingly beautiful couple in front of the blue screen, and it seemed as though everyone's attention was instantly captivated by the dazzling brilliance they radiated.
