"I'm dying out here of anticipation." Christian called out to Nora, who was changing on the bedroom.
"I'll be out in a second! Perfection isn't fast." She shouted back. He knew she was nervous. Who wouldn't be? She was just a normal woman, living a normal life, about to go on a date with the king of England and the President and First Lady of the United States.
The door opened and when she was in his line of sight, Christian lost his breath. His heart pounded. The simple, black Armani Ruched dress in matte interlock that Raye had Derek pick up from a local boutique, fell just above her knees. The black heels she wore showcased her strong calves. Her hair was down and curled into beach waves and her makeup was simple, with just a black line above her eye, some mascara and a rich a red lipstick that made him want to devour her mouth. He felt his manhood stir and he knew he might not make it to dinner if he continued long in a room alone with her.
She looked at him nervously. "Do I look alright?" She said.
He then realized he had been standing there, saying nothing, during his internal admiration of her beauty. He cleared his throat.
"I am, I have no words to properly answer that. You are stunning." He said. She smiled and walked over to him.
"Something is off. Something is missing." He said, looking at her a little disappointedly.
"What is? Should I have bought spanx?" She said, holding her tummy in.
"Dear god, no. Never hide your curves. I adore them and find them… irresistibly sexy. No. Something else." He said. He handed her a box. She looked at him, surprised.
"Open it." He said.
She did as he asked and found a pair of earrings inside. Not just any earrings. Diamond stud earrings that had to be at least 5 carats each.
"Christian." She said, in shock.
"These are for you. You gave me a gift. Now I am giving you one." He said.
"I gave you a 300 dollar tie. These are… these are too much." She said.
"Not for you." He said, taking one out of the box and putting it in her ear. She put her hands over her mouth to cover the giant smile. He took her hands and put them in his.
"If I make you smile, don't hide it from me. I want to see it. I need to see it." He said. She nodded.
"I'm sorry." She said.
"Don't be." He said, putting the second one in her ear.
"There. Much better now. Perfect, actually. Are we ready?" He asked.
"Yes." She said with a big smile. He held out his arm, which she took, and they walked out of the room and to the car.
******************************
The car pulled up in front of the entrance to the White House. Christian could see her anxiety and placed his hand on top of hers.
"You are lovely. They are going to adore you just as much as I do." He said. She nodded.
Derek opened the door and a man greeted them.
"Right this way, your majesty." He said bowing. They were lead to the private, executive residence in the central building. A door to a parlor style living room opened and there the President and the First Lady stood, greeting them.
"Your majesty, we are so pleased that you accepted out invitation." The president said.
"An honor to be invited. President Nakamura, Mrs. Nakamura, this Nora Palmer." Christian said.
"Please, call me Afina." The First Lady said.
"It is an absolute pleasure and honor to meet you both. I am a huge supporter and cannot say enough about the work you have done to call out the big pharma cancer trade. You are both admired greatly, not only by myself but by so many suffering with this awful disease." Nora said. Christian watched her walk with them over to the couch and sit down, crossing her legs and maintaining a direct and confident posture. He was blown away by her professional etiquette and knowledge of their administration's policies. It was like she had done this her entire life. Gone was the nervous girl in the car. It was awe inspiring to watch.
"Dinner is served." A butler said.
"I hope you are hungry." Afina said.
"Famished." Nora said.
"Yes, ravenous." Christian said, slyly running his finger along her arm. He saw her body respond to him, shuddering as her breath caught.
They were lead into the dining room and were served a cuisine popular in the Maldives of Masroshi, Gulha, Bis Keemiya which are made of flour dough with filling of fish, onions, chillies and coconut either toasted or fried. Also, Rihaakuru and Fish curry. It was delicious. Nora talked about her business and why she started it. What she was offering to her clients.
"That is admirable, my dear. I am happy to hear that businesses like yours exist."
"Is that why His Majesty has invited you to the Cancer Awareness Charity gala tomorrow evening?" Afina asked.
Nora looked at Christian. "Yes. Of course. I am hoping to grow my outreach and possibly make this a not only a franchise, but a something that could and should be available to all cancer survivors, across the world, free of cost." Nora said, obviously trying to deflect the real reason. Christian placed his hand on hers under the table.
"And, I find her to be extraordinary company." Christian said. Nora looked at him and smiled.
"I can see why." President Nakamura said.
Christian felt that the more he learned about this woman, the more he would find he adored about her. And if he saw it, so would the world. He looked over at her, the candlelight and crystal lighting her face. She was like nothing he had ever seen before, like something he found, a painting at an estate sale under priced for a few dollars, and he was the one lucky enough to realize what it really was, a masterpiece, which ended up being a priceless treasure once appraised. He was the one to see it. And he felt so protective over it. Over her. He had the wildest idea and felt crazy for thinking it, but he did it anyway.
The president and First Lady asked if they were interested in an after dinner drink. They agreed and Christian excused himself to the restroom but not before grabbing a cocktail napkin and putting it in his pocket. He locked the bathroom door behind him and took out his pen. He wrote the insane idea on it and put it back in his pocket.
They sat down and had a drink, talking about the vast library at the White House and offering Nora a visit anytime she would like to read any of the books there. Nora picked up her drink from the table and noticed writing on the napkin underneath of it. She picked it up, without being noticed. Christian watched her eyes as she read it. "Open a franchise in London? Fully funded. Including room and board at largest house in town."
She looked over at him and smiled, unsure of what he was asking.
He nodded subtly. Her face turned serious and her eyes seemed to ask, "Are you sure?"
He nodded again and she let out a slight gasp, covering her mouth, trying not to draw attention to it.
He ran his fingers over her hand and wrote the letters I. Love. You. Along her skin. She didn't know what it was but he did, and soon, she would too.
