The other man heard the resentment in her delicately charming voice and rose to his feet, terrified. "Overlord Di, Mistress Di, I…"
He was interrupted when Daniel Craig and Yellow Falcon suddenly charged at him, moving like lightning, each man clipping one of his arms and breaking his wrist bones.
"Hey! What are you doing?! Ow–" the man's pained screams were cut off when Daniel Craig grabbed his jaw and twisted it.
Lily let out a sigh of relief and shot Di Mo's attendants an admiring glance. They had understood the words she'd been tracing on Di Mo's back. Clearly, they were well-trained. If it weren't for them, she wasn't sure how long she'd be able to keep up the sickening doting wife act.
She stood up and went over to the fallen guide, carefully looking over all the buttons on his clothing. The on-off button was located on his wrist just as she suspected; it was a good thing she had stopped him from pressing it, otherwise who knew how much of their bodies would be left.
"What is it?" Di Mo asked, frowning as he eyed the button she retrieved from the guide's sleeve.
She rolled her eyes impatiently. "Does the Di Clan not own any high tech devices? I mean really, how you people managed to last this long is beyond me," she said in disbelief. "Don't tell me your power is just for show. And you call yourselves the rulers of the Americas and Europe… if you ask me, the people of the criminal underworlds there must be idiots."
Di Mo's face darkened. "Jun Lixin," he ground out, practically seething.
She took in his deadly facial expression and toned it down a little, pursing her lips in judgment. "I'm just telling the truth, that's all. I've only followed you for a few days and I've already nearly died three times," she complained. "Is that how you take on your role as an overlord?" As she spoke, she walked briskly towards the entrance, ready to make an escape from the overlord's wrath.
And of course, he reached out with one of his powerful hands and grabbed her arm. Except this time, she startled him by twisting out of his grasp and clasping her hand in his instead. "Come on already. There's something worse than a bomb in this place. You can stay and waste time if you want, but I'm not planning on staying with you." With that, she began pulling him out the door.
Di Mo looked back and Daniel Craig and Yellow Falcon with his eyebrows raised and quirked his head, indicating that they should follow.
"What is it?" Daniel Craig demanded as they walked. "We swept through every inch of that place and didn't find any trace of explosives or anything that could harm us."
Back outside in the sea of flowers, Lily mentally calculated that they were in a safe position and handed the button to Di Mo. "Crush it," she ordered, then shifted away behind him, sheltering herself in a safe place.
Di Mo did what she asked, frowning as he crushed the object between his fingers. There was a clear, albeit faint, snapping sound when it crumbled, turning into several broken pieces. The instant he destroyed the device, a shrill banging sound pierced the air and all the windows of the glass building in the sea of flowers blew outwards, shattering and scattering into the air. Everyone winced at the faint but high-pitched ringing that pulsed through the area.
Just as he was cringing uncomfortably against the noise, Di Mo suddenly felt a hand cover his right ear. He turned around to see Lily covering one of her ears with one hand and the other one on his own. "Cover them," she mouthed, the surrounding noise drowning out the sound of her voice. "Otherwise you'll go deaf." These frequency waves were no joke — they seemed small enough to counter, but were capable of tremendous damage.
Di Mo furrowed his brows tensely and narrowed his eyes at the sight of Lily covering only one of her ears since her other hand was occupied. He reached out and covered her other ear for her. She frowned impatiently. Was this guy dense? He wouldn't drop the high and mighty act even then, when there was a high-tech device literally about to murder him. Would it kill him to sacrifice a bit of dignity for the sake of self-preservation?
She huffed in frustration and grabbed his other hand, yanking it to her other ear, then placed both of her hands on either side of his head to cover his ears. If the powerful overlord became deaf, he would be a joke in the world of crime. Nearby, Daniel Craig and Yellow Falcon had taken note and followed suit, blocking out their own ears as well.
When the noise finally seemed to dissipate, Lily took her hands from Di Mo's ears and poked her head out from her hiding place, surveying their surroundings. The glass building and long disappeared, leaving nothing but dust in its place. "That technology is insane," she commented, impressed. "I wish I knew how to build something like it."
Daniel Craig and Yellow Falcon had gone over to inspect the remains of the building, where they found the unfortunate guide that had been left behind. His body was in a horrific state: he had died from blood loss, the red liquid seeping out of every possible opening in his body. They shared a glance and Yellow Falcon said, "Seems like that woman is our lucky charm."
Daniel Craig turned to look at Di Mo and Lily, who had their heads bent together and were fervently discussing something. "She's the boss's lucky charm," he corrected.
After the two men gave their reports to Di Mo, he inspected Lily from head to toe and suddenly reached out to touch her earring. "What is this?" He asked.
The entire building had been searched inside out for nefarious devices; the outside had been guarded by their own clan members. Di Mo was confident enough in his men that he doubted they were ignorant enough to be bad at their jobs. If they weren't able to find the device, yet Lily was, she definitely had the help of some high tech device of her own, and there was nothing of note on her except her earrings.
