I scan the crowd.
Everyone is intelligent enough to understand why I needed to call this meeting. Eyes scrutinize me. Obviously, they're judging what kind of person I am.
The first impression I make on them will be crucial. Whether I give the impression that I am strong or weak, someone will try to dispose of me. So what I have to do right now is leave an impression of quiet strength. Determination.
I steady myself.
"Today, Luna has lost a valuable leader. My great-granduncle has always said that he would leave one day. That day has arrived."
I pause to look around at my apprehensive audience.
"I have absolutely no experience in ruling a kingdom, much less leading one. Only by having your sincere help can we have a prosperous reign."
Some of them have started nodding their heads.
"As you know, I have been cursed never to see the light of my eighteenth birthday. I have three years at least to leave good memories. A good legacy."
My hands touch solid gold.
I didn't notice that I had been unconsciously walking over to the throne.
Oh well.
I sit down on it.
"Will you help me? Will you help Luna achieve heights she has never been to before? Will you help her people gain happiness? Will you serve her alongside me? I promise you, as queen, I will serve you, Luna, and her people. That is what a queen does."
The crowd bows down as one.
"Long live the Queen!"
Facing them all, I feel something stirring in my chest.
It feels warm.
