Jesper froze instantly. Had he counted wrong? His eyes snapped to the staff who looked equally shocked.
"That… I will never do that. Let me count the bags again." he bowed when she nodded. He hurriedly started counting them. His back was wet with cold sweat. But the fact that the amount of bags was correct, did not relieve him. He only looked further distorted. As he turned to look at Eve, he looked so pitiful that she felt bad for him, and for a second, she would let him go.
"The bags…" he struggled for words. "How less are they according to you?" he changed the words instantly when he felt Damien's eyes narrowing at him.
"Fourteen bags are less," she muttered with a frown. "I can ignore a few coins but 14 million gold coins in a large sum." her frown grew deeper and the man bit his lips.
