Chương 20: Blonde

This chapter has been edited on August 7, 2019.

The plan was: Lucas was to look for Brent, Gina was to warn the citizens, and Diana was to find the royal family.

Finding them was pretty easy, it seemed. When she found them, they were in front of a shack on the side of the castle with Jack and the Furray pack.

As she lead her horse closer to the bunch, she heard Alpha Daniel's yelling.

"You animals!" he shrieked at them.

Daniel, Zaizen, and about ten other men that Diana didn't recognize were half-shifted into their wolf forms and half human, seemingly ready to fight the royal couple and Jack. They had tails and gnarly looking sideburns, with large teeth and glowing yellow eyes.

"Listen, Daniel, your boy tried to kill my brother," William Charming explained rather loudly, "You're lucky we haven't executed him like we did his mother."

"My boy has not shifted once in his life. He hardly even knows who is mother is," Daniel shook his head, "If you lock my son up, you're going to have to lock the entire pack up. And let me tell you, Charming, we don't plan on being taken in quietly. This is only a tenth of my pack."

William shook his head, "This is ridiculous, Daniel, he terrorized the castle!"

"Princess Diana," Jack said, alerting everyone of her presence. Everyone turned to her and an awkward silence filled the air.

She hopped off her horse and cleared her throat harshly, "Um, hi, is this a bad time?"

"Are you here to warn us about the giant?" Cinderella asked, "Because we're already aware," she said with a small smile, clearly uncomfortable with the tension floating around.

"No, I came here to tell you that you've made a mistake," She said, "Lucas told me to tell you that Jenine put a revealing spell into the wine we drank that evening."

"Jenine? Who's Jenine? I'll kill her," Daniel growled, Diana winced.

"My... my brother's fiancee," William said, holding his chin in thought, "So it would seem that Brent had been poisoned."

"I'm not following," Daniel raised an eyebrow.

"A revealing spell is a spell that makes a person reveal their true form," Cinderella said helpfully, "If it was cast on a drink or food, whenever that item is consumed, the person will transform. That does explain why Brent felt so sick before he shifted and why us humans wouldn't be affected. He was the only one that felt ill."

They all turned to King William then, Daniel looking triumphant. "W-well," he stammered, "We really don't have time to argue right now. One giant has already climbed down the stalk, it's only so soon before the rest of them find out it's grown here."

"What do we do?"Cinderella asked, "I've never seen a real giant before. How do we dispose of it?"

"How do we dispose of the beanstalk so more won't come in?" Diana asked.

William turned to Jack, "Well?"

The man in question sighed, "The only way I know of is the way I did when I was a boy," he explaned, "Get an axe and start hacking away,"

"How long will that take?" William asked.

"Too long," he answered.

"What if I help?" Diana chimed in, "There's gotta be more than one axe in this entire castle."

"We will as well," Cinderella said, patting her husband's arm, "We'll get the guards to help out as well."

"We'll pitch in too," Daniel said with a nod.

"No," William shook his head, "If you would let me ask this of you, I was wondering if you could help protect the people of the kingdom from the giant. By any means necessary."

Daniel raised an eyebrow, "As long as you make sure it's just one giant and you release my son from prison, you have yourself a deal," he turned around to his pack, "Zaizen, run back home and tell everyone to come along. We're having giant for dinner."

Every human cringed and Cinderella even gagged at the man's words, but the rest of the wolves just whooped and cheered in praise. Zaizen bowed and then ran towards the forest, shifted into a black wolf mid-sprint.

He turned back to the king, who held out a hand.

"I cherish my younger brother as much as you might cherish Brent. I did not mean to offend you or create any bad blood between," he said firmly, "After what happened to our mother, I know that us Charmings easily fall in love and sometimes that is our downfall. Especially at the young age Lucas is at right now, he's still very impressionable.

I really do see Brent as a good kid, but you have to understand how I felt when he turned into a bea- I mean a wolf and nearly killed my baby brother. Really, I hope you'll forgive us for doubting your son's character."

Daniel took his hand and shook it roughly with a big grin on his face, "You talk too much."

***

When Brent and Lucas had finished making out, Lucas reached into his pocket with flushed cheeks. He pulled out the glowing white orb that Grimhilde had given them.

"I'm assuming you want to know the truth about your mother now, right?" he asked.

Brent nodded, "What is that thing?"

"It's a memory. Or at least a copy of it," Lucas explained, "If you wanted someone to see your memory, there is a spell that you can use to make a copy and then extract it from your head and put it in physical form."

"And we'll see it through this little bubble?" Brent asked, "I wish I would've put my contacts in first."

Lucas snorted, "No, we have to break it and shove it into our ears. That way, we'll internalize the memory as if it were our own."

Brent looked at him as if he were crazy, "You want me to shove that in my ear? That thing that was in the ear of some two-hundred-year-old witch who hasn't showered in decades."

The prince rolled his eyes, "Do you want to see the memory or not because I definitely want to see this memory."

"Yeah yeah, okay fine," Brent grumbled.

Lucas, as if it were the easiest thing, snatched off two tiny circles off the ball as if it were jelly. He put the rest of it in his pocket, "For the court to see," he explain, and handed Brent's piece to him.

"On the count of three, okay?" He said, raising his eyebrows.

Brent cringed, "It's so cold. What if doesn't go in?"

"The moment it touches the inside of your ear, it'll snake itself in," Lucas huffed, "I'll say it again: One the count of three. Oh. Kay?" he said with a warning in his eyes.

Brent nodded but grumbled, "I hate this."

"Okay," Lucas smiled, "One... Two... Three!"
