Chương 22: a Dangerous Unknown Future
" Just a week ago I would have been as reassured as one could be about what the future holds, but in the last few days new dangers have appeared out of the blue, things I only knew existed through myths and fairy tales; today's gargoyle, and a dragon a few days ago… " The crowd muttered at these words, unaware of the dragon's existence.
" These monsters are looking for an artifact; the dagger that's been giving us trouble lately. I'm going to look for a permanent solution, meanwhile I'm personally going to put the artifact away, but I don't know what Tomorrow will hold, the future has never been so uncertain and terrifying, but humans are not equipped or prepared for this kind of thing, which unfortunately means that the responsibility lies with all of us at the Salvatore school, I will ensure as much as possible the well-being and safety of the students, I promise you. Classes will continue as usual, but I would ask you all to be more vigilant. " Dr. Saltzman had said all of his words gravely, earnestly but with comforting confidence, the teenagers start talking to each other.
He then left the room followed by Dorian and Emma.
" Wow keep the dagger here, it's putting the whole school in danger..." Penelope said, laughing cheekily at Dr. S's choice.
" He doesn't really have a choice Peez, humans are no match for dragons. " Says Aiónia at the girl.
" Because a group of teenagers in the midst of a hormonal battle are better suited? " Said Penelope pointing to the young people in front of her, who were very worried, uncertain and even terrified for the most fragile. " It's obviously right the human aren't a match for a dragon, but as far as i know the human are not the only people outside here, the Principal can probably find a group of witches, or a powerful pack of werewolves but no, he will put all the teenagers in danger, because he has no faith in supernatural, worse he is afraid of them and he hates them, did you know that the blood that vampires drink is rabbit blood ? This school stinks of hypocrisy, i can't wait to get out..." Penelope had a disgusted voice and a contemptuous look.
Aiónia said nothing for a few seconds, Penelope knew very well that he was one of the only ones with them who really understood the disgusting side of this school.
" At least you can comfort yourself that with all the trouble that are going to come, misfortunes will probably happen to lizzie. " The boy said with an amused smile, which cracked the mask of contempt and made her smile.
" Come on, I know this picture of all those freaking teenagers amuses you as much as it disgusts you. " he said standing up and holding out his arm for her to take. Penelope laughed and took her arm over his, and they walked out of the room, " I'd be bored without you. " Penelope said with her usual sly look, but a sincere little smile on her lips. Aiónia was one of the only people she liked, she liked him the first day they saw each other, he understands her perfectly, she always has a good time with him, he is the rare one to appreciate her for just being herself.
" How are your injuries? " asked the girl, little worried but hiding it.
" It heals on its own. " smile amused the boy has the pride of the girl never clearly shows her good feelings.
" Really? " said the surprised girl.
" yeah, what astonish you? " Aiónia look at her, curious.
" I... i didn't think you had a quick recovery, I thought on the contrary you had health problems..." the girl staring with great curiosity at an empty room they were walking through, turning their heads to avoid the boy's gaze.
Aiónia has insistently understood the problem by reading her heart.

" You vomited blood. " said the girl with a litle voice still avoiding the boy's eyes.
" No need to worry about me peez. " Aiónia knew he cleverly changed the subject with this sentence.
" I don't worry about you I don't want you puking on me. " said the girl turning to him with and looking into the boy with indifference and her usual smirk, but the litle blush on her cheek was clearly visible.
" Would that be possible that under this scornful and sly mask hiding a shy girl ? No i must surely imagine..." Aiónia touching his chin with his beard while whispering, eyes up looking like thinking.
Penelope trembled for a second, she removed her arm from Aiónia's , and leave with a " Humph...".
The next day around 8 a.m. the sheriff came to visit the school about a disappearance in the nearby high school. Dr. Saltzman gathered us all in the big room he explained to us that he suspects a new monster to be at the origin of the two missing girl, he asked us to register as volunteers to go investigate at Mystic Falls High School. Lizzie stood up and made a speech about how she didn't have Dana in her heart but she was going to put aside her grudge and was going to rescue her because that's what heroes do.
"AHH please finish me off." Said Penelope sit next to Aiónia who gave an amused giggle. Aiónia then stood up and said: "I am volunteer..." he then turned to the girl next to him before saying "And Penelope too...", the girl raised an eyebrow as if to tell him 'really? '. Dr. Saltzman said "Okay.", and wrote our two names on the sheet. Kaleb MG and Hope also volunteered.
