Chương 34: Escape
In a busy street, two men in silver armour bound a man by chains and led him. One had a tag with the name Yaze while the other was Kappa. Many people looked strangely at the chained man with different expressions and concerns.
Some looked scornfully at him, while others were curious about his identity. Some did not bother looking their way at all. As they led him, Lin observed them while looking for his chance to escape. After using his element sense, Lin had already determined that they were both ranked 16 Quints.
Element sense allows you to scatter particles of your element to determine the ranks of others by using it to observe the density of the aura that surrounds them. Those lower ranked would only perceive those higher ranked as having enormous aura density but cannot determine their exact rank.
Those higher ranked can easily detect that of lower ranks nevertheless, those lower ranked can determine the rank of anyone five ranks above theirs. For Lin, however, this was different as he could determine the rank of anyone seven ranks above his.
He was deep in thought and calculating his escape as he proceeded. "I am confident I can defeat anyone one rank above mine, but fighting someone six ranks above mine might be too much. However, escaping is another thing. Though they are stronger than I am, slipping away under the right circumstance doesn't seem farfetched".
He looked towards a crowd and decided it was time to escape. He smirked and glanced at the two leading him on. "Xelen mentioned that not even some hectors could sense my aura with this hoodie, but these guys are just quints. Meaning, if I slip away, they will find it difficult to locate me with their element sense unless, of course, they see me".
As they led Lin along, two black orbs manifested in front of them and instantly exploded before they could react. It blew them away a few feet as black flames erupted midair. The entire area descended into chaos as people began to flee from the scene while the curious ones drew closer to watch.
As they raised their heads, they saw the chains binding Lin melted on the ground. They quickly scanned the area and saw a man in a yellow hoodie disappear into a crowd. "Quick after him", Yaze shouted and pointed in the direction Lin had fled. They jumped up and gave him a hot chase. "Out of the way, you dimwits", they shouted in frustration as they pushed through the crowd in pursuit of Lin.
Noticing they were city guards, people began to make way as they saw them approach. Lin heard loud noises from behind and noticed they were already after him. "As I thought. Escape wasn't going to be that easy. I must find a hiding place so they don't detect me." Lin pushed quickly through the crowd, but they were catching up to him as people moved out of the way of his pursuers to allow them to pass. Noting they might soon catch him, Lin jumped onto the roof of a nearby house and slid down to the other side.
"Who's that over there?" someone from the crowd shouted and pointed towards Lin's direction as she saw a yellow figure appear on the roof out of nowhere. The guards followed her finger and noticed him just as he slid away. "On the roof, quick", the guard shouted and jumped after him.
They landed in an empty alley, and Lin was nowhere to be found. They began looking desperately around for him but couldn't find any trace of him. There was nothing in the alley except a few crates. Lin sat in one of the crates peering at them through a little crack in the side.
"I know you here somewhere. Come out this instant, and we would pretend nothing has happened." Yaze declared as he walked towards the crates. "I can smell you, boy. Come out this instant", said Kappa as he walked in the opposite direction, scanning wildly for Lin. Though they did not know if he was there, their instincts told them he was somewhere around.
Yaze created a wind ball in his hand and announced, "Fine then, I would just blow everything here to bits". As he was about to fire the wind ball, a black fire orb suddenly shot in from an angle and hit Kappa out of nowhere. "Ugh", Taken unaware, Kappa was pushed back as the black fire latched onto him and continued to burn. He put it out, and they both turned towards the direction the fire orb came from and blasted water and air elemental powers in that direction.
Boom! The wind and water powers hit the ground in the alley, sending dust and debris everywhere. The windows of the buildings nearby shattered instantly. Using the commotion as cover, Lin slipped out of the crate and shot up towards the roof of another building to avoid being caught, since the alley was too long to run out from undetected. Unfortunately for him, that move was what they needed to get him, "Not so fast, you jerk", Yaze shouted and blasted him with a strong wind which sent him crashing through a nearby window.
Lin let out a muffled groan as pieces of shattered glass slashed his face leaving behind several cuts and a laceration on his cheek. Fresh blood flowed from his wound, but that was the least of his worries.
The room occupants glared at him and were about to attack, but he had already disappeared before they could do anything. Yaze and Kappa jumped through the window, and all occupants realizing they were city guards, pointed towards the door without hesitation. They ran out and almost missed him by a hair. He took the stairs and ran down very quickly.
"This low-rank scum thinks he can give us a tough time? Well, think again", Kappa said as they got to the corridor. He created a giant drill with his water elemental powers and slammed it into the ground.

He drilled a hole through five different levels downwards. They jumped through to the fifteenth floor of the thirty-storey from the twentieth floor just in time to catch Lin, who had just reached that floor. He was slammed through the ground by a powerful wind force.

He coughed up blood and crashed into the lower floor with a loud bang. Debris flew in every direction as he lay whimpering on the ground. "Done running yet?" Yaze asked as he stared down at him from the hole in the floor.
"Damn it! How'd I get myself into this pickle? These guys are difficult to deal with." Lin wrapped his entire being in black flame and pushed his powers to the limit. His power erupted like an active volcano. Black fire spread across several breadths of the floor and through the hole Yaze was staring.
"You still got some fight in you huh!" Kappa mocked and released volumes of water to counter the fire, which he easily did. Thick vapour filled the entire place, obscuring their view. Yaze immediately felt something was off and jumped down, but it was too late; Lin was gone.
"Shit, was that his plan all along? To get Kappa to quench his flames so he uses the vapour as cover to run. That damned mutt", Yaze gritted his teeth and slammed the wall with his fist creating several cracks in it. They searched the entire building and its surroundings for close to an hour, but they found no sign of Lin. He was gone.
