Chương 4: 4. Lizard and Level Up

'Analyse.' Zion quickly called the system as the lizard and him stared eachother down.

'A weak jaw? You want me to attack the one place that will tear my legs off?!' He grumbled at the system. As he watched the lizard in silence.

The lizard glanced down at the body of the mouse and snarled at me, opening its mouth wide before suddenly lunging at me.

I yelped and jumped out of its rang, causing it to snap its jaws shut on the mouses body, eating it in one bite.

'You stupid... that was my food!' Zion growled at the lizard and ran at it. As the lizard turned, wanting to bite him again, he quickly spun around and used his back legs to kick the jaw of the lizard as hard as he could.

There was a thump followed by a small crack sound as the lizard hissed in pain, taking a step away from me however, during the kick the lizard managed to graze my left hind leg with its teeth leaving a cut in my leg. I immediately looked at my HP and frowned.

'That small scratch took 5 of my health. Even just a graze dones half its attack.' He growled at the lizard as he adjusted his positioning. With his leg injured it was slightly weakened.

The lizard hissed at him as well, it still felt pain in its jaw from where the fox hit it which has made it slightly wary of him, however it still saw Zion as prey.

It lunged at Zion with another hiss and Zion had to quickly jump to the side. As the lizard again snapped its jaws down, Zion rushed up a nearby tree and looked down at the lizard.

He frowned at it, 'Its defence it twice as high as both my attacks so my attacks won't get through those scales...' He watched as the lizard hissed as it looked around, not knowing where he went.

'If I can't beat it head on... I'll need to defeat it another way...' He looked around then noticed a tree a few meters away from them that had a sharp branch low enough to the ground that if he timed it right, the lizards charge would probably end up hitting the branch.

'Let's hope that works.' He gulped nervously then jumped down. He moved to the tree and laid down, placing his bleeding leg out to look injured before he yipped loudly to get the lizards attention.

The lizard, hearing the yip turned around and spotted the injured fox. It hissed excitedly and rushed towards it, thinking it has got easy prey.

As it rushed forward, opening its mouth wide once again, Zion was waiting, watching it closely. 'Not yet... not yet...'

Once the lizard finally got close enough to the point it won't be able to stop in time, a smirk crossed his face then he studdenly stood up, then pushed as hard as he could off his hind legs, leaping up and over the lizard.

The lizard raised its head as it tried to snap at Zion as he went over its head and so didn't notice the sharp branch now pointed in its path.

With its momentum, it wasn't able to stop in time and so, ended up slamming straight onto the pointed branch which broke its scales and pierced through its throat.

The lizard let out a pained garbled snarl as it swung its claws and tail. After a few minutes, it's movements slowed down before finally it went still and let out a soft sounding sigh noise.

Zion watched it silently as it finally stopped moving then got surprised by a new system pop up.

'Shit... that just boosted me up 50 EXP. With the kill of the mouse earlier...' He smiled to himself as he quickly looked at his stats.

'Nice I levelled up. System, what level do I have to reach to get the first evolution?' He asked as he walked over to the lizards body.

'That's kind of quick... I expected like level 10 or something.' He thought as he reached the lizards body and paused, looking at it. He seemed thoughtful then tried to bite into the scales of the lizard.

He felt his teeth press into them but not pierce them. He clicked his tongue in annoyance, 'Damn it... Killed it but can't even eat it.' He sighed frowning at the lizard. But then he thought of something as he looked at where the stick stuck out.

'Wait... I wonder...' He moved to the tail of the lizard and started pulling, trying to pull it off the branch. After some effort he managed to drag it off and it hit the ground with a soft thump.

He looked at the holes in its throat where the scales were now broken. He smiled to himself, 'If I can't break the scales, then I bite what's already broken.'
