Pearl spent the next morning approving five new staff members for the house and security detail. Jim had done the work to get it all together. With her growing success paired with Rhys' family inheritance possibly coming out soon, they needed more people around.
"So you like the two new security guards ok?" Jim asked.
"Yes. And I like the idea of Mary coming on as a part time housekeeper and cook. Just try to keep it in your pants when you're on duty. And I threw in the yard guy just because I know you're getting sick of shoveling snow in between plowing." Pearl winked at him. He rolled his eyes. She was thankful for the help. She wouldn't have to shop or clean or cook if she don't want to. But she wanted to that day. Rhys was supposed to be home the following evening and she wanted to have everything perfect.
"Jim let's go shopping", she said.
"Oh no. I'm not going anywhere with you. I'll drive you but I'm staying in the car and and I'm not helping."
"Fine. Let's go."
They went to a small fresh market in town. She got the fish and other things for sushi. She decided to walk a little and stopped at a floral shop to buy him flowers. As she turned the corner out the shop, she ran smack into Maggie.
"Maggie! I didn't see you there, I'm so sorry. How are you?" She reached to hug her. Maggie smiled and hugged her back.
"It's so good to see you. I can't tell you how happy I was to hear that you ere engaged and are having so much success with your music."
"Thank you, are you still with Trigon?", Pearl asked.
"No. The old man had me fired after everything happened with you." She looked down. "I'm actually in town to finish the last project I was working on before I take my leave."
Pearl was elated to hear it. "Have you found anything yet?"
"Yeah. I found a job in Colorado. I interview next week. I'm not thrilled about relocating though."
Pearl remembered the night she risked her job to warn her about David. Maggie was an incredible person and Pearl couldn't believe her luck running into her. "Would you like to have lunch? I think I might have a better idea.", said as she smiled and pulled her into a restaurant across the street.
After lunch, she headed home to talk to Iris and get the house ready for Rhys. Iris had moved into the guesthouse and was looking for a place of her own.
"Iris, I need you to call our attorney. This is what I'll need" she said, handing her a list of questions "and also, I need you to set up some meetings for me."
Iris told her she'd be right on it and Pearl had the rest of the day to herself.
John texted her as she got out of the shower. "We are releasing "Our Autumn Moon" as the first single next week. We have begun advertising it. Just wanted to let you know." She thanked him and finished getting the house ready. There were candles everywhere and she had hired a masseuse to come in and give them both massages, so she set up and area in their living room for that. It was Iris' idea and she loved it, figuring he would need it after his long couple weeks of shooting.
Everything was perfect the following day. The house looked amazing and she had given everyone the evening off. He texted her and told her he should be home around 7. The masseuse was scheduled to be there at 9, which should give them enough time for dinner.
He walked in a little after 7 and saw what Pearl had set up. She saw his face light up and she walked to him, giving him a big hug. He had cut his hair shorter and looked amazing. She missed his smell, his skin, his eyes. "Welcome home, poo poo face, I've missed you."
"You have no idea." He said as he picked her up and carried her into the bedroom, leaving his bags by the door. They made love like it was their first time. Distance apart made the wanting so much stronger. They didn't even take the time to get their clothes completely off. After his climax, he collapsed onto her and held her. "I'm starving. What's for dinner?", He asked.
She smiled and pulled her panties on and her dress down. "I made you sushi!" And she led him into the kitchen.
He loved it and as they ate and drank wine, they talked about their weeks. His shoot went well and things were closing in on completion. She told him about the album and single release, Ian's coming around, and how the bookshop was going. She told him about the new staff on board. Then she told him about the company. "So there's nothing we can do? You just have to own this entire corporation now? There's a Seattle and Austin office as well as the one here's, that's insane.", Rhys said.
"I have a plan.", Pearl said, looking at him slyly.
"Oh yeah? I can't wait to hear this.", Rhys said, pouring another glass of wine.
"My ex husband called me the other day." Rhys' smile faded and he put his glass down. "Go on."
"He's broke and out of a job. He reached out because he saw on the news I was coming into some money. I offered him a part time position at the bookshop." Rhys let out a deep belly laugh. "Classic, Pearl. You are ruthless. It's sexy as hell."
She smiled.
"He has a business degree. It's what he does. He's an asshole and he treated me like shit but he's good at business. My plan is that if he does well and eats shit politely at the book shop for a little while, I'll hire him to manage the company here. And I ran into Maggie yesterday. The one I told you warned me about David, you remember? She's a trusted friend. If this goes well, I'm going to give her the entire run of all three locations. I'm going to allow her to make enough money to buy it out when the time comes."
Rhys looked at her. She wasn't just a caring woman, a sensitive writer and damn good lover. She was great person and brilliant strategist. After all the damage her ex husband did, she still wanted to help him. She could just tell him to fuck off but she didn't. And she wanted to help Maggie, too. He was so focused on protecting her and helping her he neglected to see how well she could help herself.
"I didn't think it possible, but I just fell harder and deeper in love with you.", he said, reaching for her hand.
She was expecting him to have a problem with Paul, but he didn't. He was confident enough to understand what she was doing. And seeing that, and all the trust he had in her, she loved him more, too.
The doorbell rang and Pearl ran to the door. She let the male masseuse in. "What is this?", Rhys asked.
"Get naked.", Pearl said.
He looked at her, puzzled. "Oh no. I'm not sharing you with anyone. Those days are long gone. I don't want to commit homicide seeing another man out his hands on you. No offense, my dude but we are a closed couple." Pearl laughed. The masseuse looked confused.
"Relax perv, he's here to put his hands on both of us. Just not like you're thinking." She led him to the living room. "You can set up your tables here, thanks."
Rhys looked at her. "Sorry. I didn't know."
"Did you really think I'd do something like that?", Pearl asked.
"I guess we are both a little damaged.", Rhys said.
Their massages were amazing. They sat in the hot tub after slamming a gallon of water and enjoyed the night. It was perfect.
"Tonight was amazing. Thank you, Pearl."
"You're welcome."
"All this was so incredible, I almost forgot that I have a surprise for you also", Rhys said, a mischievous smile forming on his face.
