Ragna stood outside of the academy gates, looking up into the sky. He didn't have anything with him, since he didn't own anything, except for his memories and his communicator, of course.
He had a lot of things to do now, but there were also a few he wanted to do for his own personal life. He hadn't seen his parents for a very long time. He was accustomed to not seeing them for long periods, because of their work, but not for over a year. And that year had felt like a lifetime, at least for him.
So, he decided to go home.
'...How do I get home ? I have no money for a taxi and its pretty far. I mean, I could just call them but I don't want to wait for a hour till they arrive.'
He sighed before starting to walk on the side of the street.
'This is going to be a long walk'
After crossing a large bridge, the city stretched out before him. Tall skyscrapers stood proudly and everything was lively. The air was crisp with street food and the voice of the people he passed by hummed in the background.
'At least it's peaceful here. Kinda feels weird tho, after almost spending a year in the Dream Realm.'
But before he could really appreciate the nice atmosphere, his and everyones communicator around him, suddenly started to ring, echoing throughout the full city.
Everyones heart dropped in that instant, since everyone knew what this meant. And just a second later, all of them had gotten the same message.
EMERGENCY ALERT
EMERGENCY ALERT
GATE ACTIVITY DETECTED IN YOUR PROXIMITY
ETA: 189 SECONDS
EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY!
'A gate ? Really ? A gate ?'
He started smiling nervously while sweat was rolling down his face he felt his back shivering slightly at the though of so many Nightmare Creatures comming to the real world and destroying everything in their way.
His body screamed at him to go, but his rational mind told him to stay. Ragna was sure that he could win, or atleast run away if things got dire. This was also his chance to test his new Aspect Ability and make his Name known, to get the attention of a Great Clan.
And of course, his duty as an Awakened also told him to protect the civilians.
He stared at the notification once more, seeing the time counter slowly tick down as the people around him ran away as fast as they could.
This wasn't the first time he had seen a notification like this, but it surely was the first one that affected him. Normally, you also received a notification way sooner before the gate appeared, giving everyone time to evacuate, but it seemed like this time it malfunctioned.
'Stupid Fated Attribute.'
There were only 120 seconds left, not giving him a lot of time to prepare.
But even with all of his confidence, there were things that worried him. Would he fight the gate off alone ? Would he be able to save everyone ? And was it really worth it, endangering himself ?
Ragna shook his head.
'No time nor need to think about that.'
He quickly clicked on the additional information, new sentences appearing on the screen of his communicator.
Attention ALL AWAKENED
REQUEST IMMEDIATELY ACTION
ATTENTION ALL AWAKENED
REQUEST IMMEDIATE …
Gate Category: 2 (91% probability), 3 (8% probability), HIGHER (undefined)
Strike Force ETA: 21 min, 25 sec.
19 minutes ? The gate will open in 2 minutes and then i need to fight it off for 19 minutes till the government forces would arrive ?
'Fucking hell, I didn't expect them to take so long.'
He of course had no real obligation to help the civilians and fight of the gate, but he wanted to, so he opened the map, quickly summoned all of his important memories and dashed off to where the gate way, thankfully being not to far away.
He now stood in the middle of the road, everything dead silence. In the middle was the gate, a orb that broke reality, tearing the space around it and shinning in a purple-bluish light.
There was no one around him, no civilian and no Awakened to fight with. He was completly alone, one man fighting off the gate.
Things looked more dire than he had anticipated, as his confidence slowly dwindled.
'I can't give up now. If things get bad, I can always just run away anyways. Im such a dumbass for even trying this,'
There were only a few seconds left before the gate would opened, and he would be burried in a huge amount pf Creatures.
An invisible shockwave suddenly tore through the region, shattering many windows of the houses all around him. Another thing was the call of the Gate, making him feel kinda dizzy, like he was getting sucked into it.
He resisted the desire to fall asleep, getting into a battle stance, as the gate finally opened.
He summoned Queen and Cera, who got send into his Core when he walked into the Gateway.
(Don't ask, just fight, we have no time.)
The gate started to widen, growing almost as tall as the building and as wide as the street. And so, the first Creature entered the real world through the gate.
Thankfully, it seemed like it was a category two gate, for now, so not impossible for him to beat, especially the first few waves, whoch would mostly consist of Dormant creatures, and some sprinkled in Awakened ones.
Two things could happen if Ragna reached the time when the second stage was nearing its end. It could either grow into a category three gate, which would mean certain death if he couldn't escape, or the gate guardian would come out, being atleast one Rank higher and having a random Class.
Anyways, the only thing he needed to think about now was to survive, and win.
The first few Creatures that stepped out looked very feline, possessing a agile body, claws and thick, black fur. Thankfully, they were all dormant, meaning that all of them started to shiver, the nobility attribute of Queen making them grow weaker.
But as quickly as they appeared they also dropped dead, as their heads got pierced by Ceras long raged attacks.
He ignored the notifications and dashed forward, Queen doing the same but to the other side.
The first thing he wanted to do, was test out his Crimson Link ability.
He concentrated a little bit of essence onto his finger tips, the sensation feeling pretty natural but not being perfected yet.
He dodged the claws of one of the Creatures and touched it, marking it with a red crest that had similar features of a Flower.
He then did the same, over and over again, linking all of the feline Creatures, and some awakened ones that just appeared together.
They were all connected by the crest, which was only visible to Ragna. Almost half of his essence was gone by now, and he had only connected around 70 of them. But for now, that was enough.
He then started holding his sword tighter, augmenting with everything he could before thrusting into the heart of one Creature.
And what happened next, was mindblowing.
He was bombarded with notifications, as 70 creatures all dropped dead, the blood filling up a good chunk of his Cores.
[You have slain …]
[You have slain …]
[You have slain …]
…
The sensation felt great, euphoric even, and what topped everything was the reserves of his essence. They had returned to the point they were before he linked all the Creatures, meaning that the Ability didn't waste his essence, but only used it once and then recalled it into his body.
He couldn't contain his grin, as he saw the corpses of all the dead Nightmare Creatures laying on the ground. He had gotten a great Aspect Ability, at least when it came to fighting against hordes of Nightmare Creatures. But the Ability would definitely also come in handy against different threats, like humans.
He looked over to Queen and Cera, seeing that they weren't really struggling, especially because the Creatures shook in fear in the face of Queen.
Maybe this wasn't going to be as bad as he thought it would, right ?
