Chapter 36. The Bug That Got Patched
When I was in the middle of investigating the source of that uneasy feeling previously.

After another three minutes passed, the [Scan] I left on that tree detected that feeling. The feeling of being observed by an extremely huge existence.

Available system function:
[Transfer]: used to transfer information(memory, knowledge, etc) or items from one place to another.
[Scan]: similar to the main system's [Scan] but weakened. The host may observe some things around the thing attached with the sub system through this function.
[Create]: used to create a shop which could create something by spending energy.
[Devour]: swallow things for points.
[Calculate]: calculate things, increase comprehension, learn and upgrade skills.
[Storage]: Store things in another space. Space granted to the sub system is not connected to other storage space and is taken from the main system's available storage space.
Example: currently hosts have 1000 cubic meters of space. Once you grant a sub system with 100 cubic meters space, your available space will decrease to 900 cubic meters. Once the sub system is destroyed, the storage space will return with items stored within that sub system's storage space destroyed.
Note 1: Through the main system, hosts may choose to block, weaken, or control a certain sub system's ability.
Note 2: The host may collect all, or a part of energies absorbed by the sub system.
Note 3: Host may upgrade the level of the sub system already attached to a certain thing without being nearby.
Note 4: the selected host for the sub system must be within the range of the main system's scan.

Reading his thoughts through [Anchor]'s shared sense. I feel relieved because Ren Qingquan only thought of how to use the new system function to cause chaos after hearing I started an experiment on my own. With everyone standing on top of the small boat, the boat began looking extremely cramped.
Jin Fushen smiled as he glanced at everyone standing nearby like sardines.
"We only need to fly for 10 minutes before arriving at the testing site. Please bear with it as this is the biggest boat I have."
Hearing Jin Fushen's explanation, everyone could only smile while being packed together like sardines. Soon after, they start talking among each other to relieve their boredom.

Those steles are engraved with symbols most likely related to the five elements consisting of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water at the center area. Meanwhile, there are also many unknown symbols surrounding the five elements and a huge circular dent on the bottom of that stele.
Seeing that elder, the surrounding people finally turned silent. Many of them even had a nervous expression as they looked at the stele those people brought.
Without any nonsense, that elder announced the start of the recruitment test.
"I will be the head examiner for this recruitment test. For the first test, everyone will separate into fifty lines and touch the stele one by one. After one hour, it is the turn of Ren Qingquan's group.
As the Third Princess stood at the front of their group, she was the first one to take the test.
Standing in front of the stele, the Third Princess placed her hand on it. Upon placing her hand, one of the peripheral symbols shone with a light cyan glow.
The examiner smiled and congratulated her.

Next, fatty Zhang touched the stele which made one of the center symbols shine with a red light.

Following both of them, that senior brother Ren Qingquan always forgot to ask the name of went forward to touch the stele.
This time, one of the peripheral symbols shone with a dark glow.
How a glow could have a dark color is beyond me. But it still glows with a dark color anyway.

After another hour, all fifty lines had already finished testing. On average, every person took less than 1 minute to finish the test. Among the close to ten thousand people previously. Only around one thousand could make the stele glow. And among those thousand, 90% of them make the stele glow with five colors which means they failed.
Seeing as the test is finished, Elder Guan spoke to the group of peoples. By using some sort of skills that causes the ambient energy around him to tremble, the word he spoke spread far and wide.
"The first test has been finished. Those who failed can return to the city. As for those who succeed, all of you will follow me toward the mountain!"
Listening to Elder Guan's words, those who failed went toward the city located nearby while looking dispirited.
Glancing at the slightly more than a hundred people remaining, Elder Guan said to them.
"I am busy and don't have time to wait for you guys to walk toward the next testing site. So, I will just pull all of you with me."
As elder Guan moved his hand in a pulling motion. From [Scan], the ambient energies gathered around all hundred people and made them float toward his direction. Once elder Guan started flying, everyone that floated behind him because of his power followed suit.
Arriving at the mountain with a flat peak, elder Guan dropped all of them at the foot of that mountain.
"All of you just need to use the step here and try to reach the top of that mountain. The test will last until night arrives. As long as you pass through the gate midway through the mountain, you will pass."
Upon finishing his word, elder Guan started flying to the top of that mountain.
Hearing Elder Guan's words, I am incredibly suspicious. The test is definitely not only about passing through the step to test their stamina. Otherwise, he could've just let those people walk here to test it.
Focusing my [Scan] toward those steps, I realized it is actually engraved with many extremely tiny runes. Searching for related information I stored, I found out those runes are actually a formation to generate illusion.
Due to insufficient information, I could only know those are illusion formations by checking the similarities to other illusion formations stored in my [Storage]. And couldn't specify what kind of effect those formations will achieve.
Remembering the information Ren Qingchen told their group about the possible test, I concluded this is most likely a formation used to test their will power. As for the specific, Ren Qingchen doesn't say about it and merely told them every sect has different means.
Returning my focus toward Ren Qingquan. The people around him, including Ren Qingchen and others quickly moved toward the steps upon hearing there is a time limit to the test.

Upon standing at the first step, I saw everyone froze on their step.

Thinking if this goes on, Ren Qingquan might fail this test. So, I decided to lend some help.
Preparing a new message I have just written. I sent it directly toward Ren Qingquan's mind using the connection we have.

Afterall, even someone as strong as elder Fengyun and that elder Guan that I had scanned previously doesn't have any item related to space.
I also have the idea to block the effect of that formation and release Ren Qingquan from the illusion. But after checking every available means I have, there is none that could achieve that result.

Listening to my explanation, Ren Qingquan tried to stretch his body to heal the sore muscle.
Thanks to Ren Qingquan's sore muscles which made him stand under the gate for a long time. I have time to scan the whole gate that is actually the core of the illusion formation.
With this, I already thoroughly scanned the illusion formation used in this test. It might not be useful in the future. But, it is good enough to fill the knowledge library in my [Storage].

Returning my focus to Ren Qingquan, He is currently standing nearby those cultivating elders while looking below toward the more than 100 people. On average, everyone there has reached the fifth step.

After pulling Third Princess by manipulating spirit qi, that elder starts to fly toward the direction of Pure Wave Sect.
With that female elders as the lead, the other eight elders beside elder Guan also left.
Two elders took two people with them, like a certain fat elder who took fatty Zhang and that senior brother. Including that female elder, three elders only took one person each. While four elders didn't take anyone with them.
In total, seven people got accepted as a disciple by those elders. Among those seven people, all of them come from Ren Qingquan's group that arrived at the cultivation world from the martial arts world.
That is right, all seven except for Ren Qingquan.
Looking at the familiar people around him being picked up by those elders, both Ren Qingquan and I could only stare as their figures slowly turned smaller.

Furthermore, although the size of this boat is bigger, its speed is actually not lower than Jin Fushen's boat.
10 minutes later, everyone arrived at a mountain range filled with bustling activity.
Stopping at an open space nearby a certain building, elder Guan spoke while pointing at it. "All of you just need to enter that building and register yourself, then you are already a new outer disciple of Pure Wave Sect."
Once everyone left his boat, elder Guan started to reduce its size until it resembled a miniature boat. After he is done, Elder Guan flies away and leaves everyone there.
Seeing as elder Guan left, everyone went toward the building he pointed before. Ren Qingquan also followed the group and went toward the building.
Walking to the front of that building, there is actually a huge sign with the word 'Miscellaneous Hall's Disciple Registration Office' written on it.
That sign is placed right above the front door of the building and is decorated with the engraving of two phoenix. The wood which is used to craft that sign seems to be extremely precious as I could sense a lot of energy emanating from it.
Just like usual, I used [Scan] and recorded that sign into [Storage].
Entering the building, there are five counters with a beautiful female cultivator manning it. Separating themselves into five groups, the previously one hundred person group turned into five twenty person groups.
Everyone's registration doesn't last long as they only need to touch a stone before receiving a small pouch and a set of uniforms.
Shortly, Qingquan's turn arrived. The female cultivator behind the counter asked him to place his hand on the stone as she repeated the word she told to every person before him.
"Please place your hand on this recording stone. It will extract some of your mental power and record its characteristics. Also, don't resist during the process otherwise the extraction may fail."
When Ren Qingquan placed his hand into that stone, I could feel the existence of that fluctuation capable of interfering with my [Scan] being pulled from Ren Qingquan toward the recording stone.
So, those fluctuations are called mental power? It is a pretty underwhelming name for something that could affect my [Scan].
Returning my attention to Ren Qingquan, I could see him turn slightly listless after having those mental energies extracted.
Scanning Ren Qingquan's body several times, I feel nothing wrong with it except for a little sign of fatigue. Just what the hell is that mental power?
I guess there are still a lot of things for me to learn.
Looking at Ren Qingquan's listless expression, the female cultivator continued while handing him a pouch and a set of uniforms. "Here is your uniform for the outer sect. Adding a simple house mark made of a triangle on top of a square on the system map, I sent a notification to Ren Qingquan.

When Ren Qingquan arrived near the residential area, I saw twenty people flocking around the gate, which borders the residential area to other areas.

From my [Scan], I could see the people within those groups separated into two with extremely contradictory expressions. Some of them have an angry look while the others have a cheerful look.
When Ren Qingquan arrived at the gate where those people gathered, I could hear one person screaming in an extremely loud voice. "Those who bet on this month's newcomer to reach before the sun rises, could you come to me while showing your tickets!"
It just struck me, those people are actually gambling!
Soon, that person who is most likely the bookmaker of this gambling event is surrounded by many people trying to trade their tickets for stones containing energies.
After several minutes passed, the commotion decreased as everyone had already exchanged their tickets for that stone.
Seeing Ren Qingquan standing nearby him, the bookmaker smiled at the confused Ren Qingquan. "Hello there, junior brother. You are pretty smart to actually find the location of the residential area so quickly and pass our Pure Wave Sect's tradition to not tell newcomers about it."

Answering his question, Ren Qingquan proceeds to tell that person how he found the map for Pure Wave Sect's outer sect in the guide book.
Hearing it, that bookmaker smiled before roaring once again at the top of his lungs. "Those who bet on the first newcomer to find out from the sect's guide could you come here!"
Once again, several people gathered around him and gave that bookmaker the ticket in exchange for some energy filled stone.
The bookmaker smiled sheepishly as he saw Ren Qingquan staring at him with a weird look.
"Hehehe, sorry about that. Anyway, junior brother, how about joining our game once you receive your monthly salary?"
Hearing their invitation, I am a bit concerned about Ren Qingquan gaining another bad habit like gambling. Luckily he shook his head and proceeded to pass through the gate while wearing a nervous expression.
Once he passed through the gate. I found out the reason Ren Qingquan quickly left that place from the thought he is having. 'Uwahh, they are pretty scary! I am quite bad at handling delinquents like people. Who would've guessed those kinds of people actually exist in the cultivation world?!'
Finally, entering the residential area consisting of rows of buildings with private yards, Ren Qingquan checked the number written on his identity jade and searched for a building with the same number.

Hearing that elder's words, he smiled as he said "Disciple Ren Qingchen greets master."
"Mmhm, good." At Ren Qingchen's greeting, the elder acknowledged it before continuing on to the next topic.
"Our Protector hall is one of the departments in the Pure Wave Sect. Unlike the punishment hall next door which enforces the sect's regulation, we dealt with outside threats that may endanger the sect. As a department that enters combat the most often, our method to raise a disciple is considered barbaric by others. So, I hope you will persevere until the end. Otherwise, I will kick you out myself."
Ren Qingchen can be seen nodding his head after hearing his new master's words. "Disciple understands."
That elder seems satisfied as the silhouette keeps on shaking before it slowly elongates upward, which probably means he stood up.
"I have high hopes for you. That coward Fengyun said you have incredible potential." After saying that word, Ren Qingchen's master left [Scan]'s detection range. Next, Ren Qingchen walked for several minutes before arriving at his residence to sleep.
As there is nothing else to see, I stopped looking at Ren Qingchen and focused my attention on the others from the Martial Arts World. Their situation is approximately the same. They are either in the middle of a disciple acceptance ceremony or on their way to their residence.
Then, I focused my attention on other new disciples and elders Ren Qingquan added. Because nothing important happened, I kept on switching my focus until I reached that Azure Emperor guy Ren Qingquan met before. Right now, he seems to be unconscious while being stuck in the middle of that emptiness with occasional light.
With nothing of note happening, I placed my attention and toward the cultivation method placed inside Ren Qingquan's pouch.

As for the part where he stopped at, it is where the energy circulation diagram is written. Which is indeed quite difficult to learn.
