The dungeon. A colossal tower in the wastelands. The tower suddenly appeared one day, not far from where the first heroes were summoned to fight against the dark lord, none knows why, and none has conquered it. Thousand have lost their lives trying to climb it, and one thing is certain, it's the perfect trap.
"The deeper you get, the more you will despise it and the more it will lure you to its insides".
Raven once heard those words in a drunk talk during a cold night surrounding a campfire in happier days, at the moment she thought it was just a bunch of nonsense and only an idiot would willingly come to a place such as the dungeon. She always considered it a cold tower, with boring empty rooms, or something like walking an endless abandoned mine, but reality hits hard.
<<You have entered the dungeon>>
A voice resonated in her mind.
<<A group has been detected>>
<<Raven lvl 1, Ito Aoto lvl 1>>
<<Welcome>>
"Raven what is this!?" She heard Ito's voice as soon as both crossed the doorway of the tower.
"Shut up! I don't know! Stay near!"
As soon as they entered the voice came to an end and they were surrounded by an empty white. Then they heard the voice again.
<<Scenario selected, The marsh of the wonders>>
And with that, Raven felt it instantly, her feet were both deep in mud, as they recovered their sight they were in the middle of a fetid swamp, it had the smell of stagnant water, mud, and rotten plants, a disgusting place. Behind them there was a rift, like a crack in the thin air... that must be the exit.
"What is this smell?" Raven complained as she covered her nose.
"It ain't so bad" Said Ito taking his sword out.
The cat girl looked at him with disgust. In her mind, she believed that he hailed from a swamp himself. But the thoughts vanished soon, as she surveyed the area around them. It was a place of rotten things. This took her by surprise, though. When she investigated with people who had gone inside the cursed tower, they told her they arrived at a forest, and one once told him it was a mountain, but now all she could see was the marsh.
"Stay close" She said once again as she grabbed the dagger hanging in her belt.
As they moved together, they advanced towards a small rocky island that seemed to be a high point in the swamp. For him, it looked like a walk in the park, but her sharp instincts warned her that this was not a safe place. Then she heard them... advancing slowly towards them from the marshes, rising from the water.
"What is that?" She said with disgust.
"Aaa..aaaa...aaahhh..."
The faint voice, a whimper of suffering, and the chirps of someone that was drowned... the rotten carcass raised from its watery grave and was advancing towards them. It's hard to even confirm it once was human, it's skin was light blue, and had no eyes, also it stank, like really bad.
"A zombie?" Ito said looking at the creature.
[Marsh Zombie lvl 1]
"Disgusting!" Said Raven taking some steps back.
Ito like a real gentleman took this chance to shine, as he raised his sword and ran towards the enemy intercepting it with a dull swing of his sword.
"Wait idiot!" She said.
But the damage was done. The enemy was really weak, it had no reflexes, and its attack swing was way too slow to even be considered a threat, probably a villager with a wooden mace could beat it to a pulp... but...
The sword of Ito cut the zombie in half, his bones were too rotten to even pose any resistance to the sword of the summoned hero, spilling its entrails into the water.
<<The party has defeated a Marsh Zombie>>
<<Experience has been distributed>>
"Easy" He said with a smirk.
<<The disgusting odor has spread, the bowels of the dead are summoning the dead to this area>>
'Crap' Raven thought turning back to the portal where they just entered, but it was too late.
<<As a welcome gift the number of monsters it's higher than usual>>
And so the dead began to rise from the water, one after another, and not just zombies.
[Marsh Zombie lvl1]
[Marsh Zombie lvl1]
[Marsh Zombie lvl1]
[Marsh Zombie lvl1]
[Marsh Zombie lvl1]
[Marsh Zombie lvl1]
[Waterlog Skeleton lvl1]
[Waterlog Skeleton lvl1]
[Undead Hound lvl1]
One after another they began to rise from their resting places.
<<The abnormal amount of luck stat in the party is being taken into consideration...>>
<<A sorrowful wind start to blow from within the marsh>>
In total around six zombies, some of them even had their bowels hanging from their bodies, extra saucy for the lucky party. The hound looked like a black dog, kinda muscular but didn't had a head, and the skeletons were entangled in weed, but had some armor pieces on them and weapon.
"What do we do now?" Ito said in a panic but only got slapped in the back of the head in return.
"To arms idiot!" Raven responded irritated as she took a battle stance.
Very nice, it was a lovely first try in the dungeon, two idiots fell into an obvious trap.
...
...
The dog hound produced a disgusting sound, and some liquid began to spread from his cut neck, maybe it would have been a howl, and the zombies began to charge at a quick pace at them. Raven was about to give an instruction but the hound jumped and as she moved to the side to evade it hit Ito in his back throwing him to the mud.
"Come at me mutt!"
Sadly for both of them, things won't be so easy. As she was ready to engage with the Hound the skeletons began to run towards her. With a quick glance, she saw Ito getting up again as he was ready to intercept the zombies, but he didn't longer had that stupid smile on his face.
'Good' She thought 'If you are gonna die, die knowing you are a fool!'
The hound jumped towards her trying to bring her down too like it did with the incautious hero, but he received it with a kick to its side throwing it back to the water, the sensation was very disgusting, like hitting a rotten carcass, even as she felt some ribs getting broken by her kick the undead monster raised to its attacking posture again. Tho she didn't really had much time to look at the hound because she had to jump back to evade the stroke of one of the skeletons balancing it's axe against her.
<<The party has defeated a Marsh Zombie>>
<<Experience has been distributed>>
She parried one of the strikes of the axe with her dagger and rolled on the mud to evade the swing from a mace that was being wielded by the other skeleton, it was her first time facing undead monsters, but it wasn't her first time facing the thrill of dying, not like mr hero who was neurotically screaming and swinging his sword randomly producing weak cuts on the zombies around him but keeping them at bay...
"Shit I grow tired of you, just die" She screamed as the dog jumped again at her grabbing it with both of her hands as she used it as a shield against the mace, the impact produced the sound of shattering bones and the hound was no more.
<<The party has defeated an Undead Hound>>
<<Experience has been distributed>>
She gave a kick at the knee to one of the mace skeletons forcing it to bend as she grabbed his cervical vertebra and stabbed its head with her dagger producing a strange sound. Once she heard that skeletons were weak in the head, and it seemed true...
<<The party has defeated a Waterlog Skeleton>>
<<Experience has been distributed>>
But the stunt wasn't for free, as she stabbed it the skeleton used its last vital force to punch her hard in the gut..
"Gahh!" She gasped for air as she fell into the mud. The other skeleton charged at her—it was its chance to finish her off. She could see it raising its axe, preparing to strike now that she was down... 'As if I'd let you, idiot!' Despite the searing pain from the previous blow and still on the ground, her heart raced. She watched as the skeleton closed in, its axe poised to attack. At the last moment, she pushed off the ground, springing up with unexpected agility. Her body crashed into the skeleton, slamming it hard and knocking its attack off course as she regained control of the fight, she used this sudden momentum to stab the side of its head...
<<The party has defeated a Waterlog Skeleton>>
<<Experience has been distributed>>
And she fell to her knees, all covered in mud gasping for air, as she watched the asshole that put them into this problem finishing the last zombie too. She didn't even noticed the notifications of the dungeon in her head because she was too focused fending off the attacks.
"Raven! We won!" He said with surprise, he was sweating and his hands were trembling, he had a nasty bruise on the cheek, it seemed like he got punched in the face at some moment during the fight.
<<The gore in the water is doing wonders, the undead are being drawn towards you...>>
""Shit! Let's get out of here!"" Both screamed at the same time, but the portal was nowhere to be seen.
<<The sorrowful wind transport a lament for her fallen comrades>>
A piercing scream blew with a spectral green screen in their direction, both covered their ears but it was near, they could feel it.
<The Mud Remorse (rare) lvl 1>
A rare monster as a welcome gift due the their high luck value.
Hmm I didn't explain them earlier but so that they don't become a deus ex machina, this is a little clarification about Raven's skills:
Masquerade lvl 1
Allows Raven to change her appearance for two minutes, it would also change her voice, size, odor, but not sex or race, after the two minutes the effect comes undone.
*Emergency Illusion (Passive)
If Raven gets into a critical state, her internal magic will produce a clone of herself that will confuse the enemy, it can only happen once a day. The clone has no physical form, if it's attacked it disappears. Can't be used willingly.
*Fire Butterfly Swarm lvl 1
(This is what she used at the introduction) Spawn a small swarm of illusory butterflies that will explode and cause minimal fire damage to the enemy.
*Footwork lvl 2
This is not a class skill, it's learned by training and dedication. It's the use of legs and feet during battle for mobility, combat, or defense.
*Daggers lvl 3
This is not a class skill, it's learned by training and dedication. It's the mastery of the use of daggers for battle.
