Chương 16: Reaching the capital
[1 week later]
I woke up, on a shaky carriage as it rattled along moving through the poorly paved road.
'Damn, can't they get good roads even this close to the capital!? If not for my magic items I would be sore all over' Satoru thought, waking up from his nap.
"Ah, so you've woken up, great warrior, and right on time too. We are close to the capital now, you can even see it if you look out."
The voice belonged to the man I had been travelling with, an influential merchant to be exact. He was shipping goods from E-rantel to the capital. Apparently he was carrying goods meant for high nobility or something.
Taking his advice I looked out, to find the outline of a european style city, with a circular outline protected by thick walls, and at its centre, a massive palace. The sky was pure blue, as the sun shined from above.
'Man, I used to think the concrete jungles weren't that bad, but this view blows everything in my old world out of the water..'
There was something about the architecture of this world. Just the best views, be it E-rantel or . here. Even from here, it looked like a high quality PC wallpaper.
If you're wondering how I got here, after I 'borrowed' a horse from E-rantel I made my way towards the capital using a copy of the man I received as a perk of becoming an adventurer. On the way I saw this caravan being attacked by some monsters and decided to step-in.
Apparently it was a type of monster that only mithril rank adventurers could fight, so the caravan with its gold rank adventurers were extremely unprepared for that and would have died without my help. Hell, half the party did die as of the 7-member party, only the archer, assassin and monk remained. The others had all died.
As a thanks, the merchant, whose name was Myurro, told me that he would take care of my meals and my transport for the rest of the trip. Or atleast, that's what he told me. The sly fucker probably wanted to use me for security, and although that downright pissed me off, I could let it slide, after all, it was a pretty sweet deal even with that, considering I couldn't cook worth shit.
"But still, how come you didn't pay more for security? Considering the fact that you deal mainly with nobles, you should have the money for it. You could have hired better adventurers."
"Oh warrior-dono, how I lament that decision now. But this incident is truly unprecedented, a pack of giant sabre wolves should never be around the outskirts of the forest. Usually, a silver rank party is enough for most caravans using this route. I took more precautions because my goods were very valuable, even by my standards."
"Is that so? Well, you survived so I guess all's well that ends well"
"Yes warrior-dono. And I have you to thank for it. By the way, are you sure you do not wish to join my crew? I could use your talents, and I'd pay well for it."
"No thank you. Your help thus far has been enough."
"That's a shame. We shall reach right after noon so please, you are free to rest a bit more." Myurro recommended.
"I am fine, instead please let me know if you have some interesting news about the capital."
"Why yes, I heard a rumour recently that an orichalcum ranked party, which was primarily stationed in the capital, was wiped out during a quest near Re-Beauleuro, a city in the north. Other than that, princess renner has apparently brought in a new policy that frees up trade by allowing us to buy stalls in the central market on an hourly basis, instead of having to deal with the mess of permanent ownership. Truly, if you think about it, it's a revolutionary idea." he began to gush.
"Is that so? Good for her I guess." I stated.
'Princess Renner, was it? Man that bitch was the worst.'
As I remembered the steadfast rule of 'don't stick your dick in crazy' I couldn't help but have an aversion to that woman.
"By the way Myurro, how much do you think I will get for the wolf carcasses?"
"Oh those, well they should fetch a good sum, maybe 4 gold. But the more important reward will be the fact that you will probably get promoted to at least platinum rank, if not even Mithril. Of course, I shall vouch for you, so mithril is most likely."
"Is that so? I guess third highest is an ok start."
"OK?! With all due respect warrior-dono, mithril rank is the third most prestigious rank in the entire organisation! At that rank, you can become a guild official when you retire. At that rank you have the salary of a government official, and even the nobles start offering you to work under them!"
"Ah- was that how it was. Well, good to know."
"Warrior-dono, will you be in the capital for long, or would you be headed somewhere else shortly."
"Ah, I'm here for a good bit, perhaps a month. I might have to leave for a bit during the middle though." I said, remembering the entire incident with shalltear. Upon her brainwashing, I would probably be asked to return to Nazarick as well.
Speaking of which, I wonder if I should interfere when she gets brainwashed. According to what I've heard of my own flavour text, a world item was used in my making. That should make me immune to the effects of the World item the theocracy uses. But should I interfere with the plot? I mean, Ainz kills shalltear and she gets resurrected without any consequences anyways, so it should be all good. But it would be safer if we got rid of the black scripture. Hmm… it would be more interesting to fight shalltear myself, though that probably wouldn't happen. I guess I'll let it be for now, I've got plenty of time to think about it.
"Warrior-dono, shall I interest you in stopping for a quick meal?" Myurro spoke up, interrupting my thoughts.
"Sure! I was getting hungry as well."
