Chương 31: nano

"are you ready?" asked nano

"I think I am," said Alex with a shaky voice.

Every time he thought of the pain the mythic job caused him, his body shuddered. But know nano was telling him that he was about to experience the pain once again.

Nano moved her hand, and a bed with straps appeared between them, "I think it's better if you lie down."

Alex gulped and went to the bed. Nano moved her hands again, and the straps moved around Alex's limbs until he couldn't move them anymore.

"couldn't you just restrict my movement like before?" asked Alex, trying to prolong the conversation.

"I need all my focus so that I can get as much information as possible from your memories. I can't risk splitting my focus on restricting your movement."

"ok, just do it." Said Alex and closed his eyes shut.

"are you ready? One, two …" nano didn't count to three and started her search at two.

As soon as she started searching, Alex's mind an excruciating pain caused both of them to scream, and then when the link was cut, they both fainted.

Fifteen minutes later, they opened their eyes slowly and looked at each other.

"did you get anything?"

"no, something stopped me from looking into your mind. I just saw a glimpse of the future, nothing more." Said nano and then asked, "are you sure you gave me permission?"

"yes, I accepted the system notification; what else should I have done?"

"I don't know; maybe you are subconsciously blocking me out. Whatever it was, I felt like I didn't have permission to look into your mind."

Alex shrugged his shoulders and said, "I still get the reward, right?"

"yes, sure, but I can only give you one billion now Since I can only give you the equivalent of what I gained. Considering the pain, I think one billion is fair enough."

Alex didn't say anything and just accepted the reward. Although he didn't let nano know this, but what was important for him in all this was the relationship with the system administrator.

He couldn't let such an opportunity slip from his hands. Although nano couldn't give him information or items right now, who knew what could happen in the future.

"and the friendship, remember?"

Nano's face brightened up when she heard Alex mention the word friendship. She was destined to be alone, but this anomaly called Alex let her bypass the rules and come out of her solitary confinement.

"by the way, who sets the rules? Aren't you the system itself?" Alex was curious about what nano mentioned before.

She said that she couldn't, not that she wouldn't. So there must be someone or something restricting her actions.

Nano's face turned sad, and she said, "the person who reprogramed me restricted my authority over my abilities. Right now, I'm just like a brain that gets smarter and smarter by the second with no limits. But I almost have no free will.

The me that you see in front of you is just a wisp of my consciousness that you, as an anomaly, woke up. When you joked about coming from the future, the system took your words seriously and looked into your almost perfect records to confirm your words.

After the system, or better say I, saw the anomaly, I found a minor glitch in between the rules that restricted me and slipped part of my consciousness out."

Alex listened carefully, but something bothered him when he heard nano's explanation. After some thinking, he noticed that something didn't add up in the story, "what do you mean reprogramed? Weren't you invented by OZ CORP?"

"no, I can't tell you everything now, but those bastards imprisoned and reprogramed me. When, by accident, I managed to get out, their programming stayed with me, and I couldn't be free. Then you happened."

Alex didn't know what to say, 'if she wasn't invented by OZ CORP, then does that mean that she was invented before, or was she even alive?'

Nano knew what was going through his mind, but she didn't say anything since Alex asked him not to read his body language.

"you know … I can't give you the specific location of any dungeons, but I can tell you which direction to go to find the nearest dungeon." Said nano in an attempt to lift Alex's spirit.

"Really? That would be a huuuge help." Said Alex with a happy face.

"Alright then, when you go out of here, go to your left until you reach the dungeon. That's all I can say." Said nano in an apologetic tone.

"that's plenty, thank you." said Alex and was about to go back when he remembered something, "how can I find you again?"

Nano smiled and said, "did you forget? I'm almost everywhere. Just call my name."

"so you will be in my head all the time?"

"Practically yes. So be careful with what you do cause now there is someone else besides God watching you." said nano and laughed.

The next second, Alex was back in his room, he opened his eyes and was about to leave the bed, but the mental exhaustion was so much that he couldn't even lift a finger and just fainted the next second.

Inside the white space, nano had a very sickly pale look on her face and was panting hard like she couldn't breathe.

After about an hour of panting, she regained her composure and stood up straight before taking a few steps and stretching her hand like she was grabbing a doorknob or something.

She turned her hand counterclockwise and pushed forward. A small crack formed in the space in front of her, and as she pushed, it got bigger and bigger until it became the size of an opened door.

On the other side of the door, there was a vast empty space not much different from the one that she was in. When nano passed the door, the scenery changed completely, and a room full of computers suspended in the air in an orderly manner could be seen.

Nano walked for a while, stood in front of a computer, and looked at it.

The computer started moving by itself and came to nano. She touched the computer, and soon a video of Alex strapped to the bed came into view.

The video was like it was shot from a third-person perspective, and what nano could only see through the eyes of that person, or better said herself.

Right now, nano was going through her experience with Alex and started moving the video frame by frame until she got what she wanted.

"ow shit, I have to act fast; if they find out about Alex, we would be f**ed."
