Chương 6: Chapter five

After four days of travel, Terrance finally made it to the gates of Kakariko Village. After the brief encounter with a guardian, he had been worried about walking through the path with clif faces on either side.

However it seemed that his guard was unneeded as he did not encounter any monsters on his way through the mountains. As he made it to the end of the path, he found himself looking at a large gateway made of logs and painted a crimson color. Beyond the gate was a small village cradled by the mountains on nearly all sides.

The village had an architecture built similar to the Japanese villages he had seen photos of in his previous world.

This was Kakariko Village, the hometown of the Sheikah, one of the mysterious peoples of Hyrule. Looking around, Terrance was slightly surprised by the fact he hadn't met any guards at the gate. In a situation like this he would have expected people to be checking him in and making sure he wasn't leading a horde of monsters towards the village.

It wasn't until he focused more on his Magic Sense that her understood. He wasn't passing through the path undetected, there were people on the tops of the rocky outcrops observing him, just outside of his Magic sense's casual observation.

Despite this, Terrance was still hesitant to step foot into the village. Would they attack him if he stepped into the village without permission? Would he be able to communicate with them?

The prospect of making contact with people for the first time in this new world was making Terrance nervous, what if he accidentally offended them by using the wrong word? The Sheikah were not people he wanted to be on the bad side of, he it their magic or their tech, they could be good allies or formidable does. With his task being fixing the world which likely meant helping wipe out Calamity Ganon, and possibly permanently ending Ganondorf, he was already going to have to fight the Yiga, and he did not want to have two ninja clans hunting him down.

Pondering this he continued to stand at the gate waiting for someone to say it was ok to enter.

After a few more minutes one of the Sheikah that had been standing on the cliffs overseeing him used some hand signs and disappeared in a cloud of magical smoke, the same smoke appeared in front of Terrance and cleared to show a young woman in her early to mid twenties. She was wearing an outfit that looked like a cross between the stealth suit that link could purchase in the game and the kimono that the other residents of Kakariko Village wore. A straw had covered the majority of her white hair and dark grey eyes. On her forehead was a red symbol, one commonly referred to as the Eye of Truth, or otherwise known as "the Sheikah symbol."

"Welcome adventurer,.what brings you to our humble village?" She asked.

'Great Sage, what should I say? I don't think that they will take it well if it told them the truth.'

'Notice: the delay between the question asked and the host's answer has already gone past the point of being suspicious. At this point, host should claim to have faulty memory after an incident on the road, after following the one of the paths you found yourself here.'

"Ah, miss, I was following the paths here after being ambushed on the road. Got swarmed by a group of Bokoblins you see and my group had to split up. Unfortunately it wasn't just the Bokoblins that were after us but also one of those metal machines attacked too. I should have some of the do dads it left behind after I crushed it with a boulder. Ah here we go."

Terrance pretended to dig through a bag on his waist as he pulled an ancient spring from his gate, the small portal hidden inside of his bag. Showing the woman the spring she showed a shocked expression that overtook her previous skeptical one when he said he had crushed a guardian with a boulder.

"I see, please wait here, I'll go inform the village chief of your arrival and come back to guide you. At the minimum we will offer you shelter for the evening and assist you in resupplying before you head off again."

With another puff of smoke, the lady disappeared.

After a few minutes another puff of smoke accompanied her reappearance.

"We can offer you a place to stay for the night, however Lady Impa would like to see you as soon as possible." Said the woman.

"I see thank you for your consideration, if you would lead the way I would be more than happy to meet your village chief." Replied Terrance.

[Impa POV]

It has been 20 years since the great calamity. Hylians had been scattered into various isolated villages and were now trying to survive the constant bombardment of the monsters controlled by Calamity Ganon.

The warrior who welded the sword of evil's bane had fallen and the princess had sacrificed herself to seal Gannon in Hyrule Castle.

I wished every day that I could have taken her place, however no matter how many regrets I had, I had the duty to oversee the Sheikah tribe. After Gannon had corrupted our technology, many of the other races of Hyrule turned their ire towards us, and who could blame them, each of the Hyrylian races had presented their champions to help defeat the calamity. All we Sheikah did was supply tools that were soon used against us.

The Zora, while extremely angry and stricken with grief from the fall of their champions, were still reasonable enough to let our people out of their domain with a simple exile. It was a similar case with the Gorons and the Rito people, with so many enemies facing us, there simply wasn't any reason to start conflicts where it wasn't needed. Unfortunately, the Garudo tribe were much less forgiving. Their chief had been the champion selected to pilot the divine beast we had constructed, the one who had stepped up in her death, fueled by rage had ordered the execution of any Sheikah found within their domain. Thankfully many of our people were able to escape, but a few unfortunate souls were caught and put to death.

Now we Sheikah live in exile once more. In all honesty, it was something we expected to happen sooner or later. Despite the merits our people have had in serving the land of Hyrule against the forces of evil, for some reason we have always faced exile or near extinction. And yet, most of us continue to work to help the world be it in the forefront or in the shadows.

I wonder who this mysterious traveler my daughter came in to report on. After our exile by most of the other races, other people avoided coming here, weary that we may turn our blades towards fellow children of the Goddess Hylia. A foolish notion even if it had some foundation behind it.

Though it brings me shame to admit it, there is a subsection if my people who had turned their blades to the world, tired of the constant discrimination we faced over the slightest screw ups or the paranoia people felt towards us. The frustration had built into anger and eventually into a slow burning hatred for the world who despite doing their best to protect it had turned its back to and scorned them.

However those of us who still identifed as Sheikah, continue to follow the code passed down by our ancestors and only raise our weapons to defend ourselves, and only as a last resort.

Still it is strange that this individual would have been able to survive in his own this far from any other village. With the monsters swarming around and our corrupted technology attacking anyone it comes across, this means he has skills either in combat or stealth that are much higher than your average adventurer. He could be a useful ally or a formidable enemy, I must observe him to figure out his true intentions.

Sorry for the shorter chapter, wanted the interaction between Terrance and Impa to have its own chapter dedicated to it. And yes, the Sheikah lady that Terrance met is Impa's daughter, Impa.

In this fanfic, the leader of the Sheikah is from a line of descendents traced back to the Impa who served the royal family long ago (during Ocarina of Time). The firstborn of each generation of this family, regardless of gender is given the name Impa; and yes I know what that means for Paya in BotW.
