Although the STR, or Strength, stat helped players to carry their weapons more easily, even so, tirelessly swinging a heavy weapon without even a second's rest for over an hour was enough for a normal person to have fallen helplessly to the ground in search of rest; not to mention doing so while constantly scanning the battlefield. Precisely for that reason, many weapons had an attribute requirement before they could be equipped.
For example, if a magic staff had a high Intelligence requirement before it could be equipped, this was because the power of that staff was quite high, so the player had to have a powerful mind or spirit to resist that power and the player's spirit was increased by raising the Intelligence stat.
The same was true for weapons such as swords or shields with high strength requirements to be wielded or lifted; if the player did not even have the necessary strength to equip them, then much less could he walk, run, or fight with them.
