"So…. um…" Ruby started awkwardly, clearing her throat as she stood with Penny in one of Beacon's gardens- her favorite one, actually, with all of the blooming roses that somehow stayed flowering all year round. She was pretty sure one of the groundskeepers had a Semblance for that, actually. "I wanted to… talk to you about something I've been meaning to ask. Ever since… I mean…"
She paused, toeing the ground awkwardly as they stood there alone, thanking every god that existed that there wasn't anyone nearby that could overhear them and that everyone else was enjoying the festival on the other side of campus. "I mean, ever since I woke up from my whole… coma thing. I've been… thinking… of something that I've never really thought of before. I mean…"
"Ruby, you seem a bit distressed. Is this… something bad? Are we- no… your emotions are… flustered and embarrassed… is this something that is not generally talked about in polite society?" Penny asked as Ruby trailed off, gently holding her girlfriend's hands and staring into her eyes- green meeting silver as she held her face close to her wishing star's and looked at her with boundless curiosity.
"N-no I mean… yes… it's just… it's hard to say because I'm all really confused and bungled up about it? I mean…" Ruby took a deep breath and sighed, slowly leading Penny to a nearby table and sitting down with Penny across from her. "Okay… let me try this again. So… Okay. So, you know that… My biology isn't really standard, right? And… that it's… my psychology influences a lot, and so does my soul. It's why I look the way I do right now, I think. I could… still look younger, but right now my soul says I'm seventeen so I'm older now and- okay, not really the point but… Sex. I've been thinking about sex lately. And just… I mean, Yang and Blake and Weiss have sex, Cinder and Emerald and Neo have sex, Yatsuhashi and Mercury have sex, Coco and Velvet have sex, so many people in this school have sex that I'm pretty sure I've learned to tune out the background noise of arousal almost entirely at this point and I just…"
She paused, shook her head, and sighed again, still holding onto Penny's hands and squeezing them gently. "I think I accidentally woke up my hormones while I was in the murder dream maze soul searching spirit journey thing that I was going through and now I'm pretty sure I have an actual arousal response now. And uh… I just wanted to ask… if… um… you'd be… okay with that… at any point? It's okay if you say no, I don't really think it's an arousal response like most people, but like… y'know. I think if I took off my clothes now I'm pretty sure I'd have actual bits."
Penny blinked. "Please do not take off your clothing in public to check if your body is anatomically accurate. While it would be amusing if you still had as much sexual definition as my body, I do not think the professors would enjoy either of us racking up a public indecency charge."
"... Well, I mean, not here!" Ruby spluttered, only for Penny to giggle and squeeze her hands comfortingly, raising one hand so she could press a kiss to Ruby's knuckles like she was a fairytale princess.
"I know, my love. That was a joke," Penny chuckled, a warm, sunny smile rising on her face as she pressed another gentle kiss to Ruby's hand. Unbidden, their Auras mixed together as they touched, a warm, summer-y breeze surrounding them as rose petals began to fill the air little by little. "I love you, though."
"Aww, I love you too, Penny! But still uh… yeah… that was the question. The… uh… the sex thing," Ruby cleared her throat awkwardly, tail wagging gently behind her as her cloak fluttered around slowly and her ears twitched in Penny's direction. "Would you, like… y'know? Ever wanna try?"
"Well… I cannot say I've ever had that urge myself," Penny started, pursing her lips as she continued to play with Ruby's hands- entwining her fingers with Ruby's and marveling at the way they fit together so perfectly. She smiled, then held Ruby's hand to her cheek and nuzzled against it with a happy little sigh of contentment. "I am not saying that I'm against it, though. Just that I do not know if I have those urges at all. Certainly, if we had the right tools to modify my body, I could indeed change out my current configuration for one with sexual apparatuses, though whether or not I would actively pursue sex is… something I do not think would be in my purview. There is only one person I currently trust enough for such a thing, and that is you, Ruby."
"I… I feel the same way," Ruby murmured back, eyes lighting up slightly as she ran her fingers along the soft, surprisingly lifelike material of Penny's cheek and gave her a smile just as soft and loving in return. "I could go a lifetime without it, really, even if I do kinda want to at least try it once or twice. But as long as we're together, the only one I'd ever think about doing that with is you. But… it's not important, y'know? This is more important. These…"
She paused, standing up slightly so she could lean across the tiny table and plant a gentle kiss on Penny's forehead before sitting back down again. "These little moments. Where it's just us and our love. And… how close we can be. That's what's important."
"Aww… I don't know what to say, Ruby… that was so sweet," Penny blushed, bright green specks lighting up across her entire face as she scooted her chair around the table entirely so she could bump shoulders with Ruby, both of them giggling softly and filling the air with more rose petals that swirled about them in a rainbow of colors and lights. "These moments are important, but I… I think I do have an answer… about the ah… sex thing."
"Mm?" Ruby purred, slowly leaving her seat as she all but oozed into Penny's lap, completely ignoring the bounds of human physiology as she sat there in her customary position, pressing herself against Penny completely and straddling her lap as she started nuzzling into the crook of her amazing, awesome, powerful, beautiful, friend shaped girlfriend's neck with a happy little merp of pure contentment at just being close to the one she loved the most in the world.
Sorry to everyone else in the family, she thought to herself, but Penny was the specialest person in her life and they knew it.
"I believe that, if you were to ask, and were I capable, I would agree at least once or twice, and that I would gladly experience any amount of new things with you without question. You are the one I trust the most in this world, wishing star. You light up my life and bring me more happiness than anyone else ever has, and I would give you the world if you just asked," Penny answered, whispering into Ruby's ear with a soft, deeply caring tone as her emotions resonated into her Aura and the two of them just basked in mutual understanding- not saying any words out loud as their souls pressed and melded together and let them speak without speaking, knowing exactly how the other felt and what they wanted to say without even needing to say it.
"I'd give you the world too, firefly. Always and forever," Ruby murmured right back, nipping Penny's skin gently and reveling in the faint marks she left with a happy little purr. "However it happens, and however we experience our lives together- it'll always be with you. Every step of the way, no matter what."
"Every step of the way, no matter what," Penny agreed, hugging Ruby tight and rocking side to side ever so gently as the two girls simply sat there and basked in the other's presence, rose petals continuing to swirl in the air as they kissed softly, delicately, and their hands roamed over each other's bodies in a need to feel each other. "I will always be with you."
They sat there for a long moment in comfortable, contented silence- warm despite the presence of snow on the ground, wrapped up in Ruby's cloak as they continued to nuzzle and giggle and kiss and hug each other without pause.
And then, after many minutes of kisses and soft words of adoration, Ruby pulled back with a little grin, bonking her forehead against Penny's with a quiet giggle.
"Who would have thought that this kinda conversation would turn into something like this, huh?" she asked, smiling brightly as she nuzzled against Penny, both of them continuing to just enjoy being together as Ruby fell back into Penny's embrace and buried her face into the crook of Penny's neck as though she belonged there.
In Penny's opinion, she did belong there. It was her favorite spot, after all.
"I think anyone who knows us would have guessed that," Penny mentioned idly, patting Ruby's back and smiling as she closed her eyes. "Shall we nap together, dearest? We have quite a lot of time before we're expected anywhere."
"Mm! A nap sounds great right now!"
