Chương 1: 1. Until My Return

It was only a while ago... My life had been a mess of losses and failures; mostly caused by the deficiency of my mental prowess.

But who knew there'd ever be a time when I'd stand before an army, with the honest and unshakable intention of leading a victorious battle? That is if what was about to happen could even be considered a battle.

I heaved a deep sigh raising my already unsheathed blade. It gleamed in the sunlight that bathed the lush green plain before me, and its silver features glistened with ancient splendor.

Its obsidian-black hilt featured gems from faraway places—Violet and aquamarine being the most apparent colors among a few others.

Its two edges exuded intense sharpness; capable of dealing severe levels of damage. But what could one two-edged sword do against an army of seventy-thousand mounted individuals all rushing toward my position?

I stood on a rather small hill, but its elevated peak allowed me to see the incoming carpet of raging men. Each one of them was rumored to be a Mountain-stage expert.

'Truly an immense army,' I thought to myself, silently admiring the sheer aura that force carried.

That many surface-stage experts were indeed capable of wiping out kingdoms.

They were at the peak of the Earth-realm. The next stage being The Sky-realm. The gap between both realms quite literally being as wide as the sky and the earth.

Unfortunately for this army, I was one of those individuals wielding might in the sky-realm. One more breakthrough and my prowess would jump into the Heavenly realms. This would be my last battle before then.

As for now…

My countenance fell as conviction grew in my chest. This would be the last gift I'd give to those I loved before disappearing for who knew how long.

Energy rumbled forth from my core and my figure exploded with pure-white radiance, bathing a significant portion of the wide plain before me.

A heavy aura fell on the world before me, and huge fissures opened on the hill below my feet. Those cracks traveled downward till the very plain below saw similar fractures begin to spread in it.

My blade thrummed as its magical capacity saw an immense amount of energy flooding its insides.

I was going to try something that could only be considered outrageous, and even disrespectful for an army that size.

I breathed in, and whirlwinds directly formed; popping into existence sporadically. A windy mess unfolded in my sight.

The howls and roars of that manifestation caused my crimson hair to dance violently. It didn't matter, however.

The hill finally crumbled, turning into dust—The weight of my existence had been too much for it. I remained elevated, though.

It was normal for an individual my level to have obtained the 'Wings of the winds'.

I let out my breath once again and a new wave of chaos fell on the world around me, as a massive gust of wind raged forward, blowing away the green surface of the plain by digging several meters into its surface.

This gust of wind traveled at horrendous speeds, reaching the army in nearly an instant.

The flashing of multiple colors reached my starry eyes, at that point.

'Barriers,' I thought, admiring their level of preparation. They understood who their opponent was. Or maybe they had been readying those shields for a real army. No one ever said they'd have to go against a singular being.

Absurd.

My aura continued to suffer the world around me, but I made sure my influence didn't extend too far into surrounding regions.

In truth, my power could affect a continent with ease.

The seven colors of nature finally burst forth from my raised sword and a beam of light pierced the sky with a high-pitched screech to announce its tremendous power.

The high-pitched sound had ended up worsening the state of the world before me, as shockwaves of pure power unfolded around my figure.

My sword had grown heavy, so much so that I had to call upon my second arm to keep it raised.

At this point, the army had slowed down their approach, since the wind blast had ended up killing hundreds despite the high-level barriers.

It had not been anything empowered, though. Only that its scale had been terrible, to say the least.

"They are attacking," I muttered, sensing a massive movement of energy coming from that army. The intense pressure of their offensives could rival many experts in the sky-realm simply due to their number.

"There really is power in number," I almost chuckled, raising my head to see the tens of thousands of colorful attacks shooting forth from the army to travel in an arc all descending toward me.

My figure remained too bright to miss, and they were less than 10 kilometers from me.

The mighty roaring of that wave of attacks caused me to shake my head. The thought that each one of them could launch hundreds of the same attacks meant that the army was capable of hundreds of attacks on this same scale.

Were it not for my special existence confirming that I would be okay, even I would shiver at that great force.

The largest army in the whole continent with that type of power!

Unfortunately, as though a wall had been erected, those attacks crashed into the invisible barrier my existence naturally deployed. It was a passive ability that I could not interrupt.

Those attacks landed on the barrier and to the shock of those soldiers not one of their many thousands of attacks had been able to pierce it.

Truly amazing.

They prepared to launch another attack, and I let them.

In truth, I stalled. My sword still thrumming with a nearly unfathomable amount of energy bubbling within its material. It remained excited to unleash all of it, and for this reason, I waited. The battle would be over quickly if not.

With every wave of attacks, my existence pulled energy from my core to fix the damages that my passive barrier had suffered. I also could not stop this process.

If I could, I would have done so to at least let those men smile and feel gladness, even a tinge of hope.

'A pity,' I wondered.

It wasn't until the seventh wave that I decided my waiting was enough.

I adopted a simple stance and all the light I emitted vanished to give way to only pure focus. A focus I didn't need to achieve to deal with that army, but was something I instinctively did after years of honing my swordsman's skills.

The world fell silent for an instant, and that army could only fall into confusion.

I raised my sword until its hilt stood above my forehead, then performed a simple downward slash.

Nothing happened or seemed to happen. But the energy within my sword disappeared, as I had emptied its reserves in one go.

I clicked my tongue, although unsurprised. The world once again lagged as it failed to properly calibrate the immensity of the attack I had unleashed.

When it finally understood my power, the blue sky vanished! To be replaced with a starry night sky stretching as far as the eye could see. I watched with equal focus as that army and felt the world rumble when my slash finally materialized.

It was enormous.

Enormous did not quite explain how big what I had unleashed was. And I cringed at the thought of the destruction about to unfold.

My passive barrier condensed as my existence determined that was the right thing to do.

The army had not even been able to erect a barrier when my colorful offensive landed on them and the areas several miles in all directions.

The searing heat my attack naturally emitted had been the first thing to deal damage to the world. Still, when it made contact with the ground, it lit up the starry sky, and everything quickly grew blinding.

My thoughts were calm, even if everything around me was engulfed in that silver light. I remained untouched thanks to my barrier.

I shook my head and shot out of the affected area to streak towards the sky.

I pierced the illusion of the starry sky my slash had generated to gaze at the affected area from high up.

It took a long while for the effects of my offensive to die down, and the immense damage I had dealt to the world unfolded in my eyes.

I sighed. Never did I like seeing such displays of violence, but it was required.

I would go into seclusion soon, and I needed the rest of the world to stay away from my abode; the small nation that I have learned to call my home.

The rumors of a Sky-realm monster would spread throughout the continents, and they'd stay away.

"Those vile bastards deserve this much," I muttered as hate seeped out of my figure to unfold in a different type of pressure capable of affecting the world. I quickly put a stop to it, however. The deed was done.

I kicked the sky with my leg and shot out of that area, leaving behind a black smoking gash several miles in width, and several miles in depth. It looked like I had cracked the earth's upper crust open, like an abnormal gorge.

'I hope it doesn't take the world too long to fix that damage,' I thought, suddenly sad. But that would be the mark of my existence. The proof that my small nation was a force to be reckoned with. For now, that would do.

"Until my return."
