Suhasini stood stunned. In that instant, the tender moments of last night flooded back to her. She felt a hard knot beneath her breastbone as she concentrated on breathing, trying not to fidget even thought her heart began to beat faster and her eyes filled with tears. She glanced at Nihaal, she could sense the weight of his presence. His deep black eyes looked like an abyss, his mouth which was capable of so much passion, so much heat was set in a solemn line. Suhasini slowly shifted her gaze to Anita but all she could see was a blur silhouette – her tears blinded her vision and she ran upstairs. Nihaal looked pained, he stretched his hand after Suhasini, ‘Suhasini, wait…please’, he said, but Suhasini was gone.

Suhasini stood by the window staring out at the backyard where the shadows of eucalyptus trees loomed like ghosts. ‘Suhasini’, Nihaal said softly as he stood at the door.
