Chương 46: New Blood
Half a month wasn't much time, but Ryo had already prepared himself for the final exams, and there wasn't much more he could do to "improve," at least not at the academy. Ryo sat in a chair in his house, looking at the two coins with a pensive expression.
He felt that he could take the third coin, but he knew it would be as painful if not more than the second coin. However, it was something he had to do. He had been able to acquire one coin per year, basically at his current speed, so by Ryo's calculations, he still had another four years to collect them all, assuming things continued this way.
"Four more years would be good, but the difficulty of obtaining the coins is likely to increase. The first coin didn't come with any ability, but the second one did. If it continues like this, I might acquire a new ability or none at all."
He sighed. There were many possibilities in all of this, and Ryo couldn't know for sure, but he would find out soon. Getting up from the chair, the boy began to get ready to leave, eating a ninja ration bar before heading out. But not before creating a clone.
The clone looked at Ryo and said, "I'll study the seals again today. Try to stay alive while getting the coin." Ryo chuckled lightly and then left the house. He had once again returned to studying fuinjutsu in the last month, as his other skills hadn't improved much.
After a few minutes of flickering through the city, he arrived at his grandmother's house. Apparently, she wasn't home at the moment. Using a tracking pulse from the coin, Ryo easily entered the house, walking to his grandmother's room, opening the trapdoor, and descending into the basement.
There were some lit candles in the basement, but it was still dark. Ryo took a deep breath as he continued down the stairs slowly. He could already see the faint glow of the five coins on the table. As he approached, one of the coins trembled on the small altar, then fell to the side, separating from the pile of coins, leaving only four.
"Alright. I suppose you're next then." He didn't stop his approach, reaching the front of the coins and once again taking the separated coin in his hand. And yes, once again, the coin repeated the same process.
A golden streak entered his palm as blood began to flow into the coin. Along with this, Ryo prepared himself for the intense pain again, which he was sure would occur. But after a few seconds, nothing happened.
"Oh? No pain this time? Does that mean the coin doesn't have an ability then?" Ryo looked at the coin, expecting the process to subject him to excruciating pain again, but nothing happened, not even a vision.
As he began to walk out, Ryo stepped on the first stair when he felt it. He felt the place getting very hot, but it wasn't the place; it was him. His body began to heat up; his blood seemed to boil in his veins. Ryo fell on the stairs, holding his chest tightly.
Breathing heavily, he could see sweat dripping from his face, not just his face, but his whole body; it was as if he had been in a sauna for a very long time. It wasn't excruciating pain, but he couldn't breathe properly anymore.
Every time he breathed, he felt more and more heat building up and accumulating in his veins. And then Ryo closed his eyes, his chest heaving heavily as his mind drifted between places once again.
Upon opening his eyes, he could see a golden meteor, wandering through what seemed to be space, spinning aimlessly. Ryo tried to look in other directions but could only see one direction clearly; looking from where the meteor was coming, he could see a planet full of red lines, slowly exploding in a dance of flames and rocks.
"The planet from the first vision was destroyed in the end; that's what happens when you steal all the chakra, but I didn't expect the planet to explode." He was calm, even though his body was in bad shape; apparently, it was some kind of ritual that had to happen for the coin to assimilate to him. Possibly, all this was because of the blood of the being inside the coins.
He didn't know how much time had passed yet, but Ryo continued to see the golden meteor wandering through space, but something changed; his vision was drawn forward to the meteor, where a blue planet was on a collision course. And then the vision ended.
Ryo woke up still lying on the floor, breathing heavily as he tried to get up with what little strength he had left. Looking around, he could see water on the floor; of course, it wasn't water, it was sweat; his whole body was soaked in sweat.
As he managed to get up, he looked at his hand; the small cut had already closed, but the red blood crust that closed the wound was different. Ryo looked at it with a great doubt on his face, then touched the wound with his other hand. The wound opened again, and a small trickle of blood flowed from it, surprising Ryo.
"What?!" From the wound in his hand, red blood flowed, but it wasn't just red; it had a shiny yellowish tone, as if gold were mixed with his blood. The blood wasn't golden or red, and it wasn't easy to tell from a distance, but he looked at the palm of his hand very closely.
"Was the heat I felt in my veins the coin changing the composition of my blood? That doesn't make sense." While he thought about it, he opened his eyes wider, remembering what happened with the second coin. "With the second one, I felt a great pain in my spine and bones." He took the three coins in his hand.
"Are the coins changing my body?" He couldn't be sure of that, but it was one of the most likely theories after what had happened. Of course, he had to do some analyses on his body, and with his current knowledge, he could easily do something like that.
