Chương 50: Digging your own grave
Everyone started chatting with each other. Some young misses started glaring at each other while puffing their chest arrogantly.
Every household young misses thought they would be chosen even if they don't get to be imperial princess they can still be a concubine. Every single one of them were excited to showcase their talent to attract the prince attention. Only Su Yuxin didn't bother.
She was still slouched on her seat as she would only open her eyes lazily to eat after Lu Xiu put a grape in front of her.
Then Lady Ling Mei clapped her hands to draw everyone attention back to her.
"As I have already told you what is this event about, we should not delay anymore and start the event."
Saying that she gestured the maid standing down in the podium to come up.
The maid came up and stood by Lady Ling side while holding a scroll.
Lady Ling took the scroll and opened it.
"This scroll has all different household young misses name written in it. I will call you all individually by an order to come up to the stage and perform your talent."
The scroll order was arranged by Imperial Concubine Nagong herself. As expected Su Yuxin name was at the top followed by Xue Xian.
Imperial concubine Nagong didn't wanted to give Su Yuxin a chance to cower away so she kept her name at first. When she becomes first candidate she would only humiliate herself and the next candidate after her will be able to shine brighter because when people start comparing her useless performance with the next candidate, it will be heaven and earth difference.
That's why she kept Xue Xian right after Su Yuxin. She wanted to make Su Yuxin a stepping stone for Xue Xian. A really cunning move.
But sadly for Imperial concubine Nagong the Su Yuxin present right now wasn't the same old naive , trash and talentless Su Yuxin. Rather it was Ju Ruyun, the infamous ghost talent lady who was perfect in everything she did.
Lady Ling eyes trembled as she went through the scroll as she hadn't seen the young miss of General Mansion, Su Yuxin in the event. She bit her lips and hesitantly looked at the crowd yet she couldn't find the young lady. She had no clue that the beautiful young lady that she locked her eyes with was the young lady of General Mansion.
"F-first is young lady of General Mansion, Su Yuxin."
Lady Ling said while stuttering.
Hearing the first contestant name, everyone started snickering with each other.
"Ehh,Su Yuxin is first. Isn't she a trash?"
One young miss said in a mocking tone.
"She will humiliate herself in the stage."
Another miss said with contempt.
"God is really blind letting a trash like her to have an engagement with his Highness Crown Prince Mu Yi."
Another miss exclaimed as she sighed.
Su Yuxin was blind ears to their comments. She wasn't a trash as they labeled her. Although they were bad mouthing about her, she won't step so low to their level just to shut them up. They were like dogs who only know how to bark but can't bite so why would she waste her time with them. And by showing her talent would she shut these lowly dogs. She silently stood up and walked towards the stage.
Lady Ling was shocked looking at the young beautiful lady walk towards the stage. Even her wildest dream she wouldn't have thought that this beautiful young lady was the trash miss of the general mansion.
'Who the hell said she is a trash? That hidden glint in her eyes clearly screams that she isn't a simple person but a danger that shouldn't be provoked unless you want a trip to under world.'
Lady Ling was silent in her deep thoughts.
Everyone else also had their eyes on Su Yuxin. She was beautifully bewitching, languid and wild. There was a hidden killing intent in her eyes that most people couldn't see.
The imperial hall was so silent that even a cricket chirping could be heard clear and loud.
Su Yuxin arrived at the stage and laughed. She bowed slightly at the audience.
"Greetings to everyone present in today's event. I am Su Yuxin the young miss of General Mansion also the first candidate to perform for you all. Are you all ready for my performance?"
Su Yuxin looked up and gave a slight smirk at the audience.
Everyone could feel shiver run down their spine.
Without giving them a time to response, Su Yuxin pulled out a Guqin.
Guqin a plucked seven-stringed zither. Only few people knew how to play Guqin. It was really ancient music instrument. People mostly played Guzheng rather than Guqin as Guqin was way harder to play.
Most people would say Guzheng has more string compared to Guqin so it should be more easier to play. But it's wrong, to play Guqin you have to be one with the Guqin with a high music talent and artistic level. A true Guqin player can bring their audience into an artistic mood even an artistic world. Guqin is an instrument that's very hard to completely control.
All people knew about it. Some people who were thinking maybe Su Yuxin really had talent gave up their thoughts after seeing her instrument.
Xue Xian giggled and looked at Su Yuxin like she was some sort of monkey in a circus.
'Su Yuxin , Su Yuxin you really do enjoy digging your own grave. Well it's good you understand your place by humiliating yourself. I won't need to dirty my hands for a slut like you.'
Xue Xian opened her fan and hid her face behind her fan as she looked at Su Yuxin with ridicule. Her smile was cold and full of mockery towards Su Yuxin.
Many other young misses had the same thoughts as Xue Xian.
Even the crown prince Mu Yi scoffed at her.
'Is she trying to grab my attention using an ancient musical instrument? Does she think she is prodigy that can play a Guqin? Tsk, what a fool.'
Xue Xian noticed the hatred in the crown prince Mu Yi eyes. She was happy from his reaction.
'So what if you are General Mansion young miss? You are still a trash under me, Xue Xian. How can a good-for-nothing like you be worthy of his Highness Crown Prince Mu Yi love even have an engagement with him?'
Only Huang Yue and Lady Ling Mei knew that Su Yuxin was not like everyone portrayed her as. The rumors were clearly untrue. They knew she would really shock everyone present here with her talents.
And they were exceptionally excited for her show.
Actually rumors were true but for the old Su Yuxin. No one would have ever thought that Su Yuxin was already dead and there was another soul living inside her.
A soul who thrived to be strong and above everyone. A soul who would kill anyone unhesitatingly if they were to stand on her way. A soul who was arrogant and languid.
Su Yuxin put her right hand on the strings whereas her left hand pressed on the strings.
Everyone took a deep breath and watched her attentively waiting for her to disgrace herself.

Chương 51: Leaving Everyone Awe-Struck
A refreshing tune slowly filled the imperial hall. The tune was graceful and elegant. It captured everyone heart, mind, and soul. It reminded them of a faraway land which is filled with mountains and waterfall. The animals chirping and singing in a harmony. Su Yuxin finally finished playing. Even after the music was stopped, the people inside were still in daze. They finally snapped out of it. The imperial palace court was silent. Not even a single noise could be heard. All of a sudden there was thunderous applause for Su Yuxin. The performance she performed was so amazing and the feeling that she portrayed was beyond comprehension. She outshone everyone in the imperial palace court. Even the emperor was stunned and impressed.
"Young lady, your performance was impeccable." Emperor said looking at Sun Yuxin with full of praises and compliments.
"This is just a lowly skill that I happened to learn to help entertain people," said Su Yuxin.
"You are humble, ya tou. I think your talent is in whole another level. Your tune made my whole mood refreshing. As, we are in good mood. I grant you a wish. You can ask me anything you want. I will fulfil it." Emperor said while looking at Su Yuxin scanning her.
"Your majesty, I would like to you to annul my engagement with crown prince Mu Yi."
Su Yuxin said softly.
Everyone was shocked hearing her request. Wasn't she a lovestruck fool for his highness crown prince? The lovestruck fool wants to break engagement. No one could believe their ears. It took quite a while for everyone to process what was happening inside the imperial hall.
The imperial hall was filled with dead silence, so profound that even the slightest sound, such as a pin dropping, would have been audible to everyone present inside the hall.
The emperor coughed twice snapping everyone back to their senses. He looked at Su Yuxin.
"Ya tou, why would you want to annul the engagement? Didn't you want this engagement in the first place and asked for imperial edict? Why sudden change of heart?" Emperor asked with genuine curiosity.
He knew Mu Yi wanted to annul the engagement because he thought it was disgraceful for him to marry Su Yuxin. But he did not understand why Su Yuxin wants to annul engagement when she loved him so much.
