Chương 62: Greeters

Tianshi Xue wanted to press on his heels so Prince Qui would have to stop steering her in the hall, but she knew that she should not make a commotion or at least be suspicious.

Against her will, she plastered a smile on her face and nodded at the faces that she recognized. People had turned to look at them as they had entered, walking on the red carpet. It did not help that as soon as they crossed the threshold, someone announced to the whole room. "Prince Yang Qui and Princess Lin Yingyue are now entering the hall."

She had clutched on Prince Qui's arm for show and now she clutched it harder. "It would really help if you would slow down a little," she said through smiling lips.

"Well, if you want to stay in this hell longer then be my guest." He made a move to let her go but she dug her fingers on his arm.

"Don't you even dare leave me here."

"Now, you're getting clingy. Tsk, tsk, tsk. And you were the one who could not wait for a divorce," he whispered to her.

"Oh please, are you having fun with all the lies that you're telling yourself? I hate you to the last of my cells!"

"You're the one who's lying to herself," he teased.

Tianshi Xue was saved on having to think of a comeback because they finally reached the end of the carpet, which also meant that they were already in front of the other royals. They both faced the crowd that had already lined up to greet the newly wed couple.

There were about a hundred new faces that she saw. She had already seen about a thousand people ever since she had woken up in the body of the princess. All of the lined up guests smiled at them both and said very well wishes for their marriage. She always nervously chuckled at the comments that they should have plenty children, to which Prince Qui only laughed at.

After the tenth place in line, Tianshi Xue was already bored with their faces. They were all just saying the same things but none of them would be able to get her out of this hellhole anyway so what was the point? All of them handed over gifts which the guards took away to the back of the room.

With her boredom, she thought of herself as a thief of these visitors. She would give them a quick survey from head to toe and she would find the thing that she could possibly want to take. She saw expensive watches, filled with diamonds, necklaces and bracelets. Some of them even had gems on their teeth! Sometimes, it would be a string of pearls around the neck.

Oh that brooch looks ugly, she said in her mind while she was looking at the bejeweled owl on the older woman's collarbone. But it looked expensive so that would be the one that she would be taking.

Finally, a breath of fresh air when the person who stepped in front of them next was someone near their age. But there was something wrong with this pair.

"Hello, Princess Yingyue," said the smaller one with her black hair twisted into two buns on the nape of her neck. Her eyes looked like a snakes, like it was planning something mischievous. "It has been a while."

Tianshi Xue frowned. She could not determine what kind of look the woman was giving her. Was she and the princess mortal enemies? Why was she getting that vibe? Should her look mean something? She was not familiar with these two.

After a short pause with her silence, Prince Qui stepped in. "Apologies," he said. "The princess had a mild accident recently and it caused a slight damage to her memories."

Both of the ladies' mouth formed a perfect O. The smaller woman quickly bowed her head. "It is I who should apologize, Princess. I haven't heard the news."

"There's nothing to apologize for," she said, trying to speak princess as best that she could. "My accident had not been made public. It's alright to be tactless sometimes."

Prince Qui quickly nudged her with his elbow. She nudged back, harder. She was a princess and this girl was… who? The princess met a lot of people all the time, how could she come sauntering over here and assume that they had known each other deeply?

The smaller one bowed. "Apologies, Your Highness." Then she and her companion whisked themselves away.

Prince Qui held up a hand to stop the next visitor and turned to face Tianshi Xue.

"What were you thinking? That was a lady of one of our ally families," he scolded her as lowly as he could.

"She was trying to look so high and mighty. Shouldn't you scold her for making YOUR WIFE feel small?"

"You're a princess. One of your jobs is to make sure that our allies remain in their line and not kick them out of it."

"I'm not kicking them out of it!" she defended. "Aren't I keeping her in line by putting her in her place? I'm a princess and she dared look at me that way."

Prince Qui rolled his eyes. "When we're done saying hello to these assholes, you should apologize to her. The last thing we need is for her to cry to her father and result in an ally lost."

Tianshi Xue gritted her teeth. She wanted to bite the prince's head off—literally. But he already turned to the line of visitors and beckoned for the next greeters to come forward.

Guess she would just have to wait until they were alone.
