Chương 25: A personable guard

Upon seeing that their eyebrows lowered and pulled closer together as their lips tightened and curled inwards in anxiety. The guard that was with them jumped to the ground and dusted off his rear then clapped his hand together making the other guards cover their noses in an attempt to protect their noses from dust and dirt.

"What?" The personable guard looked at his fellow guards quizzically then dropped the question and violently dragged the little criminals off the wagon.

"Easy there Jasper, they're only kids." A middle-aged man rested his hand on the shoulder of the young lad who is called the flower boy amongst his comrades. Jasper glanced at the man's hand then shrugged it off.

"You know how underground people are like, this is nothing to them, unlike the fragile people here. Am I right kiddos?" Simon and Francis glared at him with a black face. He pressed his lips together and let go of them, leaving them at the center surrounded by the Grace guards like a tribe making a sacrifice.

One of the guards yelled from behind at Jasper in a mocking tone. "Aren't you a kid as well Jas?" Jasper clenched his jaw and forced an uneven smile when he saw the speaker's punchable face.

The middle-aged man placed his hand once again on his shoulder, Jasper screwed his face into a grimace that reminded the man of his young lord Ronan's irksome pug. He then slapped his hand and pointed at the duo sitting on the ground like statues.

"Senior George, what should we do with them again?"

Meanwhile, Francis and Simon were arguing in reverent whispers about how they could get out; yet, both of them understood there was no possible way out, and they refused to accept reality.

"We should detain them until Lord Grace returns, according to the captain." George patted Jasper on the back before helping Simon and Francis up.

"Jasper, Micheal, take them to the slammer and look after them, and wait for further orders." Jasper gave George a brief look before focusing on Micheal, who was the sarcastic speaker from before.

"But, senior! I'll come along with you!" Jasper scratched his head awkwardly as he saw George hit Micheal on the back and leave with the rest of the group.

Francis wrinkled his brows and neared towards Simon to whisper something. "What's a slammer?" Simon shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. "No idea. A place where you get slammed maybe?" Francis rolled his eyes and clenched his jaw upon hearing Simon's very own definition knowing that it probably meant something else.

Micheal walked past Jasper with a smug smirk and pulled Simon and Francis along. "You're gonna be fine flower boy~ We are lucky to be left behind, you know less work and all~" He unsheathed his sword for some reason but Jasper didn't bother to ask him.

Jasper flared his nostrils and cracked his stiff neck as a long tired sigh escaped his dried mouth. "I'm gonna cry...How could they leave me with that swine..." He mumbled to himself as he mopped behind Micheal with heavy legs and a squished expression. Suddenly Micheal pointed his sword's tip at Simon who looked indifferent to his situation, Jasper lifted his eyebrow and asked nonchalantly. "What are you doing?" He lowered Micheal's sword slowly with his gaze fixed at him.

"Why are you being so nosy, Jas? Tsk, I was simply fooling a little... After all, why do you care? Are they your brothers or your lovers?" Micheal drew his sword from his sheath and summoned many guards. While skipping towards Micheal, they knocked shoulders with Jasper. They talked between themselves before holding Simon and Francis down and tying them up individually.

"Look at this brat's face, you despicable pest, you dare to glare at me like that?" Micheal scoffed at Simon's darkened expression and roughly flicked Simon's forehead, jerking his head back an inch.

"What? Are you mad? Didn't your witless mother teach you to respect the older and higher than you?" Simon's jaw gritted in irritation as he curled his fists. When Micheal saw Simon's fists tense, he grinned and waved his hands at the other guards, motioning for Francis to be taken away.

Micheal drew closer and laughed in Simon's face; he clicked his tongue and backed away when Micheal's spit flew at him.

["What? What the devil is this moron laughing about? Should I just hit him now that he's saying something? That's the best...no, that's the only choice I have.]" Simon blankly stared at Micheal and tapped his feet on the cold floor.

["Ayy, he's so annoying; why does he have to make that face at me? Hmm...what happened to that broomstick...? The slammer, most likely..."]

"Are you attempting to sleep or zoning out? Ha! You underground rat should have rested instead of causing havoc!" Simon raised his brows and glanced across at Jasper to see whether he was the one who didn't understand what this moron was babbling about, but Jasper was already dozing off while standing.

Simon sighed and closed his eyes for a brief moment before looking at Micheal apathetically. "Come here." Micheal scoffed and neared. "What did you say?"

His head was thrown backward before he realized it, and he felt liquid streaming down the back of his throat. Blood spurted from his nose, giving him an instantaneous headache.

"Ugh! Why you..." Micheal winced, clutching his wounded nose. "I'm going to make you regret it! Ah! The bleeding won't stop, and I'm feeling dizzy as well! Jas! Jasper?!" Micheal swung around, shooting daggers at Simon. "Jasper Miller!!!" Jasper sprang awake, yawned, and wiped his eyes to get a better look at Micheal.

"Ooof...What happened to you?" Jasper clicked his tongue at Micheal then shook his head. "I will take care of this guy so you can go and rest for now." He grabbed Simon's hair and dragged Simon from his shoulder with his other hand.

Micheal gritted his teeth and pulled his sword out in flustration and pointed at Simon. "Wait I will have to teach this brat a lesson he wouldn't forget!"

Jasper nodded with a heavy sigh and a pale face. "Sure, do it when you're in your finest shape, and how about when he's in his worst?" He grinned bitterly, expecting Micheal to shut up and leave.

Jasper took a deep breath and asked a butler to take care of Micheal, who squinted at Simon and nodded reluctantly. He felt a tap on his shoulder, and as he turned around, he was met by a blow to the chin and a high kick on his shoulder, causing him to stumble several steps behind.

Jasper snapped his jaw and glared at Simon, who smiled back with an irritating grin. Simon spat up the rope fragments and untied the cuff on his wrists. Jasper brushed his hair back and approached Simon, his sword hilt clutched securely in his palm. Simon swallowed unconsciously while balling his fists, Jasper drew his sword, and the blade came to a halt just in front of Simon's vulnerable throat in a fraction of a second.

Simon laughed softly, his eyes wide open. "You surface guys are tough but are you as tough without your fancy weapons?" While nearing his blade, Jasper lifted his brow.

"I don't believe you're in a position to speak with me at this moment." Simon sneered at Jasper and quietly stretched his leg. As a hard blow landed on Jasper's shin, he bent and moved into an attack stance, ready to strike Simon.

Simon smiled once again, but before he could fight, something crashed against his skull. An excruciating agony shot through his head as his vision blurred; he gritted his teeth, but his grin stayed pasted on his face, causing Jasper to snicker.

Simon sank to his knees slowly, feeling the back of his skull, blood staining his fingers, and his eye nerves bursting out, filling his eyes with red webbing. He flashed his eyes from left to right, then tilted his head slightly to see who was behind him, but all he saw were a pair of slim pale legs and a flowy white nightgown, and he passed out. The person dropped the remains of the feeble brick on the ground and dusted the crumbs off.

"Are you all right?" The person in the nightgown approached Jasper, who just took a long breath and unconsciously stroked his bruised chin before sheathing his sword and picking Simon off his shoulder, and dropping him on the ground.

"My lady, I'm perfectly all right. I'm concerned as to why you're out this late." The same individual knelt down and poked Simon on the cheek while stealing looks at Jasper, oblivious to his query.

"What went wrong? Are you in pain?" Jasper bowed his head and took Simon in his other hand once again.

"Nothing like that, my lady, I'll take care of him right away. It's freezing outside, so you should go inside." She stood up quickly, nodding slightly. "Is this the same person that beat up my brother?" She asked tentatively, pushing her drab blond hair behind her ears that had been blasted at her face by a sudden gust of wind.

"That's correct, lady doesn't need to worry as long as he is under our watch." She tightly held her arms as another violent gust of wind made her skin crawl. "Darn this wind!" She hissed under her breath.

"It's cold... " She intentionally said it out loud. Jasper turned around and rolled his eyes while talking to himself internally.

["wHy Are YOu OUtsiDE iF yoU'RE colD?! MEee LadY!?"] He shook his head to himself and turned back in her direction to see her blushing and fixing her nightgown.

He sighed in his lowest voice and dragged Simon and called for a maid to escort the lady to her room.

["WhY whERe suCh THiN ClotheS If iT's cOLd And YoU Are GOing OutsIde?! It'S NOt lIke SHe Didn't KnoW IT's WinteR! Whatever...why is this guy so heavy?"] He clicked his tongue and walked towards the slammer. He called a doctor over and made him bandage Simon up then threw him in one of the cells.

He sighed and returned his gaze to the slammer while rubbing his shoulder.

["I've seen his face someplace, not his exact face, but an older version...no way, that was long ago, I suppose that guy was only a baby at the time, but wait...was he..."] While staring at the night's gorgeous sky, he furrowed his brows, yawned, and slid his hands into his pockets. "I'm exhausted..."

On the other side...

Simon barely gaped his eyes and remembered Jasper's face, but it wasn't only his handsome face that he recalled, but his terrified and injured face that was concealed deep down in a dreadful memory.
