Chapter 230: Hope
After Viola left, Vivi had a chance to scan the island with her enhanced observation haki.
The only auras she had memorized so far were Doflamingo, Trevol, and Viola, but it wasn't hard to guess who the other officers of the Doflamingo's crew were, based on the intensity of their auras.
Most of them were in the palace, while two strong signals were located west of her position.
'If only I had a map to know what the heck is west of here.'
Haki only allows her to 'see' living beings, not structures so it was like seeing thousands of small lights floating around an empty void.
There are some strange auras far to the north, very separated from the rest. She could take a guess and say those had to be the dwarves known as the Tontatas.
Vivi then opened her eyes and looked at the food that Viola had left on the table.
She wasn't hungry and had no need for food, she could survive with only water at this point.
'I'm like a plant.' She chuckled at the thought.
The only reason for her to eat was just pleasure. But after tasting Sanji cooking for this long, it would be difficult to find food that satisfied her palate.
She then looked at the books but there was nothing there that could be helpful for her…or interesting.
She was never very interested in reading classical books and only found some amusement in online novels or manga.
'Let's hope someone invents the internet in this world too…I wonder how long that would take.'
Vivi thought for a while about how to use her time wisely and an idea came to her. Something she has been wanting to work further since her adventure at Impel Down…awakening.
She did not have much information on how to awaken a devil fruit. Just that you need to first master your devil fruit power.
Considering that she had already archived a pseudo awakening, her mastery should be…at least, good enough.
'But now what?...'
Her gaze moved to the glass of water placed on the food tray.
'I could use that…'
Her awakening allows her to control water other than the one from her body.
So the first step should be to gain control over some external water, even a small amount will be enough for a first step.
"Okay, let's do this!"

The door opened and Viola came inside while carrying a tray with coffee and some sweets.
" I got you something for breakfast…." She then noticed the full tray she left yesterday still on the table.
"You haven't touched your food." She gazed at the bed where Vivi was sitting cross-legged with her eyes closed.
"What are you doing?" Viola asked.
Vivi opened her eyes and looked at the unmoving glass of water with disappointment.
"I'm not hungry, just leave the water." She said.
Viola noticed the sour mood of Vivi and assumed she was depressed by her situation.
"I know this is not an ideal situation. But is only temporary, you will be back with your friends soon enough."
'This is frustrating…why is not working?... I know I'm missing something.' Vivi's eyes were focused on the glass of water.
She then looked at the chains.
The seastone didn't block her abilities completely but it did reduce its potency.
She could absorb the seastone into her body and nullify its properties but if she did that, the cuffs would break apart.
'No…there is no need. Besides, I'm just trying to move a glass of water, I don't need my full power for that. There has to be another reason.'
"Vivi?" Viola called with concern.
Vivi looked at her and noticed this.
"Oh, sorry about that. I'm fine, you don't have to worry about me. Besides, you have your own problems, don't you?"
Her expression faltered for a second before recovering her usual calm demeanor.
"I don't know what you mean."
Vivi could feel sincere sympathy for this girl even if she had only known her for less than two days.
Her situation was somewhat similar to the original Vivi, at least on the surface.
If you look closer, it was actually more similar to Nami's past.
She had her island taken over by a madman and then was forced to fein loyalty to said madman in order to protect whatever family she had left alive.
At least Nami was given hope to regain her island by collecting enough money. It was false hope but it was still better than nothing, which is was Viola was given.
"You will get your kingdom back soon enough. Doflamingo has his days counted." Vivi spoke calmly.
"And who would such a thing? Your Captain?. I admit, I have read about the Strawhats and their many achievements. It is very impressive…but, is best if you don't antagonize Doflamingo any further. You don't know how dangerous he is." Viola warned her.
"I see your point. From your perspective he must seem invincible. Someone very important to me was once in a similar situation and said the same kind of things. But let me tell you something. I won't try to convince you with words, just wait for a bit."
Viola looked at Vivi's confident expression and could not help by have her hopes grow, even if it was just a tiny bit.
'Could the Strawhats defeat Doflamingo?.' She seriously doubted anyone could accomplish it at this point.
