Chương 25: No one is different

**Boom!**

Without hesitation, the soldier raised his Barrett rifle and fired a shot at Kami.

**Clang!**

A brilliant flash of sword light illuminated the surrounding area. In an instant, the massive bullet from the Barrett was sliced clean in half, its halves embedding deep into the snow-covered ground.

Kami's expression grew cold as her sharp gaze fixed on the soldier. The moment he drew his sword, her figure vanished without a trace.

The air itself seemed to freeze, and a powerful sword intent reverberated through the battlefield. The surrounding blades vibrated, and even the wind and snow seemed to halt, caught in the grip of Kami's overwhelming presence.

Mossen, riding his lion, glanced at his trembling sword with surprise in his eyes. He hadn't anticipated that this young woman's sword intent could affect his own weapon so profoundly.

As the sword light dissipated, Kami looked down at the soldier lying at her feet. Her voice was cold as she asked, "Who are you?"

Blood poured from the soldier's hands and feet, staining the snow beneath him. His broken sword lay next to his head, and his body spasmed uncontrollably.

All the arrogance he had once exuded had been crushed by Kami's absolute strength. He could only let out a soft groan in response, unable to answer her.

The extraordinary individuals watching this scene admired Kami in silence. She was the eldest daughter of the Will family—a 23-year-old swordsman at the top of her game, a genius hailed throughout the Federation.

Mossen's magic lion came to a halt, and as he prepared to speak, Kami's cold voice cut through the air. "Ernado, make him speak."

"I understand." Ernado nodded, and an eerie surge of magical energy rippled through the air. A magic inscription descended from above, pressing down onto the soldier's body.

The spell [Mind Control] began to take hold.

Kami's voice rang out again, sharp and unyielding. "Who are you?"

The soldier, no longer trembling, stared blankly into the distance. His eyes were hollow. At the sound of Kami's question, his lips parted and, in a mechanical tone, he replied, "Saier, level 30 swordsman from the capital."

Before anyone could react, a swirling black aura erupted from his body, and he died instantly.

Kami, Ernado, and Mossen froze for a moment, a sense of unease settling over them. *Annihilation of the soul?* The technique was unmistakable. It was a restriction method used by powerful beings, a form of control that, when triggered, completely obliterated the soul.

Though cruel and widely banned by the federal government, it was a method still sometimes employed by those in the darkest corners of society. Such practices, if discovered, would lead to the extermination of entire clans.

It was a tool to enslave and crush civilian geniuses before they could rise to power.

The three of them exchanged grim glances. The use of this method suggested the presence of an evil organization operating in the shadows—one with far-reaching influence and cruel practices.

Mossen's gaze turned sharp as he surveyed the surroundings. "All soldiers, self-check immediately. Holy Water encryption order!"

The two silver orc brothers behind him exchanged a glance, then drew out their walkie-talkies to issue the orders.

Through the blizzard, the soldiers swiftly followed their commands, each one dipping their hands into holy water—originally used for verifying civilians—under the watchful eye of their squad leaders.

Squad captains gave complex orders, their voices steady despite the chill in the air. The soldiers responded fluently, accustomed to the rigorous drills.

Especially for the soldiers of the Wucheng Army, whose duty as city defenders made infiltration prevention their top priority.

In this age of advanced technology, orders were relayed quickly. The holy water test for more than 50,000 soldiers, including members of the Will family and the Apocalypse Legion, proceeded with remarkable speed. The icy chill from the holy water made the soldiers shudder.

Garrett and Magath exchanged tense glances. They knew what the results of this test implied.

Garrett, as the elder brother, stepped forward and said, his voice strained, "Captain of the Legion, everyone's clean. No anomalies."

**Buzz~**

The sharp, crackling sound of magical energy rippling through the air seemed to calm the raging snowstorm for a moment. Mossen looked up, his eyes gleaming with murderous intent, unfazed by the intense cold.

The infiltration had reached deep into the Will family. The soldiers on the periphery were still clear, but the central core… that was a different matter entirely. This was no mere coincidence.

Though they couldn't yet pinpoint the method of enslavement, the presence of a hidden hand manipulating events was undeniable.

Anyone who dared to break the law in this city would be swiftly hunted down.

"Miss, no abnormalities were detected. There are no signs of disguise or transformation. It could very well be Captain Saier himself."

A thin soldier, standing close to Kami, spoke in a quiet, respectful tone.

Kami's eyes darkened. She asked coldly, "Who was the one who died just now?"

The soldier lowered his head. "He was one of ours, but he wasn't injured by the sword. Initial investigation suggests he was poisoned or cursed. He's unconscious, not dead yet. As for the Barrett, it was supposed to target a spy, but... it ended up pointing to you instead. It's possible it was just a coincidence."

Kami's mind briefly flashed to a young man with a smile—but she quickly dismissed the thought.

Bai Yi had no motive for such a thing. He was too well-known, his future too bright, and his rise too certain. There was no reason for him to take such a risk.

**Boom!**

Kami's voice had barely finished when a familiar explosion echoed through the air, cutting her words short.

She and Mossen turned simultaneously, their gazes fixed on the edge of the area. A soldier, trembling with fear, had his gun pointed at a figure—an assassin holding a dagger, his eyes filled with dread.

The assassin, dressed all in white, seemed to melt into the swirling snow, his aura so perfectly concealed that only the keenest eyes would notice his presence.

And then, Kami realized with a shock: *Another peak Bronze-level assassin. Level 30.*

**Roar~**

A lion's roar rang out. Mossen, his eyes flashing with magic, leaped lightly from his mount, and in an instant, the massive sword at his back surged forward with terrifying speed.

With a swift motion, he gripped the hilt and stabbed downward.

The blade, half a meter wide, sank deep into the snow, but the assassin had vanished before it could strike.

Mossen turned his gaze to the left, spotting a wooden house in the distance. The magical fluctuations just now had suggested the presence of a teleportation array beneath the structure.

He raised his eyes again, scanning the sky. He felt the unmistakable sensation of being watched—yet the appearance of these assassins had forced him to push that feeling aside.

Mossen gestured toward the house. In response, thirty soldiers raised their Barretts, followed by a dozen mages. They moved steadily, pressing toward the wooden structure.

At the same time, Mossen turned to the soldier who had been on the verge of death. "Tell me how you detected the assassin."

The soldier, his body no longer trembling, straightened. Fear of death could not stop him from following the order—this was his first military command since joining the Apocalypse Legion.

"My name is Tiny. I'm the captain of the Glimmer Squad. One minute ago, I sensed danger behind me. I turned to see a man charging toward me. Without hesitation, I followed the wartime protocol and launched my most violent attack against the unknown threat. That's my report."

Mossen nodded, his gaze turning upward once more. This mission had just grown far more complicated, with at least three factions involved.
