Chương 8: Meeting Roger
When Viktor first set sight on the Roger pirates, he couldn't help himself and activated his observation haki. He wanted to feel for himself the gap between him and them. However, the combatants on the Roger pirates sensed his probe and readied themselves for battle.
It was then that Viktor could feel firsthand the immense gap between them. He was so shocked that he fell down to the ground, pale white, and his body shaking.
" Oh my god, Viktor, what happened? " Raven and Professor Jones asked at the same time.
Viktor then muttered, " They're monsters, absolute monsters. I'd heard stories about their immense strength that can sunder the montains and even destroy islands, but I'd always hoped those were lies. "
Even though Viktor knew that there were peoole that were unbelievably stronger than he was, subconsciously, he was proud of his strength and title as one of the monster twins. However, meeting the Roger pirates shattered any notion of pride he had.
He then said in despair, " Can I really reach that level of power. Even with my devil fruit ability, the gap is immeasurable. "
While he wallowed in misery, Viktor thought about his previous life. He was a failure and died in obscurity. In this world, the gap between people was far wider than his previous life. Even with an advantage like his devil fruit, reaching the top in this life was even harder. How could he possibly expect to achieve his dreams?
Viktor's depression then turned into anger, " I refuse to accept this! I've been given a second chance and I'm not going to waste it. I'm going to chase my dreams, even if I die. I don't want anymore regrets."
Then, with a crazed expression on his face, Viktor said, " Nothing will stop me from being the strongest. I will annihilate anything that stands in my way. Despite eating a devil fruit, I will swim in the ocean, all the way to the deepest depths. Despite having no wings, I will traverse the sky, all the way to the moon itself. Even my mortal lifespan, I will transcend it. This is my path, the path of evolution. "
After he said this, something stirred in his body that matched his indomitable will. While it wasn't strong enough to manifest, outwardly, it still manifested internally. It was the embryo of Conquerors Haki!
Raven concern vanished, " Whew, he's just spouting his usual I'll be strong speech. Although, I've never seen him do it with such fervor. Seems like he had some sort of breakthrough, good for him. "
Professor Jones agreed, "Yeah, seems on par for him, but what's this about him eating a devil fruit? "
" Oh right, we never told you, Viktor found and ate a devil fruit 4 years ago. It was actually through its ability we were able to get where we are now."
" And you didn't tell me about it because ... "
" Yeah, that was Viktor's decision. Take it up with him. "
" Oh, I plan to. " Professor Jones then yelled, " Hey brat, Iron Fist of Love!"
Professor Jones's punch knocked Viktor out of his daydreams, "Hey Professor Jones, why the hell did you hit me?"
" Here's a question right back, why didn't you tell me you ate a devil fruit? "
It was at this moment that Roger and his crew approached. Roger said, " Hey Professor Jones, long time no see, how you been? By the way, who's the kid? He sure is interesting, learning observation haki at his age."
"Uh, you mean this brat. He's the kid of some friends of mine, so I look after him on occasion. It's the same with this little girl here, Raven. "
" Hey, I'm still here, are you guys just going to ignore me. " Viktor complained.
Raven looked at Viktor with a smug look on her fave at how he was being ignored.However, this smug disappeared when they began to ignore her too.
" Yep, pretty much. Turns out your still just a brat. Anyway, so Roger, what do you have for me? "
" Oh, we found some sort of indestructible stone that had some strange text on it. We made a rubbing of it because we couldn't transfer the actual stone. "
" Hmm, that's fine. I just need the rubbing. "
Viktor interrupted Professor Jones and Roger's conversation, "Uh, hello, did you guys forget about me? "
" Hey brat, the adults are talking, in fact, why don't you have some fun with Roger's brats."
Roger laughed, " Ha ha ha ha ha ha, Hey, Shanks and Buggy get over here. I got a play date for you."
After hearing this, the entirety of the Roger pirates laughed, except for Buggy and Shanks. Even Barret cracked a smile. Of course, Shanks, Buggy, and Viktor weren't to thrilled about this and were beet red with embarrassment.
Viktor said indignantly, " Hey, don't ignore me. I'm Viktor and I ate the Data Data fruit, making me a data human. Through my op devil fruit, I'll have access to Unlimited Power!! "
Professor Jones was unperturbed at Viktor's declaration as he does it a lot, "Oh, so that's what devil fruit power you got. Anyway, let's go Roger, I want to see what you got for me. "
Roger and Professor Jones went back to the Oro Jackson and the rest of the crew did what pirates do best, have a banquet.
At the Oro Jackson, Professor Jones was inspecting the rubbing Roger brought back and it was from a ponaglyph. Professor Jones was thrilled to finally have a copy of the ancient text of a ponaglyph.
O'Hara scholars were currently trying to study the void century that was recorded in the ponaglyphs, but they were stuck on the text itself. They still haven't managed to completely decipher the ancient text because of the lack of examples.
With this new rubbing, O'Hara might finally be able to decipher the ancient text. Unfortunately, it would take a long time for this to happen, so Professor Jones couldn't decipher it quickly like Roger wanted. But Professor Jones heard of someone who might be able to help Roger.
"Sorry, Roger, I can't decipher this text, but I might know someone who can. Through my research, I've come across the Kozuki Clan from Wano. It's said that their the ones who carved the ancient text into the ponaglyphs."
" Alright, thanks for letting me know. By the way, that kid is pretty interesting. "
" Yeah, he is. Although, I've just found out he's been lying to me for years and he's actually eaten a devil fruit. Why did he hide it from me? "
" He seems like a pretty smart kid, he mightve had a good reason for doing so."
" Your right, let me ask him right now."
While Roger and Professor Jones were discussing things on the Oro Jackson, Viktor confronted Buggy and Shanks. Or as their better known, the future Yonkos Buggy D Clown and Red Haired Shanks.
Viktor had an arrogant expression on his face while he confronted Buggy and Shanks. " Hmph, you're the trainee crew of the Roger pirates, the up-and-coming next generation. You don't look like much to me. I could take you guys out easily. "
Despite his arrogant expression, Viktor's thoughts were not anything of the sort. In fact, he was totally fanboying.
' Oh my god, its the goat himself, Buggy D Clown and Red Haired Shanks. Buggy is the owner of the unique conquerer's luck. Using the power of memes on his side, he was able to achieve the status of yonko without even showcasing any of his strength. '
While Shanks to this day is still a mysterious character with the limits to his power still unknown. His feats include the following: ending the War of the Best at Marinford,one- taping Eustass Captain Kid post-Wani, and using wifi haki to paralyze admiral Ryokugyu and cause him to flee in fear.
However, it's unknown if one-tapping Eustass Captain Kidd can be considered a feat since he's known by One Piece fans as Useless Captain Midd. Also, with the events of the Reverie Arc, there are rumors that Shanks is actually a rat that ate the rat rat fruit.
