Chương 5: Life and Death
Jeia : In the lobby
I did not find anything on the book that refers to my rune. I found some runes like mine that can heal others but their healing has limitations and side effects.
I might need to look for other sources of informations.
The only one closest to mine is the Rune of Healing but this rune can only heal people.
Mine can bring a dead plant back to life.
I sat up and returned the book from its place,
'It's time to go home father is probably worried about me.'
I gave the librarian a glare before I walked out of the library.
"Ey kid try on using nurturing other runes using the one you have." I heard the librarian after I got out.
Wait he knows my rune?
After the words sunk I immediately ran back inside the library, but when I got there the librarian was nowhere to be found.
I looked around but I can't find him. ' Where did he go? '
I stopped looking for him and ran to my house and prepared my equipments. His words was still in my mind.
I will go outside and find my own rune.
You can't buy runes as they disappear after dropping off a beast in minutes. The only choice you have is to assimilate or don't.
The rune that I want has the highest chance of dropping from the Iron Bulls. This rune is harder to acquire as these bulls live in groups, I need to prepare a lot of things.

Earth : Above the city
I am The Guardian of the Earth, I have been looking for my child for quite awhile now. She managed slip out of my territory unnoticed. I did now know she had the ability to do that.
I finally found her after a long time of searching but she was already turned into a rune. She is inside the Novas' body, I wanted to immediately extract her out but the Nova has a mark of the Lazy One.
The Lazy One is someone who even Samak is afraid to anger. He is quite strong, I have the suspicion that he's the one who made us.
*Teren didn't introduce himself to them as their creator only as a being equal to them*
Just like us he existed before the Novas and probably this planet itself.
I saw him at the library just relaxing. He's been doing this for 50 years.
The Lazy One doesn't have jobs like us, the Guardians who restore and protect this planet and Samak who revolves around it every day. I don't know what he does, sometimes he just disappears for thousands of years.
'Should I just kill her secretly?'
"Hey Earth don't be a fool!" Sea shouted in my mind.
"Yeah dude you should just kill her, I'm sure that lazy won't notice." Sky temptingly said.
"Shut up you two, I think I'll just create a new one I don't wanna take a risk and offend The One."
But then a chance was presented to me.
This girl is prepairing to venture out and hunt some beasts for its Rune.
This is the best time to retrieve that Rune.
She's going to hunt the metallic bulls. I will intentionally let one out and bait her and just as she is about to attack it I will strengten the bull enough to kill her.

I know what Earth was planning for Jeia, I won't interfere since this is his business, I hope Jeia would survive this.

Jeia : Back in the city
I packed all the things I needed for the hunt. Now all I've got to do is to go out of the city without being noticed and I know a path just for that.
I went to the back of our mansion and searched a little bit. I was looking for the escape path my dad has built for us. It was an underground path that leads outside the city.
'There it is.' I opened the hatch and carefully went down.
After thirty minutes of walking I finally made it out of the tunnel. The tunnel's exit was hidden inside a hollow a tree. A tree big enough to fit two or three people inside. I rest for a bit and continued my journey.
I followed the map I have and walked to the place where the bulls are usually seen. It was almost night time when I found an herd of metallic bulls.
There are nine of them, three are fullblown adults, the four are young adults while the remaining two are calfs. The calfs have the size of a carriage, while the young adult and adult has twice the size.
The only difference of a young adult and an adult one is the muscle mass, adult bulls are far bulkier than the young adults.
My plan is quite simple. First I need to prepare the trap, then lure one in and then kill it as fast as I can. The trap I'm using is pretty expensive, this is made by someone with a rune specialized in trapping it's called Paralyzing Vine. Made especially for Metallic Bulls, it can pierce the bulls' skin and inject the paralyzing poison.
The hard part of this plan was luring one in my trap, but that is not an issue anymore since there are newborn calfs and they are easy to lure.
I waited until the middle of the night. When all the bulls were asleep, I made my move. I wore the goggles for night vision and opened my bag.
'I can do this!' I said to myself. I took the four rubber balls I have in the bag and readied myself.
I positioned myself behind a tree and threw a rubber ball at the sleeping calf trying to wake it up and get its attention.
' F*** I missed.' I inhaled a mouthful of air and readied myself. I threw another ball as hard as I can and hoped the best.
' I missed again. '
I only have two tries left, I can't mess this up. I can't use normal rocks because that would wake them all up. They have metallic skin and if hit by a rock thrown hard, it would make enough noise to wake the hardest sleeper you know up.
I closed my eyes and relaxed for a minute.
' This is it. ' I threw again and watched as the ball glides in the air. I closed my eyes and waited. Then I heard a sound.
I hit the bull, it was now looking in my direction. I tried to get its attention. The bull was slowly moving, unsure of what it is seeing. When it was near enough I then ran to the next position I prepared and started doing the same thing.
The bull was slowly and slowly following me in the direction of my trap.
If this was an adult bull this type of style wouldn't work, it would either ignore me or just charge straight. Thankfully this was a calf, a curious calf.
When the calf was near the vine trap, I revealed myself with a dagger in hand. The calf was shocked for a second but that was replaced with anger. All beasts hate the nova race.
The calf made its stance and charged at me with no hesitation. It got faster and faster.
My body is soaked in sweat and nervousness as the bull got closer and closer. When it was about to reach me the charging bull crashed. Face first in the dirt. It tried to stand but it can't.
Vines were creeping around its body slowly. It struggled. It tried to call for help but its mouth was already being bound by the vines. The bull was scared and tried to move as much as possible but it wasn't enough.
The struggle grew quiet and finally the bull stopped moving.
' I did it!! ' I almost shouted in excitement.
I walked to the unconscious bull and found a good position to stab the bull in the neck.
" I'm sorry little guy but I need to do this. " I spoke. Trying to comfort myself that this is part of life.
I raised the dagger and with a closed eyes stabbed the bull in the neck. I expected to hear the sound of flesh being pierced but the sound that came out was only the sound of metal hitting metal.
' Impossible this dagger can even pierce the skin of an adult iron bull let alone a calf. ' I thought of reasons why this happened.
" Was I scammed? No that would be impossible the vine trap worked well and they came from the same source. He wouldn't dare to scam the daughter of the city lord. "
I opened my eyes and saw the bull steadily rising up. The vines around it was snapped like nothing. The bull looked strange, it has red eyes and its muscle are wiggling like worms.
' Sh** this wasn't recorded in any of the books I read, is this a new mutation? '. I thought as I ran as fast as my legs can offer.
I ran to the biggest tree I could find and climbed up. The bull was free now, it looked at me for a moment then ran the opposite the direction.
I sighed in relief.
" What was that skill? Maybe they could only use it in da- "
My muttering was cut by a thumping sound that's slowly getting louder. The bull was charging straight at the tree I was currently on. With each step of the bull my mind was filled with thoughts of ways I can escape this situation... but I got none.
' I'm gonna die. ' That was all I could think of as the bull hit the tree. The lower trunk of the tree exploded due to the sheer force and the tree came crashing down.
I managed to move around and not get crushed between the falling tree and the ground.
When the tree hit the ground, I blacked out. The last thing I saw was a green light and the bull charging again with me as the target.
