happily, I took out plates and set everything in order on the dining table. Finally, I wasn't eating alone. I sat there, waiting for her, my heart thumping with excitement.
Seeing her coming back, I smiled. I think... I just... lost... my... Heart to this female.
"You're back. Let's eat before I faint from hunger," I said, exaggerating my empty stomach's growl.
"Thank you," she said, sitting opposite me. Her voice was soft but carried an unexpected weight.
"For what?" I asked, noting the confusion in her eyes.
"Well, I am a total stranger to you, but you actually let me stay with you," Kyra replied, smiling faintly. I sensed a hidden sadness in her eyes.
"You're not a stranger," I chuckled, leaning towards her. Her pinkish lips captivated me. "Not to mention, you're going to be my mate," I added in a low voice.
Her hazel eyes widened. "What do you mean by mate with you... don't tell me you're joking because this joke wasn't funny, Lucas."
"Why would I joke, Kyra? I like you, and I want to be your mate," I said, starting to feel anxious. "Everyone already thinks we're going to be mates. You can't back off."
"Lucas, I can't—" Kyra looked at me with a mix of emotions. I reached out and held her hands as she shifted uncomfortably in her chair.
I loosened my grip, feeling a sudden ache in my chest. "At least tell me why... Or do you need some time to adjust? Or am I not handsome enough for you? Or do you think I'm too stupid to be your mate? Because I'm not stupid... I am very handsome..." I rambled, desperate to understand. I couldn't let her go. I loved her already... Is it bad? Not only did I lose my heart to her, but also a kidney... How should I let her go... Impossible...
"No... no," she started shivering.
"Kyra," I said softly.
She didn't respond.
"Kyra, listen to me," I repeated. She lowered her head.
I leaned in again, placing my hands on her cheeks and turning her head towards me.
"At least tell me why. If you need time, I'll give it to you, but without knowing me, you're rejecting me. So, my love, tell me what's bothering you," I urged, looking deep into her eyes.
"I- I- actually..." she hesitated.
"Tell me," I said gently, maintaining eye contact.
"Because..." Her hazel eyes turned red as she looked at me, her nose reddened.
I tried to comfort her by patting her head. "Take deep breaths! And tell me," I spoke gently.
"BECAUSE I AM NOT FROM THIS WORLD," she burst into tears.
