Chương 1: Chapter 1: New World

"Where the heck am I?"

Josh opened his eyes, feeling his body swaying with the waves. Placing a hand on his forehead, he pushed himself up.

As he stood, Josh began to believe he was dreaming, despite the slight headache throbbing in his skull.

"What in the…"

Before him, there was nothing but endless blue water stretching out in all directions. Josh, who had been partying last night, found this impossible to believe. After all, if his friends had decided to prank him, they wouldn't have been able to get him to the sea this quickly.

Feeling a bit hungry, Josh looked around. But to his dismay, there was nothing on the small boat except a few water buckets and a bottle. Unconsciously, he stepped forward and gazed into the water.

"Something's strange."

The reflection in the water, distorted by the waves, didn't make sense to him.

The face staring back at him wasn't his own. It was that of a teenager with neck-length, spiky brown hair and blue eyes. Josh estimated that his new height was about 180 cm.

"This… This…"

There was no doubt now.

Most people don't realize when they are dreaming. But they certainly know when they are awake. And this was real—Josh was sure of it. He stumbled back and fell onto his butt, his eyes wide with shock.

He looked at his hands, his lips twitching.

"This isn't my body!"

He was freaking out.

And who wouldn't be?

Maybe the kind of person who talks trash online, saying how a child should be a cold-blooded killer with the guts to challenge hell itself. Yeah, some idiot like that.

'I'm not that kind of person.'

Josh put his hand on his forehead, panting from the shock.

"Remember… What happened last night."

A memory flickered in Josh's mind.

He had been playing a game, a lottery game, in the casino. He'd bet some coins on the lottery machine, testing his luck.

The result had been five sevens.

However, instead of winning money or chips, he received a piece of paper.

[Congratulations. You have won the Lottery System.]

That was the message on the paper.

Josh had been about to complain to the manager when, suddenly, he found himself here.

'And that's how it happened.'

He bit his nails as he looked around.

'Okay. I'm in another place. But where the heck is the System, Lottery System, or whatever it's called?'

He had heard about system genres in web novels. They were quite popular. He had some expectations.

While Josh was trying to figure things out, a robotic voice suddenly echoed in his head.

[Lottery System, activated.]

Josh realised it appeared because he called out to the system in his mind.

In front of him, few options materialised.

One of them is about his skills and abilities.

One option was related to his skills and abilities.

Another was labeled "Draw."

And, of course, there was the famous "Status."

'Classic.'

His breathing started to calm as he scanned the options.

When he checked his status, he saw that he had a good amount of health. His agility was normal, and he could lift about 100 kg. That surprised him, considering his not-so-muscular arms.

[Draw points: 2]

A question mark appeared next to it. Josh activated it with a thought, and some information popped up.

It seemed he could use draw points to pull items from the lottery.

He could earn points by completing tasks if he activated that option, or by trading money—each one million Berries would equal one point. He could also receive two points for free each month.

The system explained that the more points he spent on a draw, the better his chances of getting rarer items.

Items would be ranked by their rarity, from Common to Legend. The ranks were Common, Average, Good, Excellent, Epic, Legend, and a mysterious rank indicated by six question marks.

Josh decided to leave that mystery for later.

The higher the rank, the lower the chance of obtaining the item. But those odds could be improved by spending more draw points and relying on luck, of course.

While he was pondering all this, Josh failed to notice his boat drifting toward a large island.

He also didn't see the enormous mountain rising before him. He unconsciously assumed it was a monster. After all, a 300-meter-long Sea Monster isn't something you overlook easily.

"Alright. What should I do?"

Josh thought to himself.

He had just left his life on Earth behind.

But that life hadn't been promising.

He had been a law student, struggling with endless studying and part-time jobs.

Before he transmigrated here, he had been an intern at a law firm, set to become a lawyer by the end of the year.

"Now, there's a new opportunity."

Standing up and adjusting his collar, Josh made up his mind, casting aside his previous life.

He couldn't go back, so it was best to look forward.

After all, he had no parents to worry about.

As someone trained to be a lawyer, he had learned from his seniors to always be ready for the next case. Now, his new case was his new life.

A system was here to assist him, which meant he had the chance to become whatever he desired.

"I will be a rich man… no, a rich king. I will sit on a throne and let women serve me, just like Teach in One Piece."

(A/N: Not sure about this reference tbh, as Teach has been shown to be mostly surrounded by some old or creepy dudes. But hey, I don't judge.)

Josh leaned back on the cold deck, imagining it as a throne. If not for the salty waves, he might have started daydreaming about the image of hot ladies around him.

But Josh didn't. He knew what was important right now, and he wasn't that desperate. He was a horny man, not a horny animal.

Standing up, he opened the system again and accessed the draw. It was time to gamble a bit.

He had two points. If he spent them both at once, he might have a better chance of getting something valuable.

If he spent one point each time, his chances would be lower, but he'd have two tries.

'Since it's the beginning, let me test my luck.'

Focusing on the screen, he pressed the draw option.

A group of pirate skulls began rolling on the screen before stopping.

One of the skulls grew larger, eclipsing the others, and it opened from the forehead.

Inside, there was something.

[+1 compass (Common)]

Josh shook his head. A compass wasn't very promising. Not without a map or navigation skills, anyway.

Still, he focused on the screen like a seasoned gambler, calmly waiting for the next result.

[+1 Body Strengthening Pill (Excellent)]

Josh's eyes lit up when he saw the rank of the second item. He clenched his fist and raised it in triumph.

The second item was of Excellent rank.

"Booyakasha!"

Now, that was progress.

He opened the system's storage. It had a limited capacity and could only store items obtained from the system.

Inside the game-like slots, two items were now stored: the compass and the pill.

He read the pill's description.

[Increases body strength by 200 kilograms.]

Josh blinked twice, then selected the pill. It vanished from the storage and appeared in his hand.

He wondered if it would really work.

He still didn't know where he was, but he was definitely hungry. So, he popped the pill into his mouth and swallowed it.

'I don't feel any different,' he thought.

His muscles didn't seem to grow, and he didn't want to test his new strength on the boat for fear of breaking it.

Just then, Josh noticed something in the distance.

"Wait, an island!"

An island with a beach and trees appeared on the horizon.

Josh felt a surge of excitement. He stood up and looked around the boat for something to propel it forward.

He found a piece of wood and used it to steer the boat toward the shore. In his excitement, he hardly noticed when the boat crashed onto the beach, propelled by the waves.

"Finally!"

He looked around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings.

Still hungry, Josh climbed the nearest tree, searching for fruit. Though it was high, he didn't mind the risk.

As he ate the strange fruits, he glanced to the side and noticed a shadowy silhouette of a city.

"Wait…" he squinted. "The architecture… It looks old-fashioned, like London's. But on an island?"

Still, a city meant food and direction.

"Wait another second!"

The architecture…

Because he had been so hungry earlier, he hadn't been thinking clearly.

But now that his brain had some sugar, he could think more clearly.

The system mentioned earning Draw Points by spending one million Berries.

Berries.

That could mean two things.

It could mean the fruit.

But it could also be the currency from one of those fantasy anime worlds.

"One Piece!"

Shocked, Josh put a hand on his forehead, realizing where he was.

Remembering all the dangers that came with this world, he sighed.

'Why didn't you transmigrate me to a less dangerous world?'

Josh suddenly felt lucky that he hadn't been swallowed by a 300-meter Sea Monster.

"What luck."

He turned to look back at the sea, and his heart nearly stopped when he saw the massive Sea Monster.

Josh had just passed by that point and somehow hadn't been eaten.

Seeing it on TV and seeing it in real life were two very different things.

Josh fell from the tree in shock. Ignoring the pain, he quickly got up and decided to get as far away from the shore as possible.

With his hands on his head, he walked away while repeating in his mind "Just don't think of anything dangerous or stupid." like a mantra, hoping to not jinx himself.
