Chương 47: A Realization
Lin briskly spread his element sense to observe the depth of the cave. He felt his element sense hit an impregnable space. A phenomenon that only occurs when there are high concentrations of aura density in one place. He felt a splitting headache as his mind was rocked by a repulsive force. Blood trickled from his nose and ears, and his eye turned bloodshot. He clutched his head and clenched his teeth to fight back the pain.
He swung onto the spear and scanned for Amina. "Damn it! Where is she? She is a rank 21, for goodness sake, how did she not notice it?" Black flames erupted as Lin dashed for Amina. Noticing him, Osayo, the wielder of the time element, confronted him, "Hey newbie, where have you…" Before he could finish, a glare from Lin made him shudder. Lin just dashed past him without a word.
"What was that just now?" Osayo wondered. "Did he just threaten me? There's something weird about that guy." He looked away and continued to fight the beasts. By then, Lin had already reached Anima, who stood arms folded and used her weapons to kill the beasts around, as none were strong enough to make her use her full strength.
"Captain!" Lin called out as he reached her. "We need to retreat right now otherwise, we would all be dead". Amina was taken aback, "What are you talking about?". Lin didn't have to answer her as the unmoving silver beast advanced towards them. Just a glance sent chills down her spine, "What the hell is that? How did I not notice a beast this strong until it showed itself?" She spread her element sense across the breadths of the chamber and just like Lin, blood trickled from her nose and ears, but not as severe as Lin's.
"What the? Only rank 20s and 21s behind that wall? But it looks like they are hibernating." She now realized that they didn't have the strength to repel the beasts in hiding. "If they awaken, it would be a disaster. Apart from myself and Nova, everyone here would be slaughtered." She clenched her teeth and yelled, "Fall back! Everyone, retreat right now! Nova, ice wall." Everyone was alarmed by the sudden change of orders, but they had to comply as the captain wouldn't joke with such an important matter. Everyone retreated to her side.
Nova's weapon disappeared, and he touched the ground. A mountain of ice several meters thick covered a portion of the chamber. The entire chamber became freezing cold. Everyone ran towards the back of the cave, but within a few breaths, a single claw mark appeared on the ice wall, shattering it instantly. Amina and Nova froze in their spots and looked back. The silver beasts moved towards them in a slow, daunting manner. The two captains' heart sank as they saw the beast approaching.
"Everyone, run!" Nova shouted and covered the place with ice again, but, like before, it was cut in a single hit. In an instant, Amina was in front of the beast with a fierce punch. The beast moved behind her, and her fist hit nothing. Moments later, claw marks appeared on her chest, and blood gushed from the wound. She coughed up blood and fell to her knees. "It's fast", she commented. Her eyes widened, and she moved away from where she was. The ground shattered, and claw marks appeared in it.
A mountain of ice rose around the silver beast. The beast flexed its muscles, and the ice shattered, its bits spreading across the chamber. Nova moved to Amina's side, and the two fiercely attacked the beast, which evaded them like it was nothing.
The others had run far ahead into a tunnel, but Lin stopped and looked back. "This feeling again? I feel like leaving now would be the worst decision I ever made. I have been feeling like this ever since I left that place."
"Hey, newbie!" Osayo called. "Go on without me. I have something I must do", Lin said and turned to leave. Osayo barred his way, "Do you not understand what is going on? The captain gave us an order and is risking her life to buy us some time. You must follow it. As simple as that."
"I need to hurry. What's with this guy?" Lin grunted and said, "Whatever I do or decide to do is none of your business. So, stay out of my way, please?" Lin said and pushed past him. "That damned mutt", Osayo spoke through his clenched teeth. <Strings of time: Freeze>. Lin was stopped in his tracks as a blue halo surrounded him. He couldn't move a single step. "Did he just time-freeze me?"
"Yu, pick him up and let's go", Osayo said and turned to leave. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. He may be a low rank, but underestimating him would be your biggest mistake." Yu walked away as he spoke.
"What? Yu, of all people? Just what happened when he went away with the captain?" Purple Prince wondered. Black flames burst forth from Lin and surrounded him like a tornado. The blue halo surrounding him corroded due to the properties of the flame.
"Is pissing people off the only thing you guys know how to do?" Lin demanded as he struggled to move his hands. Black lightning charged across his entire body, increasing the corrosiveness of the flame, and burning the blue halo away even faster.
"What the…?" Osayo gasped in shock. "Even though I only used little of my strength, to be able to break my skill as a low rank is impressive."
"Osayo, that's enough", Purple Prince rebuked. "Tsk!" Osayo turned around and left. "Sorry about him", Purple Prince apologized. "You can carry on."
"I assure you that debt would be repaid in full", Lin remarked and dashed off, disappearing from view in a few seconds. "I didn't take him for one to hold a grudge", Purple Prince commented as they ran towards the exit. "You guys pushed him too far", Dzifa seriously said. "First Yu, then the vice-captain, and now Osayo. And this is only his first day. I would be pissed too."
"Wait, what happened between him and Yu?" Purple Prince probed. "Nothing you should concern yourself with", Yu remarked and dashed ahead of them.
As Lin was about to enter the carven again, messages began to pop up in his head.

"Finally!" Lin exclaimed, then held his mouth shut immediately after. He stood at the entrance and peeped in. He audibly gasped after he looked in. He covered his mouth to prevent himself from screaming.
