Once in the clearing, Ignacio smiled and turned to Tentacool and Vulpix.
"Alright, for today, we will change training up for you, Tentacool, since you learned Brine and Rain Dance already. Now we will train your physical strength, stamina, and speed. After all, moves are good, but they all require those three things to function. So from now on, you'll be running around the area until you get tired after you should continue to practice Acid and Brine. What do you think?" Ignacio asked
"Tentacool." Tentacool nodded, agreeing before she started running as fast as she could.
"Now, Vulpix, all you need to do is the same routine, and I'll stop you when it's time to leave, and you both can rest. And don't worry about not learning the moves yet. I understand your trying your best." Ignacio comforted while patting Vulpix's head.
"Vulpix." Vulpix smiled before she started her training again as well.
"Ignacio, you seem like an experienced trainer. Your routines and time management skills are admirable for being a rookie. Most new and even some experienced trainers neglect to train their Pokémons bodies and only try to strengthen moves." Anthony praised
"Well, the body is the vessel for making moves appear, and if the bodies are weaker, the moves will either downgrade or can only be used at full power a few times. I don't want that for my team." Ignacio explained while shrugging.
"I sadly am still working on my training methods. And sometimes slacked for days to weeks, and other times I trained my Pokémon properly." Anthony replied
"It'll get better if you wish it to, don't worry. Besides, it would be best if you had great motivation to do so as well. When you were on your Pokémon journey, did you truly wish for it? Or did you have another dream you were suppressing?" Ignacio questioned
"I suppressed my desire to become a Pokémon professor until recently. So now my main concern isn't to train my Pokémon, but to learn and understand them." Anthony responded
"I see, good. It's great to know your dream." Ignacio stated
"The wisdom you are showing seems far beyond your age Ignacio, perhaps even mine. You are mysterious, Ignacio. Your training methods are amazing. Your other skills don't fall behind. I wonder if you have a special talent for training Pokémon." Anthony pondered
"Heh, I'm not that special. Just know, and use it to the best of my ability. Have you ever heard the term, knowledge is power?" Ignacio asked
"I have not. However, I'm curious if we can have a Pokémon battle when we reach Cerulean City." Anthony questioned
"Sure we can. However, I'm curious how do you become a Pokémon professor? I've met two, but I never asked about how they got there." Ignacio stated
"Well, it's long and complicated. You need lots of knowledge about Pokémon and will need achievements under your belt as well. At least, that's all I know. And I will attend a conference in Cerulean while you battle the gym leader there." Anthony explained
"Alright, thank you for telling me. Are you sure you don't want to train your Pokémon more?" Ignacio asked while raising a brow
"No need. We've been traveling for over a decade and still couldn't become a Pokémon champion. Hence I'm letting my Pokémon relax for their hard work. I won't ask them to train anymore. They deserve this rest." Anthony stated while smiling.
"Alright, I'll not ask why you didn't win then." Ignacio responded, not wanting to bring up Anthony's possible bad memories.
Afterward, the schedule continued, and Tentacool and Vulpix fell to the ground, exhausted after an hour.
"Tentacool..." Tentacool stated before rolling over weakly, completely out of breath.
"Vulp, Vulpix." Vulpix stated, weakly resting on the ground.
Despite their conditions, they tried to do more than Ignacio asked and continued to try to move. Tentacool is extremely afraid of not being able to protect Ignacio from death. And Vulpix wants to learn her moves as soon as possible.
"Vulpix, Tentacool, you need to combine rest with training, or else you'll damage yourselves. You should rest, eat, drink, and recover before you continue training." Ignacio instructed
"Tentacool."[I want to be as strong as possible, as soon as possible, Ignacio. I want to protect you better.] Tentacool stated, shaking her head before getting up and walking once more and forcefully beginning to run again.
"Vulpix."[I want to learn the moves and make you proud. I don't want to sit out during battles. I want you to depend on me.] Vulpix replied before getting up and beginning to run as well forcefully.
"Ignacio, I'm not sure why they are so adamant about continuing to train. Most Pokémon aren't like this." Anthony stated as his eyes widened.
"Tentacool, Vulpix, please rest. It's dangerous to continue training without rest!" Ignacio yelled, hoping they'd stop.
However, his words went through one of their ears and out the other. Neither Pokémon heard him and were lost in their minds, obsessed with their goals, for different reasons.
Ignacio sighed and began massaging his temples, wondering how he'll deal with this. He didn't want to see his Pokémon injured, but he couldn't force them to stop.
"What should I do, Anthony? I can't just force them to stop. That will cause conflict." Ignacio asked while thinking about how he could solve the situation.
"Just let them until they tire completely. Perhaps they aren't as tired as you think? Tell me, why do you think they are tired? They may have increased their endurance since the beginning." Anthony explained.
"Well, because I timed the training always, they don't get hurt." Ignacio thought forgetting Tentacool could heal passively.
Tentacool continued to run until she dropped again before getting back up, and soon after, she fell again, resulting in her looking up at the sky and trying to absorb it to sustain herself and give her energy. However, this time she channeled it carefully and felt her energy reserves refilling.
"Tentacool!" Tentacool yelled as she ran with newfound Vigor and smiled longer, having any bars to her training when the sun was out.
"Tentacool?! You did it!" Ignacio yelled in shock, realizing she had found out how to absorb sunlight, not just for sustenance but for energy recovery as well.
"Ignacio, can I research your Tentacool and study them? Their ability to continue getting back up, seemingly alright, will make a great research topic." Anthony asked.
"I...I'm afraid I can't. You see, this puts a target on my back. I'm weak and new, and I don't want team rocket to snatch my Pokémon." Ignacio shook his head, knowing he didn't have plot armor.
"I see that's indeed a good point. However, maybe in the future, it'll be alright?" Anthony questioned
Vulpix collapsed again and passed out.
"Perhaps. Vulpix return!" Ignacio yelled, grabbing and pulling out her Pokéball.
Vulpix didn't resist and entered.
"I feel sorry for Vulpix. They still have moves to learn." Anthony stated
"Well, I'm not going to force her to learn them at a quicker pace. I'm not heartless to my Pokémon." Ignacio replied before sighing as he saw Tentacool continue to train like crazy. However, every time she ran out of energy, she absorbed more sunlight and refilled her energy.
As this occurred, the whole day passed, and once night arrived, Tentacool could no longer absorb sunlight. Hence she fell to the ground and entered a coma. And during this time, Vulpix saw Tentacools monstrous new ability and felt like Tentacool was now her rival.
"We should go to sleep. In the morning, we can continue." Anthony suggested
"Alright, then." Ignacio stated
Afterward, the group got ready and went into their separate tents, and went to sleep.
