Lin had blood dribbling from his back, slowly soiling his battle gear. His gear ripped in the back, and his back had a deep wound. A bloodied metal bar protruded from the wall he slammed into. The ground suddenly began to shake, and a pillar of rock rose to smash Lin into the ground, but the shadows blocked the attack, yet, debris from the scattered rock sent Lin flying. Blood gushed from his mouth as he spiralled away like a rocket into the castle wall.
The ground tremored as he crashed through the shadows cushioning him before finally hitting a dilapidated wall of the castle. A dust cloud formed where he landed. More blood gushed from his mouth as he dropped to the ground without moving. His body ached all over, and he could not lift a muscle. "Wha…t just happened?" Lin gritted his teeth and rolled his eyes to look towards his attackers.
Three beings that looked like humans but were not; walked towards him. One was adorned in scale-looking crystals and had a crystal crown on its head. It had no face and crystal-like scales. The second was more human-like than the others. It had a face, but its lips looked cold as ice. It wore black obsidian armour and had pitch-black feathered wings. A metal staff floated in front of it. The last one looked like a rock man. It had one large eye on its face, but from its nose down, there was a covering. Its fingers were razor sharp.
As the three approached Lin, a familiar message popped up in his head.

<Number: 3>
<Element: Crystal, Metal, Rock>
Lin was shocked by the message he had just received. "Calamity beings? What are those? Why are they trying to kill me? And the shadows, were they protecting me just now?" Lin had nothing but confusion and many more questions.
"Hey, System, you have not been of much help to me; maybe you could help me with some information? System, what are calamity beings?" A sound that always annoyed him brought him joy this time.
<Notice>
<Calamity Beings are sentient beings that resided on the territories before man began to discover them. They were, however, faced with extinction and had to go into hibernation>
"So, where are they now?" there was, however, no answer to Lin's question. "Do I have to ask in a specific way?" he thought. "System, where are these beings now?"
<Notice>
<Calamity Beings whereabout unknown>
"Unknown? I have to add this to the list of things to search for. I need to know more about these beings."
Lin slowly pulled himself from the ground with blood trickling down his lips. His body ached, and he had to lean against a part of the wall to avoid falling over. He wiped his lips and looked towards the three approaching him. "So that is what calamity beings look like. What do I do now? Those guys should be as strong as whoever is controlling the shadows, as the shadows were able to defend against their attacks". Lin quickly grasped the situation and thought of ways to defend himself.
"Kid, you have to work with me if you want to keep your life", a voice suddenly whispered to Lin. He froze immediately hearing that. It was the same that spoke to him when he first arrived there. "If he is the one, then I have to test it for myself to see if he is worth giving a chance; if not, I would just kill him now".
"Thanks for saving me", Lin whispered. "Do not thank me. I am not doing it for you. If for any reason I realise saving you was a mistake, I will kill", it said, leaking murderous intent. Lin felt a chill run down his spine. "Did I offend this guy?"
"Those guys are dangerous, so you should be careful", it advised.
Lin raised his brows in confusion and exclaimed, "But I am much weaker than they are; how could I help in this battle? It is like putting an ant amid elephants".
"Even an ant as small as it is can bring down an elephant under the right circumstances. I would provide those circumstances for you. Though you might not be able to do much, if I am right about you, you should at least be able to distract them", Meanwhile, the calamity beings were approaching much faster than before. All the beasts which attacked Lin started giving off very dangerous auras and turned towards the three Calamity beings.
Lin pulled himself away from the wall as his power exploded like an erupting volcano. The heat of his flames and the power of his lightning were steadily rising, and soon, he was also giving off a dangerous aura; for someone his rank. His body felt like it would explode with the power building up within.
Up in the sky, the remnant will, in the form of a black wisp look keenly upon them. "Speak of the devil. It looks like they have finally found a way to return through. This wasn't what we expected. We estimated at least a few more months from now, but, it looks like we miscalculated. They showed up earlier than expected. I better send out the information before it's too late". It allowed a little piece of itself to float away into the clouds.
The calamity beings charged at Lin, but before they could get to him, an enormous shadow fist slammed the ground before them, causing them to retreat. "What are vile creatures from the past doing in the present? Surely you have not learned a lesson from your previous defeat", the wisp roared and took a humanoid shadow form. It landed by Lin and glared at the calamity beings with folded arms.
The crystal-wielding calamity beast turned towards the shadowy figure and addressed it. "I didn't think you would be the first person I met after so many years, Lord of the Shadowlands, the Shadow Emperor himself, Akrakus". Thunder resounded from the clouds above them the moment he uttered his name. "Surely that cannot be Akrakus, right? The man from the legends", Lin found it hard to believe what he heard. Questions popped up in his head, and he couldn't find answers to them.
"I do not appreciate my name being mentioned by vile creatures such as yourself", Akrakus announced as shadow claws clawed at the three, who blocked it with little effort. The calamity beings all laughed creepily, and the crystal-wielding calamity being said, "Do not get ahead of yourself, Shadow Emperor, you have grown weaker. As of now, you are not a threat to us with our combined might. You know very well who the actual threat here is".
"So, they see it too", Akrakus thought with a deep frown. He did not like where the conversation was going, "You see it too, don't you? That body and what lies within, waiting to be awoken." Lin was stupefied. He had no idea what was going on. "What the hell are these guys talking about, and why are they doing it so casually, as if they knew each other" Lin contemplated.
"Listen, kid, when the battle starts, don't forget you are just here as a distraction. Stay behind me and attack from a distance. You shouldn't be involved in this battle in the first place, but this is an opportunity to learn, so seize it. And remember, don't get in my way".
Akrakus turned to them with a smirk, "You are right, I may not be a threat to you right now, but you don't think I stayed here all these years waiting just to lose to you right? I have more than what it takes to hold you back, BEGONE, you vile creatures from the past".
A loud shrill resounded, and the shadowy figures across the land began to move. All the shadow beasts on the land roared to the sky and raced towards the calamity beings. "Watch and learn kiddo; this is what a battle between ranked Aces looks like". Suddenly, all the power Lin had gathered counted as nothing as compared to the others. The battle had already begun before he even noticed it. The disparity between them was overwhelming.
