IMMORTALITY IS A CURSE I SOWN
"On the contrary, my Malevolent will protect us indefinitely", I replied to him.
"I don't understand, we couldn't hurt the undead. Your Malevolent, strong as they may be, couldn't be stronger than us", Chash told me and asked.
"That you are mistaken my friend. My Malevolent do not have to wound or kill these undead. They just need to protect us while we think of something", I replied to him.
"Wouldn't your Malevolent be hurt by the undead eventually?" Cassandra asked me.
By this time the undead in the stream had passed through Sara's protective tornado and started wrestling with my Malevolent. My Malevolent suffered great harm while fighting against the undead but to our shock and surprise, their bodies recovered almost immediately, just like the undead.
So, the battle became a stalemate between the undead and my Malevolent.
"Damn, your Malevolent are receiving the same healing benefit as the undead", Sara told us her observation.
Something in this cavern stream was healing both the undead and my Malevolent.
"What is happening here?" Meera asked.
"It's the water. The water is healing both the undead and my Malevolent at the same time", I answered them.
"Now what are we going to do? We are stuck in this stream with the undead surrounding us?" Ratatouille asked us.
"There is only one way to defeat the damn undead, disconnect them from the healing magic of the water. That is the only way", Sara told us suddenly with a solution.
"That is easier said than done. We don't even know what magic is healing the undead", Chash asked.
"It's the water", I told them again.
"So, we need to get rid of the water in the stream. How the hell do we do that?" Ratatouille asked me.
"There is a way to take away the water", Meera told us suddenly.
"What way?" Cassandra asked her.
"The Sword of Malevolence. It can capture all the water in this stream", Meera told us.
"It will also destroy all the undead at the same time", I replied to her but was reluctant to use the magic of the Dark Angel.
"I can understand your reluctance to use the Sword of Malevolence because it belongs to the Dark Angel, but we are short of options now", Ratatouille told me.
Every time that I summon the Sword of Malevolence on behalf of the Dark Angel, it would consume all the magic in its path and the magic would go into the resurrection of the Dark Angel.
"There is something else that you can use", Sara told me suddenly.
"What is it?" I asked her impatiently.
"The trash that you took from the Warlock of Delirium, the Dark Vortex. It is augmented into your body isn't it and is not a part of the Dark Angel", she told me.
When I recovered the Dark Vortex from the Warlock of Delirium, the Dark Vortex was embedded into my left palm and wasn't taken completely by the Dark Angel.
"You are right. The Dark Vortex is a part of my body now just like my skin and heart. It doesn't belong to the Dark Angel souls unlike the Sword of Malevolence which is a weapon of the soul", I said to them.
Suddenly, a whirling vortex appeared beneath us under the stream. The water in the stream was quickly scooped into the vortex and disappeared inside.
"Dark Vortex of the Dark Angel"
"It is working", Cassandra told us excitedly.
Soon, the stream under the Sacred Grove was gone, absorbed into my Dark Vortex before I returned it into my left palm.
"Knights Laceration of Order"
My Malevolent Knights quickly conjured their powerful slashes at the undead before them. The undead, without the healing magic of the stream, were soon destroyed by the magic.
"Are we good now?" Ratatouille asked us.
"The undead are really dead now", Chash replied to him.
"What is that ahead of us?" Cassandra asked as she pointed to the other end of the now emptied stream.
"We should go there to check. It could be the source of the healing water", I told them.
We walked toward the other end of the stream as water slowly returned to the stream, flowing out from the other end.
Soon we reached the other end of the stream.
We were not alone here though. There was somebody else here waiting for us.
-----
Milky white veins sprawled across the half-dried stream at the end of the cavern, weaving over the massive form of a strange, unknown creature.
The veins pulsed with an eerie glow, covering a grotesque body from which enormous tentacles extended, stretching up to the cavern's ceiling.
Surrounded by skeletal remains of thousands who have departed, at the center of this monstrosity, a distorted face could be seen, staring out from within the tangled mess with a crown of bone on his head.
As we cautiously approached, the tentacles suddenly lashed out, faster than we could react. In an instant, we were ensnared, helplessly trapped within the grip of the creature's unyielding appendages.
The creature started to sing.
"In the depths of a hollow throne, I sit.
A crown of bones, where no voices flit.
Immortality, is a curse I sown,
Eternal life, yet I am all alone."
------
"Who the hell are you, why did you capture us?" Chash screamed toward the monster that we encountered and who caught us with its tentacles.
"My name is Mamane, Eternal master of this tomb", the creature replied to us.
"Mamane, that is the name of the founding king of Trogdol. He disappeared after he founded the kingdom and left it to his descendants", Sara told us the story about Mamane.
Mamane was the guardian of this ancient Trogdol tomb under the Sacred Grove and also its ancestor.
"Why have you disturbed me?" Mamane asked us.
We were lost for words when Sara gave me a rare blink. "Scam him", she told me in a psychic way.
I thought for a moment about how to deal with the ancestor of the Trogdol kingdom.
"We are explorers who came with the instruction of the new king of Trogdol, Kolgane", I told the ancestor.
"Kolgane? Never heard of him", Mamane replied to me.
