Chapter 132: Imrah and the Devil Tree
"The daughter?...not that you mentioned it. She looked a bit creepy…" Vivi recalled her expression during the war.
"So, those golems were not enough to defeat the Lunarians and humans fighting together." She said in the end.
"The humans were no match for my war golems and I did not find a single Lunarian, other than the little bitch. But what I did find was something more terrifying."
"What was it?" Vivi leaned forward on her chair.
"Right at the core of their city…I found a God Tree."
"They managed to create one? But how? You guys did not give them the magical formula?" Asked Vivi.
"I don't know how they accomplished it. Maybe they managed to deduce something by analyzing the God Fruit they stole. And this God Tree was a lot different than the one we created. It also explained the lack of Lunarians…"
Vivi looked surprised at the implication.
"Are you saying that this Imrah used the other Lunarians, including her own mother as a sacrifice to create this tree?"
"It would make more sense if you had met her in person. She viewed all humans as an inferior race. She would not have lowered herself to use them as a sacrifice for her perfect God Tree. Using the other Lunarians makes more sense. I just don't know if the sacrifices were voluntary or if she forced them. But, whatever the case, she became the last Lunarian."
"What about that guy that works for Kaidou? he is a lunarian too, right?. There were also others. The government was using them for experiments" Asked Vivi.
"Those are probably just imitations, created by that Vegapunk doctor" Concluded Oren.
"The last true Lunarian is that little bitch."
"Okay, let's go back to that battle. You couldn't just have lost because of a tree, right?"
"Imrah was the only reason we lost. She had not only consumed the stolen God Fruit but had also consumed a fruit from her own tree…"
"That tree also gave fruits?" Asked Vivi.
"Yes…you are very familiar with those fruits already." Oren looked directly at Vivi as the realization came to her.
"Devil fruits! That's the tree where devil fruits come from?!" Vivi shouted loudly.
"Are you trying to make me deaf?!. Stop shouting!" Oren shouted.
"And yes. But as I said, this tree was a lot different from ours. It is able to give out many fruits instead of just one every 200 years and the powers were also different."
"So, this lunarian princess had consumed both the God Fruit and a Devil Fruit. And then beat you and your golems…what kind of devil fruit did she get?." Vivi asked.
Oren smiled but did not say anything for a few seconds.
"I will tell you more about her in the future. You are nowhere near ready to fight her. You can't even beat my lovely pets." She chuckled.
"Who said that I want to fight that Lunarian Goddess, or whatever she is now?. I'm only planning on following Luffy and others on their adventures."
"Sure, you can do that…for a while. But, eventually, she will find out that you have consumed the last God Fruit in existence and she will consider you a treat. You will know no peace for as long as she lives."
Vivi pondered about those words.
'Is that why Kuma warned me to not use the powers of that fruit in front of an admiral?. Because they will inform their superiors and then, the lunarian girl will know…wait, that reminds me!'.
"How come, Kuma knows about you?" She asked.
"Of course he does. Bartholomew is my last descendant" claimed Oren.
"Your descendant?!. But that would mean that you went to meet with some humans..."
"Yes, why is that so strange? A couple of centuries after the war, I traveled to a few nearby islands to buy some supplies I needed. I meet a handsome young man…and you can imagine the rest. I could not stay with my children since I had much to do in my lab, but I kept an eye on them with the insect drones. Bartholomew is my last descendant and probably the end of my bloodline since he is so focused in that mission of his that he has no time to settle down and have a few children..."
"I cannot imagine Kuma doing that either…what about you tell me now how you ended up in my world and bring me here?"
Oren looked pensive.
"Mmmm, that all started after the end of my failed attack on the Lunarians, 500 years ago.
I came back to this island, with my body and mind broken…I felt that it was all hopeless and was ready to end it all and blow up the entire island…but, when I was making my way to my old lab, I found a ray of hope"
"Oh?!. What was it?" Vivi looked intrigued.
"I found a new God Fruit, hanging from a low branch, right next to the metal hatch. It was like Shaddai did not want me to miss it…."
"Did you eat it then? Is that how you recovered?"
Oren shook her head.
"I did not…I knew that my body was too deteriorated already and was only held together by a strand of the magic I used centuries back. Not even The God Fruit would have been able to save me at that point. And I had a strong feeling that this fruit was not for me. In fact, my job was to find its user. And that person will be the one that puts an end to all of this conflict"
"How could you be so sure?" Wondered Vivi.
"That is how the God Tree, Shaddai communicates. He can't speak words as we do, but he can send ideas or feelings directly to your mind. And I understood the message very clearly."
"Oh, that's what he did to me too!" Exclaimed Vivi.
Oren nodded.
"After taking the fruit, the entire tree dried up completely and I thought that I had just witnessed the old God's death and was tasked with his last wish... It turns out that he had kept a spark of life so he could speak with his chosen one, one last time"
She looked at Vivi as she said that.
