We were walking trough the cold hallways. I still had no idea where we were, since there were no windows. I was thinking that maybe we were underground, but that seemed a little bit too much.
"Where are we going now?"
"First I'll show you where your room is, then I'll take you to the training field."
"Training? What for?"
"Since we're going up against a really dangerous organisation, you have to know how to use a gun and you also need a good physical condition."
I felt betrayed and I wanted to go home. Why did I want answers? This was the only question I had on my mind.
After walking for like two minutes, we arrived. Shooting range, a fricking gym, running track. Everything you'd need.
"Just how big is this fricking place?"
"Bigger than you think, that's for sure. Anyway, from now on you'll train here. I'll assign someone to train you. Why don't you have a walk around for a few minutes and meanwhile I'll get someone."
I silently nodded. I guess she could read it on my face, not wanting to do any of this.
I started looking around the place. Some people were practicing here. They did know what they were doing. Gunshots, a lot of them, all of them hitting their target as close to the centre as possible. Others were training their muscles. Lifting weights like they were nothing.
"I wonder if I'll be able to do it like them."
I was getting fired up. At that point, I had already convinced myself that I needed to do all that.
A few more minutes have passed. I almost fell asleep on a bench, but I was woken up by Hikari.
"Wake up. Hey!"
"Yes, I'm awake, no need to shout. Did you bring someone to train me?"
"Well, bad news regarding that. There was no one available at the moment. Katsu, the one you saved, is still recovering. He'll train you when he's fully healed."
"So, what will I do until then?"
"I guess I'll have to train you. After all, you're pretty much my responsability, since I am the one who got you deeper in this mess."
Well wasn't I happy then. When I heard she'll be my trainer, I was so fired up that I wanted to do it non-stop.
"Wait...Do you know how to do all that? Like, isn't your job more on the technical side of things?"
"We have to be ready for both cases. Now then, are you ready to start?"
"I guess."
And that was how my hellish training began. First, she made me run around the track for like 100 loops. It might not seem like a lot, but keep in mind that one loop is equal to 100 metres. Then, I had one break, just ONE break, and it was like 3 minutes. Shortly after finishing my break, I had to hit the gym. She made me use every machine in there. I haven't even seen some of them anywhere before.
A few hours later, and I was half alive. At least the shooting range wasn't so tiring. I'd say that my aim was cancer, but cancer kills people. Anyway, I wanted to give up. My body couldn't take it.
"I...ugh... I'm giving up..."
"You can't give up now. First session is over. Now you have to keep going."
"I...I can't...my body...won't make it in one piece..."
"What would make you want to do it? All of this hellish training, what's one thing that'll make it worth it to you?"
I was able to finally catch my breath, but I was really exhausted.
"One thing worth it that I can get... nothing, at least for now."
"I remember something you told me when we first talked."
My face turned beet-red faster than I could blink.
"Why are you bringing that up now?"
I had forgotten about that, and a part of me wanted to die right then from embarrassment. You see, I wasn't exactly the extrovert type, so doing that I did then had always been just a dream.
"I'll make a deal with you. When you'll be able to ace your training, I'll go on a date with you."
"You mean it?"
"If you'll continue training, then yes."
I sprung back up on my legs, feeling nothing but the sheer happiness that had overwhelmed me.
"All right, time to rest now and I'll see you tomorrow."
I went straight to my room while I could still walk. My body was still tired as fuck.
