Chương 13: sorry doesn't bring them back

One evening while Elena and Liam went on a picnic by the lake, she found herself growing increasingly curious about what lay behind his past and his sudden arrival in Kalasta.

As they sat on a dock overlooking the sparkling waters of the lake one afternoon, Elena casually brought up the topic while fishing a bug out of her drink.

"Hey," she said with a knowing smile. "You know, I've been wondering. what brought you all the way out here to Kalasta?"

Liam shifted uncomfortably beside her, his features clouding over for a moment before he replied with an edge of reluctance in his voice, "It's complicated."

Elena couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his response. Complicated?

Liam hesitated, his reluctance palpable. He took a deep breath and looked her straight in the eye, a mixture of anger and pain etched on his face.

"The mafia," he spat out the word with venom. "A fucking mafia lord from the south slaughtered my entire family."
